Amo Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Wait, hear me out. If we're pennypinching again, maybe we could get him on loan? He's out of favour at Newcastle and would give us that fight in midfield we're sorely lacking. Just a thought.

Backroom DE. Posted December 29, 2011 Backroom Posted December 29, 2011 Worth a punt next season as he'd probably still make a decent Championship player, wouldn't help us this campaign though.
m1st Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 I'd completely forgotten about him. He's one of those players [like Robbie Savage?] whom you hate till your club signs him, isn't he?! According to Wikipedia, "on 7 June 2011, Smith was notified by the Newcastle management that his services would no longer be required, and he was free to leave the club." Which explains, I guess, why he didn't play against us in the League Cup. Subject to his wage demands, why not offer him a short-term [say 18 months; he's 30 now] contract? Or is he, like Wayne Bridge is said to be, happy to collect his pay without featuring in the first team?
roversfan99 Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 I'd probably prefer Andrews back. Probably. I'd like us to look at Brown and Ki from Celtic, and Davis at Rangers. Or Diame at Wigan.
scotty_beam_me_up Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 I think he works for Sky now as a co commentator. The Ex Arsenal front man probably wouldn't fancy it anyway.
budha Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 He couldn't be worse than Petrovic, Pedersen or Dunny. Barcodes would probably drive him to Ewood if we were interested, wether it was paying half of his wages for the rest of the season or taking him full time. If he's fit, he could be the savagesque element we've been missing for years now flying into two footed lunges all over the pitch.

New players has to bring quality in. Will we have new players though?
davulsukur Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 He would add some bite in midfield, wouldn't turn us down because we are gash (unlike plenty of others probably will), saves us some money and would be very handy next season in the championship.
AJW Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 not the worst suggestion , but i think signing him would be the equal of pulling a 1.55am bird
Baz Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Too many injury problems, too high wages, well passed his best - no thanks.
USABlue Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 I used to like Smith a lot but now, hell I did not even know he was still playing.
Magpie Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 Just want to add something as a Newcastle fan. You do not want Alan Smith ever. He is comfortably the worst player I've seen play for us. He has no ability whatsoever, he can't run, he can't pass at all, he can't shoot, he can't tackle- this fighter mentality is a myth too- he's a massive bottler and scared of the ball. Won't get near our team and there is speculation we'll end his contract early in January.
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 Never been the same since that bad injury he had. Stay well away, I'd rather have Andrews back than him.
Aberdeen Blue Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 not the worst suggestion , but i think signing him would be the equal of pulling a 1.55am bird So good for a short term ride then :-)
steo Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 He's on his way to ipswich probably to replace Andrews
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 He's on his way to ipswich probably to replace Andrews Good. That's his level.
Amo Posted January 4, 2012 Author Posted January 4, 2012 Good. That's his level. So why haven't we signed him?
