[Archived] An Idea

Recommended Posts

Ok folks someone has proposed an idea, which I think is brilliant, would like your thoughts....

Chorley FC are in danger of going into administration, not our problem I know, but a few rovers old boys are leading the charge to save the club, Gary Flitcroft and Matt Jansen are two key members, they need £20000 to save Chorley FC, if between us, could we get 2000 protesters? I'm just thinking how much it would help as a show of defiance for 2000 rovers fans to turn up at Chorley FC next home match in blue and white, black and yellow, donating £10.00 per person to save chorley? The media coverage would be massive, and it would in essence show Venkys that just for one day we can spend £20000 elsewhere. Alternatively we can set up a paypal account and get donations to build this fund? It shows what type of community Rovers supporters are, and its a massive cause too,

Great idea Glen. Can I suggest attending match and Paypal account for those who can't attend.

If FC United get through in the cup, that game would be good. FC would take a few fans who possibly would join in any anti-venkys stuff (they like helping a good cause, I know a few of their supporters group leaders). Downside is that its mid-week.

We'll likely be playing Chorley in 2 or 3 seasons!!

In all seriousness, they aren't the only local non league club to have endured hard times in recent years. Darwen immediately springs to mind.

I kind of admire the sentiments but don't feel I owe Flitcroft or Jansen anything (they were very well paid by Rovers) and I'm not from Chorley and have no affinity with that club whatsoever.

Bah humbug. :xmas:

I like it.

Football and clubs are bigger than the people who own, run and even play for them. They are about the communities they represent, before big money that's what a club was the centre of the community. Get fans into Chorley on a weeknight or a time when Rovers ain't playing so we can't be criticised for 'abandoning our club' also. Kean would spin it as not real fans otherwise

What I would suggest though the PayPal account for those that dont go to Chorley that is set up does not just go to Chorley but is split between grass roots football or charities that support it that way it appeals to not just Rovers fans upset with how the club is being run it becomes An opportunity for football fans to show how disgusted they are with football in general with Rovers fans at the forefront.

Agreed. Clubs lower down the leagues are losing money hand over fist. It's not just Chorley. Yet Premier League petrodollars keep top league players wages astronomically high. They should ask Tevez to donate a day's wage. That would set them straight and then some. It's not like he's earning it at present. Or why don't they ask Flitcroft? He can't be short. Why doesn't he stick his hand in his pocket? He was quick to do so getting injunctions out a few years ago.

Call me a cynic but protesting hasn't got anyone anywhere so far and it won't. If Rovers keep losing Kean may go, eventually, but Venkys are here for a while.

Guest Rovers4Good

Failing that you could ask Venky's to put on an R&B concert for them or even create a chicken advert for them. :)

Or you could ask Kean to fund it out of his own pocket for forfeiting the Cardiff game LOL

Flitty is already working for Chorley FC on an unpaid basis, and has been from day 1. Also please do not ever forget Jansen's goal at Dumpdale in 2001!

I have already taken out a lottery standing order to help Chorley and I intend going a few mor times this season (more than Rovers, but blame Venkys for that).

Would be happy to help but I'd like to know why they're in financial trouble before I put my hand in my pocket.

If there's someone at the club that's filtering out money or not acting in the best interests of the club financially, there's no way I'll give them some of my hard-earned cash so they can continue taking advantage.

If, however, there's a genuine reason for their troubles and the club is run by those that have the best interests of Chorley FC at heart, I'll gladly help.

Being a Rovers fan under Venky's has made me cynical. But does anyone know the story?

Difficult to tell the detail as it is subject to a court case and we must not put BRFCS at risk. It is rumoured that one of the Club's non playing staff officials helped himself to a big wedge of CFC's financial reserves thus putting the Club at risk.

It could happen anywhere.....nudge nudge wink wink.

I have to agree with the OP, but also this post. I do think it's a great idea, a good form of protest too, which doesn't impede on our own team's ability on the pitch. I like the idea of doing it during an FA Cup game too (though by then I feel our fate will already be sealed one way or the other). But I can't help but think that a) Darwen would be a better recipient, and B) that, as much admiration as I have for them, we paid Flitcroft and Jansen more than ample amounts during their career for them to be able to sort Chorley out on their own if they feel sufficiently inclined.

If theyre playing fc united itll more than likely be all ticket and you'll have to have been to a game or two before.

i wouldnt count on most fc united fans giving a flying one about Rovers plight. Also fc united fans boycotted last game at chorley due to the ticketing resteictions put on them by lancs police.

Following this mornings idea to help save Chorley Football Club from administration being popular amongst the majority, a pay-pal account has been created for those who wish to make donations towards this. As well as raising money we do intend also to show our support with a turn-out at a Victory Park match, pencilled in for the 7th January. Those who won't be able to make it that day, may still wish to donate and can do so via paypal to [email protected].

I will be sunbathing by the pool, and pool side bar, in Maderia, on the 7th Jan. I will send Chorley a donation however.

The 10th would be better, a local derby v Burscough or FC Utd.
