[Archived] Hoilett to Spurs for £9m?

I'm not sure about that. Spurs are going to be regulars in Europe if they can hold the squad together - probably Champions League next season - and he'll be understudy to both Lennon and Bale.

He'd figure a hell of a lot, it's a squad game nowadays. Spurs' main failure last year was that they didn't build a squad that could cope with the Premier League and the Champions League.

Bentley improved immensely as a player because he was playing regularly and always first pick at Rovers. You don't improve by playing half the matches or being a "squad member" or "understudy". If Hoilett wishes to fulfill his potential as a player he should stay at Rovers for a few more years.

To be fair, Bentley started off as first choice but his form wasn't good enough.

If Spurs qualify for the Champions League this season then I reckon Hoilett would easily see 30-40 games. I think he'd love playing in that Spurs team, they way they play football suits him perfectly.

Playing in the Championship wont help him reach his potential either

I'd sell him for £9m. It's patently obvious he's not going to sign a new contract and he STILL doesn't defend.

Agreed.

and judging by his recent performances he's starting to believe his own press also ;)

According to Steve Kean, Hoilett is 'desperate' to sign his new deal.

This is coming from the same man who said he was not going to sign a new deal until 'results improved'.

It is interesting - if Hoilett signs a new deal - it will be a big vote of confidence from both him (and by association) the players for Kean. The fact that Hoilett has yet to sign a new deal must surely be a source of embarrassment for Kean. To be honest - many of the players are putting in a decent shift for the manager at the moment (in terms of effort) - Hoilett isn't one of those, which considering the support and opportunities Kean has given him doesn't reflect well on Hoilett.

It is no secret that Hoilett's preferred position is an inside role operating in the hole- he doesn't see himself as an out and out winger.

So we signed more in the hole players in January and the summer window....

.. and against Wigan, Hoilett was the only wide player and was basically told by Kean to stay glued to the touchline.

I think part of the trouble with Hoilett not putting in a decent shift is that he is not being asked to play to his strengths. Plus anyone being asked to play as a winger is going to need over lapping or through running players to work the ball to and against Wigan Rovers played like statues with zero movement for any creative player to actually do anything with. So basically, Hoilett just got isolated and with nothing on the other flank from Rovers it was dead easy for Wigan to double up when he did eventually receive the ball and dispossess him.

Not to sound like i'm 9 years old or anything, but Hoilett is my favourite player. I think he's cracking... best player on the team by a mile. However, i wouldnt even be gutted if he left in January, i think i'd just be pleased for him. Imagine if you had to work for Kean every day? it would be awful. Get out while you have a chance Junior. If your ship is sinking, you gotta be chuffed for those who manage to swim to safety.

I'd love hoilet to be here for years under a new management with respectable owners but at the minute i don't care.

He is pure quality and should move on and whether its for 9 million or nothing means nothing as the money will be split between india/andersen/kean and we'll get some nobody in return.

In the past if we sold a player for big money you knew there would be money available for a replacement but now i just think its gone....fooked.

Where Hoilett prefers to play and which position he's best at isn't necessarily the same thing. I do think he can do both well, and would probably play him in a roaming role ala Pires for Arsenal if I had the choice and luxury to do so. But that means sacrificing someone else and Kean does has the hots for Dunny so that's a problem the 15 games a year that he's fit. Unfortunately I think Formica and Rochina prefer to play in the hole as well.

I'd try 4-2-2-2 with Rochina and Hoilett in the hole if our squad was stronger. Our fullbacks would be left vulnerable and that's been a problem all season. Had we invested in a left back I would play a straight 4-4-2 with Olsson and Hoilett on the wings but emphasised the importance of tracking back and showing a little more tactical sense when on the ball - Hoilett needs to learn to let the ball do the work ocationally and not to take players on every time he's on it.

I'd probably get pretty miffed too if I was expected to win the majority of games by myself, as the players around me are nowhere near good enough and the manager sets my team up to lose every week. He's getting a fair wedge in terms of cash but it must be disheartening to have such talent and play in such a dire team.

He's had many games this season where he has seemed disinterested. Inexcusable.

He's had his head turned - no doubt. One month till January - he's probably got his bags packed with the hopes we'll cave for whatever low-ball, 11th hour offer Spurs eventually toss our way.

I can know answer 100% about being a mercenary and greed.

Ive just been headhunted and asked to change job (to a much bigger company with more career opportunities). They also wanted to give me more salary then my present job.

Seeing that I just got a raise and they were the ones who took a chance on me coming right from school I chose to stay with them despite the interest from the other bank.

It really isnt all about the money for me.

On the other hand my closest leaders are great people with a lot of respect for me and my family.

If we could get a bid large enough to secure the services of Vieirinha then I'd sell him in January. With Rochina and Vukcevic on board we do have players capable of scoring/creating goals from the same position Hoilett occupies. Vieirinha looks an amazing player and scores plenty of goals from the left wing, cutting inside onto his right foot.

Unfortunately Hoilett seems the sort of player who will let the unrest demotivate him, and we couldn't really afford to carry a player like that going into the relegation scrap at the end of the season. I'd be sad to see him go but I don't see any alternative.
