[Archived] QATAR group bid for Rovers

Given neither us nor them expected Rovers to be in the relegation zone, with a good squad that can't win, watched by protesting fans and key people leaving the club. What should they do ?

  1. 1. Should Venky's stay for the long haul, or cut and run

    • Finish what they started. Follow through on their promise of Europe?

    • Accept any serious bid. Be glad their brand is now known in Europe and move on?

I don't think the brand is a lie, clearly they have used the club as a vehicle to promote their own brand with the aim of expansion in Asia and also they are going to open one of their express outlets in London and possibly Ewood (apparently).

On talking and action, they have been slow on all decisions relating to Rovers.

Venky's are clearly and irrevocably associated with a Court-branded liar (Kean) already. I am sure if you did a brand and name association exercise in the UK, then of those who answered, Venky's and liars paired together would rank extremely highly.

Given the continuing if declining inflence of British media (ask an Indian jorno which press he/she reads when they have a spare moment) in India, if the British press start attacking Venky's the way they are very likely to, then that word association will start infiltrating India.

That is what I was referring to.

Rovers' very existance is in the balance today.

Venky's have saddled us with debts, appointed wrong manager, made dubious signings and there is only worse to come, we either move forward with the Qatar bid or we could fold totally under Venkys, believe me, a threat from the PL is becoming very real under our current regime, the Qatar bid would I think, divert that threat and allow us as a club to move forward!

Kelbo - I think that your opinion is very relevant and to the point, just needs emphasising so every single fan takes note.

Sad reading the comments like " I hope its true " etc, we all know deep down it won't happen just like every other pie in the sky nonsense rumour we've been excited about.

Edit: Not saying the posters are sad I mean its genuinely sad people getting their hopes up but then have them shattered yet again.

I can't help but think that the key quote from The People is

However, sources at Ewood Park claim that not even a whacking profit would make the Rao family walk away now.

They have invested heavily in making Blackburn ‘India’s Premier League club’ and they do not want to lose face.

As much as I want this deal to go through and have these fools out of our club, I think that the real stumbling block could be the commitments that they've made to make Blackburn the team of India. There have been television commercials, the team has been out to India, there have been steps made toward an academy and the list goes on. For the owners to abandon all that, would make them look very foolish and would damage their credibility in India. Our only hope is that any offer that may come from Qatar is big enough for them to swallow their pride and be happy with a tidy profit.

The only fear I have about yet more new owners is that they will meddle with the team and have unrealistic expectations. But until a die hard, billionaire Blackburn fan comes along and truly does have the best interests of the team at heart and listens to what the fans have to say, then this will always be the fear.

won't happen I'm afraid...

It would be too amazing, the football equivalent of winning the lottery.

Can't understand why they would bother with us.

Some people do actually win the lottery !!!

As to why us, see earlier posts re PSG, Malaga etc.

Glen, Philip, Kamy and others have made it very clear that in their opinion this HAS to happen otherwise there is a very real risk, in their opinion, that we will be left with either no club or one in the very lower reaches of the FL.

Their message is stark and couldn't be any more clear.

Every single supporter has to do their bit to try and make this happen. As someone has said, there is only one shot at this.

To philipl and rover786: IT WON'T HAPPEN. Downvote me all you want, we will see what happens......mugs.

The consequences of this takeover not coming to fruition would be a disaster, not only would we not have the finincial clout but we could be docked points, Venkys could in fact be told to sling their hook by the PL and Rovers left with loads of debts which would be unsustainable!!

When this news broke, I felt nearly 12 months of negativity drain away almost in an instant.

I remember the excitement of Kenny's appointment some 20 years ago and if this comes off, it will surpass that moment as I feel our club will have been saved from the abyss.

At this time of year, our thoughts are always concentrated on Armistice Day. Football cannot be compared to the tragedies of war, however, I said to someone last night, with this potentially joyous news, I can go some way to imagining how the French felt when liberated in World War 2. That, IMO, is a measure of how horrific life has been for the Rovers' club and its supporters under Venky's & Kean.

Can't understand why they would bother with us.

Here's three reasons.

  1. Rovers are relatively cheap for a premier league club that are only one of four that have won the premier league title.
  2. If you can't buy Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham and Aston Villa - who is there left? Everton are already mooted but as stated they would be expensive.
  3. Billionaires buy football clubs as playthings to build them up. It's a challenge. Where's the challenge in spending big cash on a bigger club? Hence the reason why BRFC may be more desirable than EFC.

Rovers are actually well positioned at the moment. They have crap owners, they are cheap, they have a decent ground and very good training facilities. And they are in the Premier League.

There is another option, Qatar bloke buys 90% of the club with Venky's remaining 10% being limited to keeping their advertising hoarding at Ewood and being able to use the club's logo's and players in adverts but no say in the actual running of the football club. That way Venky's still get what they want, and Mr Qatar Prince gets to play IRL football manager.

"@mikehallitv: I've just spoken with Blackburn Rovers co-owner Venkatesh Rao. He says reports of a sale to crown prince of Qatar are nonsense. #brfc"

Also said they have no interest in selling whatsoever.

Two observations-

He has not denied a bid has been made

Wouldn't be the first time Venkatesh said X to the English media when Y turned out to be true.

What Venkatesh and Balaji say means nothing. Its what Mrs D decides.

Would love it if we got taken over I'm just saying it won't happen that's all. Christ almighty.
