Ive said before on the salgado thread....he's our holding midfielder in waiting in my opinion. For me its a no brainer and im not suprised @#/? hasnt even tried it once....

If he doesn't have the legs for fullback anymore then how will he cope in cm?

We have enough bodies to through in there already. What we need is the high energy, specialist midfielder to put pressure on the opposition and drive us forwards when we have it.

We need a proper footballer holding the midfield..salgado....this position requires intelligence rather than pace. Its not the holding midfielders job to drive us forward...especially in a 5. Makelele, never had any pace....probably the best holding mid in recent times....sorry Biggus...you're incorrect on this point.

In any midfield pair one has to be the high energy 'general' for the combination to be a success. Whether paired up with a forward or deep playmaker or simple holding player.

We have players who can sit back, we have players who want to be creative in advanced positions. We don't have the general.

We have N'Zonzi who, whilst not perfect, is able to sit back and pick up the pieces with a more combative player alongside him. We have Dunn who still has the vision in forward areas but has always needed someone to do his running for him. Petrovic might, maybe, hopefully turn into more of the deeper playmaker but will always need covering by a more agressive player. Asking Salgado to move into a position that he doesn't know when his pace has gone means he would need someone to cover the ground for him.

Spot the running theme? I can't see any combination of those players above working for more than a couple of games. They are all missing the same Robbie Savage/Jermaine Jones type partner.

Of the players not mentioned, Pederson is ok in most areas but excels in few, which makes him a shoe-in at the moment but never a long term solution, Lowe might do it one day but shouldn't be relied on yet.

All only in my opinion so feel free to write it off as rubbish again. I'll won't do the same to yours just because I disagree with it slightly.

nobody fancies Petrovic then it would seem!, i think hed be worth a try in the midfield anchor role(which is where he has normally played in the past for club and country) where he can just sit use his physical presance to try break up attacks, win headers and spray passes out to teamates, the guy does need some serious weight training though hes lanky to say the least.

Fair enough mate...I just think that whilst we're paying someone vast amounts of money every week with 10 years plus experience at world level at madrid we might find a spot in there...Nzonzi is a petulant boy who cannot be relied on in a relegation battle. We needh a good old experienced head.

Maybe I'm being too quick to write him off, maybe he could do the job that we want the zonz to do. I do still think that our biggest issue in midfield is who we play in the other spot.

Anyway, now that we're all friends again; Vukcevic... Looks good to me. Hopefully any off-field nonsense between him and kean is resolved and he can start playing a regular part in or season.
