[Archived] QATAR group bid for Rovers

Given neither us nor them expected Rovers to be in the relegation zone, with a good squad that can't win, watched by protesting fans and key people leaving the club. What should they do ?

627 members have voted

  1. 1. Should Venky's stay for the long haul, or cut and run

    • Finish what they started. Follow through on their promise of Europe?

    • Accept any serious bid. Be glad their brand is now known in Europe and move on?

It is weird though.

If the offer were actually there, and the Qataris said "we will offer you this much for the club. Take it, or we will find some other club to buy, and make them HUGE"

Then Venky's say "no, thanks. We wanna try to make Rovers big ourselves".

Now for Venkys to achieve that, they will have to AT LEAST match the investments coming from the Qataris into whatever club they buy. Once they buy a club, the task will be even harder for Venkys.

Venkys want European football, and Champions league within 4-5 years.

Who will they have to outspend to achieve that?

1 Manchester United

2 Manchester City

3 Liverpool

4 Tottenham

5 Chelsea

6 Arsenal

7 Qatar club

--

Then, before they can even come close to those teams, we have to outspend

8 Sunderland

9 QPR

10 Aston Villa

11 Stoke

--

Even if we manage to get past numer 8-11, there will still be 7 clubs who are MASSIVELY investing to reach Champions league, and win trophies. Ultimately, by rejecting the offer from Qatar, they have put themselves in a position where they HAVE to spend very very big bucks to even have a slight chance of becoming a force to reckon with.

All the above points make sense but you are not taking into account that Venkys don't have a clue how to achieve the above. They are 3 spoilt sons and daughters of a succesful Indian business man their Daddy.

Of course they WANT Rovers to win the Champions league, along with wanting the flashiest Ferarri in India.Everything they have has been handed to them on a plate they cannot achieve jack ###### as they don't know how to.

If the Shiekh is in the USA, does that mean he is buying a USA owned club? ManU is out (tried and was unsuccesful). Arsenal is only partial ownership and appears too stable. So Aston Villa or Liverpool?

I don't know how wealthy Venkys are, but unless they have 500 million to pour into the club, I don't see them getting Champions League football anytime in the next decade or two. Too much money in the Premier League.

If I were a billionaire (1-2 billions, not multiple), I would look for a team in Greece, Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, etc., which I could buy relatively cheaply and then dominate the league with 5-10 million injected each year. That is the cost effective path to the Champions League, in my inexpert opinion.

This is excellent news.

I'm now one step closer to being able to sleep at night. Further boxes that need checked:

1. Kean sacked.

2. A competent and experienced manager appointed.

3. Publication of accounts and explanation of Rovers' debt load (both directly on the club and on Venkys London).

4. An explanation as to when Venkys cash, as opposed to Rovers borrowing and transfer fees, might be injected into the club.

5. A respected and experienced chairman appointed.

One down, five more to go.

This is what I was trying to explain to you via PM. Have faith, things will be resolved, a lot of people may have their credibility shot though. At the end of the day: common sense trumps illogical rumours.

I hope things return to normalcy sooner rather than later.

If I were a billionaire I'd think "where's the fun in that?"

He's already got clubs in Spain and France, now he wants in on the Premier League.

I am not an ITKer, I've received no PMs, so I know nowt of alleged dodgy dealings, investigations and so on, could be total bunkum but what can't be denied is the royal mess Venky's have created, what 'normalacy' are we returning to?

I know very little of the alleged dodgy dealings other than if Jerome Anderson is pulling the strings we could be on dicey ground.

What I do know, as you say, is there's a right royal mess to sort out. And people aren't happy, and not just the fans.

It is bunkum. The only mess Venky's have created is the possibility of relegation under Kean - end of story. Our focus needs to be on GETTING OUT OF THE RELEGATION ZONE not spewing hate on other HUMAN BEINGS.

You are getting on your high horse again Miker, I am not talking about investigations etc.

I am talking about no sponsor, big drop in season ticket and corporate sales, big money on agents fees, sticking with a farce of a manager, no chairman, no MD and so on, FACTS- what are they going to do about those? What is 'normalacy' under Venky management?

