[Archived] QATAR group bid for Rovers

Given neither us nor them expected Rovers to be in the relegation zone, with a good squad that can't win, watched by protesting fans and key people leaving the club. What should they do ?

627 members have voted

  1. 1. Should Venky's stay for the long haul, or cut and run

    • Finish what they started. Follow through on their promise of Europe?
      19
    • Accept any serious bid. Be glad their brand is now known in Europe and move on?

Hope yet:

reluctantnickoAlan Nixon@Brownieoak Qataris and their chums won't give up easily. Lots at stake for all concerned.

We need to get this across to Venky's loud and clearly:

BlackburnRaversUpalnite & DJ NJ @reluctantnicko @Brownieoak in a poll of 494 people 97.77% want #QATARIN and #VENKYSOUT

Even though kamy has been told by a senior qatar source, who said deal is dead. Nicko thinks different. Oh well, lets see what happens.

If Balaji won`t agree to sell, then maybe its time to put some pressure on him?

Maybe some banners at the Wigan game aimed at him in particular (nothing too insulting mind). If we can get him to realise that the fans don`t want him and his family at the club then he might change his mind.I think for this game at least we should focus the attention on the owners rather than Kean.

As they are very family orientated I don`t think they will like having their personal reputations attacked.Just a thought as I can`t think of a better way to get under their skins at the moment.

Banners have to be to the point and dramatic "Please sell because we don't like you very much, but it is nothing against you as a person, we make no assumption on your charecter, and we love Indian food by the way, and your chicken is nice" kind of loses impact.

"Begone Foul Thing" is much more effective.

Given "joke threats" are as likely to get you into trouble on a messageboard as posting slander, obviously if people wanted to post what they know they would.

Clearly no one gives a crap about joke threats, mods or otherwise, but as soon as you ask people to post stuff that's potentially defamatory everyone starts shaking in their boots.

Looking at the extent Venky's name has been ###### on on this messageboard already, you might as well go ahead and finish the job.

The only reason people would get into trouble is if they were intentionally and recklessly aiming to cause defamation to Venky's. Since they supposedly aren't and these rumours are supposedly 100% true and for the good of the Blackburn people, then there is no reason to be afraid to post them. ESPECIALLY given people spreading the rumours claim to have written evidence.

I'd suggest "Begone Fowl Thing" would be more effective, but that's all a bit passe these days.

The "nothing too insulting" was with reference to the "R" word Reb,if you know what I mean. ;)

..... and this is why I don't want to get involved. That's not really anonymous at all and plenty of paper trails (cafe receipts, cctv recordings, router logs, tumblr connection logs, browser fingerprints etc ..... very little on the net that gets deleted is really gone).

Look at anonymous and lulzsec. Bright guys that know the tech, know to use somebody else's wifi on vanilla kit via tor and proxies then just dump it somewhere like pastebin. ..... and they still have members getting caught.

Anyway, this probably isn't a discussion for this thread.

The amount of effort required to go after a source who does know what they're doing is huge. The resources spent on such a pursuit is usually proportional to it's seriousness and the size of the fish affected. With all due respect to our situation, whilst it's very important to us, LulzSec and Annonymous' activities were kind of on another level of magnitude and were attracting the attention of entities with vast resources.

A very amusing Italian who ran a security course I attended gave us a brilliant bit of advice. Always pick your Tor endpoint to be a country with someone sketchy diplomatic relations to your target. I can imagine the Pakistani government would be falling over themselves to help our friends the Venky's with their enquiries :D

I think what the hitherto in-the-know'ers have to consider is that the events of this weekend, real or perceived feel to me like a tipping point. There's a noticeable increase in 'chat' already and fans frustration which is just going to put more pressure on information that's been sat on. Doubly so if there is similar frustration within the club and/or god forbid we don't get a result on the weekend. The part of all this that collapses first under pressure might not do so in the best interests of the club and/or see the bigger picture so those that do might need to think about how they control that situation before it's out of their hands.

They should certainly be seeking specialist advice and not doing anything daft like "I'll just post it on my personal twitter account and to hell with the consequences" and it goes without saying it needs to be kept a million miles from here.

But (and I am getting back to the topic) if there is any kind of leverage held on those capable of making decisions then now really is the time to use it, privately or otherwise because if the Venky's aren't turned by an absolute shedload of cash on a silver platter and/or events a few thousand miles away then they are going to take some persuading as to what's good for them.

At least I can stop remonstrating with my girlfriend as to what I'd spend a Euromillions rollover on :/

Everyone has free speech, but it comes with responsibilities.

If I wrote a piece in your local paper that said "i've heard Gogger messes with children and steals from work" there is a fair chance that would cause you lots of difficulties and you would be well within your rights to sue me.

If I was telling the truth and had hard evidence to back it up I'd be in the clear. If I was just spouting off some rumour that I'd heard you'd win and I'd be in trouble.

but surely there is a difference between free speech and lying? everyone knows this right?

Can people please refrain from asking for / offering this info via PM. I dont know the position that the site would be in by allowing potentially libellous information to be spread using this site.

A very bad one if the information being passed around is complete nonsense.

I would refrain from any anti-venky's banners etc...

we havent had any real confirmation of this supposed bid. afterall.. we are not the only club they are interested in!

Why do that? Everyone seemed to be sick and tired of them before the takeover bid. Now for them to ruin the dreams of thousands of rovers fans just because Barry White wants to look cool in front of his mates!!(have the glamour associated with owning a premier league football club). Of course the next protest will be focussed on the numpty owners. Grow some cojonies man! Oh and change your avatar,it's vile and offensive and has put me off my dinner!!

I think wigan maybe the best place to protest. Cannot see whelan banning banners etc. Any protest may even get his support. Having commented recently about overseas owners, being an ex-rovercould be what we need.

Just to add I have received an email from Alex Burkwood this morning (customer relations officer for the FA). Very interesting what the email says and what efforts have been made

Whelan has confirmed banners will be permitted and has stated that he feels for rovers

I truly believe Dave Whelan will have no objections to Kean Out Venkys out banners

Many years ago before he got involved in Wigan Athletic + Wigan rugby - Whelan wanted to get on the board at Ewood as Rovers are his club and always will be ! but at the time he didnt have the ready cash available and Jack did at the time and the rest is history though Wigans his hometown club where no one can fault his achievement he said he'd get them to the Prem when they were languishing in the old 4th division and he did it and as propped them up there for a few years with little income and a poor fan base !

Let's hope there's life in this deal yet.

Just goes to show how desperate we are, when apart from Paul Mellieu, no-one has even considered whether the Qataris will be good for the club.

Couldn't do much worse, could they, Den?
