koi Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 Indeed. In fact most music from West Africa, especially Senegal and Mali. As well as Tinariwen, Babba Maal and Ali Farka Toure, I can also recommend Ali's lad Vieux Farka Toure, Toumani Diabate, Amadou and Mariam, Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni Ba, Rokia Traore, Angelique Kidjo etc. etc. For those for whom this is a list of unknowns, if you like rock and blues music then you should check some of them out - this is the area that the blues really came from - it was taken to North America by the slaves. As a starter I would recommend either Amadou and Mariam or Bassekou Kouyate, which are both very accessible to the western ear. Some names I'm aware of but not listened too. Will get on with it!

I thought Mr Scabies had a big fall out with Vanian and Sensible. Have they made up? Despite the bands custard pie in the face persona, Rat was actually a top quality drummer.

ada2020 Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 Hmmmm....... I couldnt put them in any order, but: Appetite For Destruction - Guns n Roses - Absolute rock classic, best debut album of all time for me, hands down. By The Way - Red Hot Chili Peppers - Not considered their best, but came out at a very difficult time for me persoanally and every song on there I can relate to that time. Music is meant to provoke and move you after all isnt? Nevermind - Nirvana - No need to say anything really is there..... Jar Of Flies - Alice in Chains - Absolutely fantastic EP, emotive and moving, mesmerising and technically awesome. Tiny Music- Stone Temple Pilots - Not considered their best ever, but for me its just brilliant, reminds me of summer time and all that sort of stuff. Someone mentioned Dig Your Own Hole by Chemical Bro's, another fave of mine, fantastic album from start to finish, might make my top five depending on mood and alcohol consumption
Hughesy Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 All depends on your choice of music. Im into hip-hop/ rap and mainly listen to Eminem, Dre, Drake & Lil Wayne.
colin Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 The whole of Curtain Call from The Black Album? Excellent. Enjoy! From memory, it was called "The Black Album" because they reckoned it was best listened to whilst under the influence of some fine Pakistani black. I could be wrong. Even if I'm wrong, I'll go with the suggestion.

cletus Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Don`t think i have a definite top 5 (it changes all the time) but my personal favourite album of all time has gotta be.... AC/DC....Back In Black it`s over 30yrs old & has never aged a day. Perfect sound. Perfect production & perfect rock. In my view, it`s never been bettered. You still hear these songs used in tv ads & programs every day. Brian Johnson isn`t everybodys cup of tea (after the late great Bon Scott) but his vocals on 'Back In Black' are damned near perfect. Other great rock acts music can sound aged or dated to a certain period (80s glam being the worst culprits!!) but Back In Black will still sound fresh & new in another 30yrs time. I`d also have to put a Metallica album in there, but cannot decide over the excellently brutal 'Master of Puppets' or the Black album.