Oh dear. You're really not going to enjoy your first visit to Ewood Miker.

Please note the "if" and there's nothing in that post that cannot be backed up in a court of law.

What high horse? It's been impossible to post on here because anything that differed from the "I hate venkys, I hate Kean. The end." script was pounced upon by every single member that still posts on this messageboard.

We've had pages and pages of posts of hatred in the last week or so, and barely a few that are actually about FOOTBALL.

I joined the messageboard to get in touch with Rovers supporters that I would rarely see or meet where I live to talk about football and the club, hear stories and have civilised discussions. This messageboard has been a hot pot of mass hysteria for the past week or so and extremely tedious. I've spoken to some genuinely decent people on here, which I'm glad for, and in fact most people on here seem like good people who have contributed posts that I have found extremely interesting to read over the years, but it's been truly out of hand lately.

Don't take your frustrations out on me, I haven't done anything wrong. I've made appeals to people to be more balanced in their views, nothing else. Ask questions of the people that told you false allegations about the club that have kept you angry, sleepless and frustrated for so many days that have now been PROVEN to be false.

Oh dear. You're really not going to enjoy your first visit to Ewood Miker.

I am really looking forward to visiting one of the oldest and most historic grounds in England and excited to see the team for the second time. It has been one of my long held dreams.

I live in distant hope that the atmosphere at the ground will be more pleasant and appealing than what I experienced the first time I watched Rovers, which consisted of the majority of fans around me shouting abuse at a couple of Burney fans in the corner and not paying the slightest bit of attention to the game they came to see. Although this was under Sam, so I'm sure some people would like to claim that this was probably due to the 'hoofball' ;)

On the flip side, one could take this proof much as they would the "proof" of the rumours.

It's all very "he said, and she said". Even as trustworthy as Kamy is, it's not the PL that have made the statement public. Not yet anyway. Once they come out and say they are NOT investigating in no uncertain terms, THEN we can sleep easy. The conspiracy theorists could still say that, while there was no proof of the rumours, there is at the moment no proof of the PL not investigating.

If it's that clear cut, they should say it themselves, not tell someone to pass it on to everyone else.

I think any legal cases involving defamation (relating to the PL investigation rumour) would HAVE to involve a PL spokesperson to reaffirm they are not investigating. Otherwise the case for the defence could be based on "who says?".

Miker, where did you sit during the Burnley match? I was at the top of the Jack Walker stand, close to the Burnley guys. It was great fun! :)

sounds like miker is not up to speed on the intense rivalry between us and the dingles

Marty, if these false allegations have been posted as fact to purposely attack Venky's with a clear motive, then people CAN and WILL be persecuted, if lawyers are taking action as Kamy has suggested.

This has been defamation at its ugliest.

Correct. But suppose some of the rumours were true? Someone who was told by someone who was told by someone who claims to be ITK will be prosecuted. But if the lawyers pick a fight with the wrong person who DOES happen to have information, they would look very silly indeed.

The defamation case relies on people having no proof. All i'm saying is if someone DID have proof they would lose the case and most likely be counter sued. That would have massive repercussions as it would then hit the media whether the relevant parties wanted it to or not.

I don't know if anyone has definitive proof, but if they did, it would be one hell of a mess.

It was in Sydney and obviously I'm not a local, so it's not the same for me. However, I am talking about my first experience being in a Rovers crowd. I'm sure you can understand why I found it disappointing.

You're in for a rude awakening and a culture shock at Ewood. The aim of alot of fans (particularly away fans) is to taunt and abuse opposition supporters. It's actually quite enjoyable, and often very funny. You should join in.

You're following the wrong sport Miker. It's not just in English football. Football crowds chant back and forth during the game. It's part of the traditions of football. Some of it's fun, some of it is cheering on the team, and some of it can be quite offensive.

And you know what they say about men not being about to multi-task? It's all rubbish because I sat with thousands of fans, who were also men, chanting abuse when we played Burnley, the loudest crowd you can imagine and I still managed to watch the game from beginning to end. I think I may have even ate a pre-prepared snack as well.
