[Archived] Which songs do you associate with Rovers?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering about music that other supporters associate with Rovers, either related to occasions, or lyrically? Either a long-term thing, or related to recent events?

The obvious two for me are the final countdown, and tina turner 'simply the best'. But there are more recent ones like example - kickstarts because they played it before every home match last year etc. I also associate a few depressing ones with Rovers at the moment for some reason!!

Sure they used to play a danced up version of the braveheart theme at one point.

While were are on the point of rovers music, can someone tell them to stop playing that god awful wild rover song. It is the worst song I have ever heard and manages to depress me a little just as Im getting very excited. I would rather they walk out to barbie girl than that guff.

I'm Feeling Good

Save the best til last

both played on sky the day we won the league, use to rewind and watch it over.

Somehow that tape disapeared :(

I have the exact association with those two songs. I can still see the montage of that season happening to 'saved the best til last' in my head whenever I hear that song. that broadcast also had the classic 'final countdown' with everything that had happened previously, though if I'm not mistaken we used to walk out to that song for a couple of seasons either side of 95... good tunes.

Good thread - cheered me up a bit - here's some fo mine:

1. The Chicken Song - Spitting Image

2. (Get off your) High Horse Lady - Oasis

3. Not Listening - Papa Roach

4. That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore - The Smiths

5. Goodbye Blue Sky - Pink Floyd

6. Ignoreland - REM

7. Lies - Rolling Stones

One a serious note I love "Uprising" by Muse that they play - quite appropriate.

I always associate rovers with the Europe-final countdown sure it was about time won league we used to come out to that. Hairs on my neck still stand up hearing it.

Now with the club being run the way it is a more fitting replacement to that god awful shouty version of wild rover would be entry of the gladiators (think that’s the name of the circus music.

Mine too. That 'Save The Best Till Last' was a great ending to the days broadcast.

I obviously associate 'Glad All Over' with Rovers for the wrong reasons.

I believe Steve Kean is into 'Drive' by the Cars.

For me it's the cheesy 'Alive and kicking' from the early days of Sky TV when we had just joined the premier league. Brings back lovely warm memories of being in the pub as no-one I knew had Sky back then, so if you wanted to watch Rovers away but couldn't get there, well you had to go the pub. It's also how I managed to bag myself a husband, being in need of someone to watch a Rovers away game in the pub with back in 1996 - and the poor beggar's put up with me ever since.

Can't think of what it was called or how to describe. It started of quiet and built up to a crecendo just as players came out. It was in the style of the 'chanting' similar to what you hear on the film 'the omen' if that makes any sence? Tell me someone remembers it. I'm sure it was in the early 2000's.
