[Archived] Registering Birth

Recommended Posts

My son was born on the 21st November, sadly due to complications we had to be transfered to Burnley Womens and Newborn Centre and both wete kept in for 6 days. No panic all is fine now :-)

I know we cannot register him in Blackburn, but I was wondering if anyone knows if it has to be done in Burnley or can it be done in say Accrington?

I did it in Accrington mate, I begged and pleaded for them to leave the Burnley part off the birth certificate but no joy.

You can also do it in Clitheroe I beleive, the birth certificate will say Lancashire women and newborn centre Burnley.

To be honest it bothered me before he was born but the staff in Burnley were absolutely fantastic and the unit there is brilliant and they looked after them both really well as Nikki had to stay in a week or so as well.

Congrats again buddy hope mum and baby are well, you sleeping?

Congrats on the newborn

Iv thought about this issue, whenever my missus gets pregnant in the future, we will go private and either go beardwood or have a home birth, to get round the birth certificate issue.

There is a birthing centre in Blackburn which you can book through your midwife. My sister had her baby in there about 5 months ago.

Any complications though (even potential ones as a result of scans, etc) and you are whisked off to Burnley.

Getting broody? ;)

I could almost guarantee you would feel different as Paul said.

I was bothered before in more a jokey sort of way but once the wife started having any sort of complications I couldn't get to burnley quick enough.

The birthing centre at Blackburn is good but there are no doctors there in case they are needed, as much as I would have liked the full unit to be at Blackburn the standalone one at burnley is great.

Even if we had gone to Blackburn (which we could have done) Nikki would hve been taken in an ambulance to burnley and in that time who knows.

Can you even go private to have a baby in England?

My first was born at Blackburn and 2nd was at Burnley. We registered the first at BBurn and the 2nd at Rossendale.

The Burnley birthing unit is by far the better place to take your Mrs to give birth. The birthing centres aren't properly equipped to deal with major complications and as someone else said they will rush you to Burnley if something happens - which is a bloody long way when you are panicking! I'd urge any Rovers fan to put their child's health first rather than what will appear on a birth certificate and just go straight to Burnley :tu:

I'm not sure how common but there are certainly private midwives around. As for private birth, £10,000 looks a touch pricey compared to the NHS! As said before if you want to cover every possibility, the NHS is unbeatable.

From www.privatehealth.co.uk:

For example, a first birth at the Portland Hospital in London costs £2,880 for a normal delivery and £3,790 for an elective caesarean for the first 24 hours of care, including the delivery. Additional nights in a standard room cost around £1000. You also have to allow for the fees charged by your private consultant obstetrician, which might be £3,000 to £4,000. So, in total, a private birth at a hospital such as the Portland could cost £7,500 to £10,000. There will be some saving if you opt for a "Midwife led Delivery Service" or "Midwife Led Care". In this instance, you will still have a named obstetrician, but he or she will see you less often, and the birth may be supported by an on-call Consultant Obstetrician.

Makes you feel lucky to have the NHS (well makes me feel that way anyway)

Dread to think what it costs over the pond.

£10k to avoid a word on a birth certificate doesn't seem value for money to me

Got to admit burnley newborn centre is top class. It's unfortunate to have burnley on the birthplace but in the grand scheme it doesnt matter one bit.

Liverpool womens hossie is much better but hopefully no-one will ever have to go to the NICU referrla unit there.

You can register in King Georges Hall now.

Make an appointment and save time.
