Nicko's confirmed on twitter that it isn't his story. He seems to be aware of a story that has been going around but is not clear *himself* that a deal's been signed. Surely someone can get the owners to at least clarify *this*. Hopefully it's a big enough story in it's own right to get Sky Sports etc. on it tomorrow.

If this turns out to be true, regardless of whether there is some clever reason for doing so (i.e. hush money, making it effectively cheaper to sack him etc.) it sends a horrific message.

There have been references to information being withheld in order to protect the club. I honestly think a scorched earth policy should at least be properly considered at this point. Clubs have come back from points deductions, administration and the likes before.

I remember going to Birmingham away last game of the season loosing 4-1 some seasons back and they got relegated, there fans turned on there owners and had to be escorted out by police. I think its time we cranked up the heat like that on the venky's instead of kean. I think constant verbal aggressive abuse is needed and all directed at venky's at home games. Make them really understand. Lets give them the abuse we give Kean and see if it goes really into them once there on the receiving end of it.

They're never there though!

If this is true this is nothing short of insanity. Is there a single reason for giving a hugely underperforming manager an extended contract, when he has three years on his existing one, and is unlikely to be of any employment interest to any club above the lower half of the Championship?

There has to be something extremely worrying going on behind this scenes. This cannot be explained by mismanagement of the club by Venkys alone.

Totally totally mental. And that is from a moderate fan, mildly encouraged by our improvement in recent games.

ps. Just hope this is a hoax of some sort.

pps. Can anyone give even an inkling of how this signing could be in Venkys interest? I just don't get it....

IF this is true it is one big F U to the fans. A clear statement of WE run this football club not you. I hope this is not true cos I hate to say I told you so. ( About them not bowing)

People are now not real fans unless they protested according to some people.

People are now not real fans unless they didn't protest according to some people.

I'm sick of this "real fan" crap. We are all Rovers fans, let's stop arguing.

Might as well all stick together...

as it's going to be a bumpy ride.

I would +100000 this if I could

The manager divides the fans and will continue to do so whilst he remains at the club. Venky's are now heading that way as well.

So if the news is true I guess we have to just learn to accept that we will be playing Championship football next season?

Not sure why you quoted me but anyway...

Yeah, but what has that got to do with fans not calling out other Rovers fans as not being "real fans".

Yep. Pretty much. Not me though, I'm already past the "acceptance" stage.

Right OK. IF these rumours are true and Kean has indeed signed a new contract it can only mean one of two things:

1) That Venky's have sympathised with Kean after recent protests and campaigns by supporters to get rid of him. Rather than respond as most owners would by giving in to what the vast majority of supporters want (and in the process improve their own standing) they have decided to show who is boss and that they are not going to be bullied into getting rid of their blue eyed boy. Their aim here is probably to try and bring some closure to the long running, yet fully deserved, campaign against Kean. If this is the case they certainly don't understand football or its supporters and don't realise this is only going to make things a whole lot worse.

2) A more sinister suggestion. That perhaps Kean has been given a new contract because he has information which would be extremely damaging/detrimental to Venky's reputation in the business world if released and as such he is effectively blackmailing them into keeping him at the club (I find this suggestion to be a bit far-fetched, Venky's managed to keep Allardyce and Williams quiet, they could do the same with Kean, and they are not the kind of people who would be bullied around.

The other sinister suggestion is that the power of Kean & Anderson is so great that Venky's will just agree to whatever they suggest. That if Kean wanted he could have a 20 year contract, the only reason he hasn't is because he knows full well what that would do to supporters. This stretches back to December last year and the suggestion that Allardyce was stabbed in the back by Kean, who schemed with his agent before and after the takeover to gain control of the club. All Venky's are is the public face of the club who appear on camera and reap the benefits of free advertising and publicity. The real running of the club, its transfer business and overrall activity is down to KEAN and Anderson, hence why there is no chairman at the club, just a DEPUTY chief executive. Venky's don't care what happens. They have no interest or knowledge of what to do, that's KENTARO's department, they know best.

Sorry Tom but blaming protestors for Kean's new contract (if its true) is like blaming the rape victim for dressing inappropriately.

We asked for it did we?

No, the rapist is to blame as are the clowns raping our club.

jehrover - I go for something going along with Option 2 without hesitation.

If it smells like a dodgy, smelly chicken, looks like a dodgy, smelly chicken and feels like a dodgy, smelly chicken, then it most likely is a dodgy, smelly chicken of a situation we find ourselves in.

Or hopefully

3 - a couple of clauses have been inserted making him more easily removed (it's nice to want things)

No blame attached but surely it's a possibility that the protests have actually forced Venkys to act but sadly act the wrong way. Their way of addressing them has unfortuneatley been to signal their intent to back him.

Yeah, but what has that got to do with fans not calling out other Rovers fans as not being "real fans".

Because the ineptness of the manager has completely split the fanbase. You have fans who want to try and force the owners to act and some of those feel that more people should be doing the same. Then you have those fans who are happy to plod along as is and give the manager more time, some of those feel that you should back the club no matter what. Then you have those fans who are in between and don't know what to do.

It's just a complete mess.

Or hopefully

3 - a couple of clauses have been inserted making him more easily removed (it's nice to want things)

You can't rule it out but I personally can't see that happening.

Kean is a shocking manager but I doubt he is an idiot when it comes to looking after 'no.1' Why would he accept a new deal that makes it easier to sack him and possibly results in less of a payoff?

Also if the rumours are true in regards to how he got the job in the first place then it's clear he knows what he is doing and won't fall for such a move.

Venky's - "Here Steve, why don't you sign a nice, new contract? We will pay you more cash, but we just want to stick in some clauses to make it easy to sack you and pay you a lot less. Now, this is NOTHING to do with you being 4 points from safety. So, don't even consider that part of it."

Steve - "Well, I've spoken to my agent, who is pretty much your boss as well it seems, and wor' right happy to sign the contract, with all the clauses included making it easier to sack me and not give me a big, cushy pay-off."

Well, it suppose it COULD happen.

It's not the protesters fault. It's not the non-protestors fault. There is no circumstance, not one, whereby giving the man a new deal at this juncture is an appropriate reaction to some perceived provocation or supposed silent endorsement (and it's certainly bloody silent) of his performance.

We're all Rovers fans here.

If this is true, and as yet it's been unconfirmed, then I've no doubt in my own mind that there's something very corrupt going on.

No one is that stupid unless it's on purpose.

As for whose fault it is.

It's Jerome Anderson and Venkys fault.

I didn't say it was likely just a possibility. Fact is we have no idea about the workings of his contract or any other details.

Surely the signing of a new contract isn't as important as the pay off figure in it?? If they give Kean a 5 year contract but with a minimal pay off figure then surely that's not a completely daft move? If, for example the contract he signed last year has a far bigger pay off sum in it, then it would make sense...

Plus, has he actually signed a new contract yet??

Kean isn't the right guy for the job, but I dont think its worth losing the plot over things like this until we actually know the details.

I think a poster - possibly Makey_11 hinted at something along those lines a couple of weeks ago.

It could be the protest or....

Didn't the Pune 9 highlight the level of feeling about kean and his appalling record? Weren't you also assured that it would be down to results, they must improve?

How many points have we got since you returned?

As the only fans that have spoken to the owners, perhaps you didn't do as good a job as you thought.

Or perhaps, the fact that the majority of fans didn't protest, means that they will be in favour of Kean's new contract. After all, how will the owners know what the majority think?

Or perhaps, just perhaps, Venkys really are taking the club for a ride.

This is the one for me, Thought it for quite some time now.
