davulsukur Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 We can only afford a loan deal for a midfielder of Guthries quality? Bad times

John Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Kean said bids are in for players and he hopes to say more next week.
Ricky Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Guthrie would be a good addition to our midfield. Steady player and probably the type of player we need at the moment.
donnermeat Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Not seen much of Guthrie tbh but my mate is a Bolton fan and he rated him when he was there on loan (I know that was a few years ago though). Spoke to him today about this story and reckons he's really underrated.
King Kenny's Magic Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 We need to look short term at the mo. Any player that would improve us until the end of the season would be good in my book. Hopefully with PL status we can attract a better owner. Cue Quatar's prince dude to shimmy his way in... Told at ground today that loan bid for Newcastle's Guthrie has gone in. Wasn't your bookie was it MM?
m1st Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Kean said bids are in for players and he hopes to say more next week. He also said [on oath] that his drinks were spiked.
Give 'Em the Axe Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Is Guthrie a midfield warrior then? Or a fancy Dan?
Mercer Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 We need to look short term at the mo. Any player that would improve us until the end of the season would be good in my book. Hopefully with PL status we can attract a better owner. Cue Quatar's prince dude to shimmy his way in... Wasn't your bookie was it MM? Funnily, no ! He's not speaking to me at the moment because I've taken a few quid off him with 3 straight winners on the nags this week and he wont take any further bets from me, at least on the horses, as he reckons I've inside info. ! Oh the irony ! However, sent him a bottle of Ootori (Jap. Prem. Whisky) as a 'peace' offering and I think normal service will be resumed next week !
AJW Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Is Guthrie a midfield warrior then? Or a fancy Dan? both and neither.... he dont mind sticking his foot in but he aint no jermaine jones
Give 'Em the Axe Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Thanks AJW. I've never seen the lad play, but we do need someone who can put it about. I may get slaughtered for this. But, with Chung-yong Lee being a Bolton player, the sports channel here shows a lot of Bolton Wanderers. I think Reo-Coker on a free might have been nice business for us in the Summer. He's never disgraced himself even when they've been pasted. He's got a lot of energy and seems to relish the battle.
donnermeat Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Kean said bids are in for players and he hopes to say more next week. He'll still come up with the same rubbish next week except he will go to his old favourite, talking about how many 'active' bids we have in for players......
John Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 I love it when he says active bids - actually after yesterday and the result, I think I love him.
Speedie Dived Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Over to Venkys now. After yesterday there is a smidgen of positivity around the club for once. I think we have accepted that Samba is offski, so get that sorted ASAP and then get 3-4 in on the back of that. If they do then there is a chance we might get away with this season by the skin of our teeth.
technoprisoners Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Joey Barton on his way out at QPR according to the Sunday Mirror http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/transfer-news/QPR-Mark-Hughes-is-ready-to-ditch-Joey-Barton-article854007.html Could Venky's live with or Kean handle Joey's behaviour? If so, Barton adds creativity and steel in midfield. May be worth a chance in the knowledge that he would probably be off if we go down.
roversfan99 Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Nicko thinks that Newcastle don't have enough midfielders to loan Guthrie out.
RTM08 Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Joey Barton on his way out at QPR according to the Sunday Mirror http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/transfer-news/QPR-Mark-Hughes-is-ready-to-ditch-Joey-Barton-article854007.html Could Venky's live with or Kean handle Joey's behaviour? LeChuck Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Barton signed a 4 year deal worth £60k a week, QPR will struggle to get rid of him. We haven't got a chance unless they're willing to part fund any move. Also, he's very outspoken on twitter, I think he might be quite opinionated on things like match day protests.
John Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 I could see Barton threatening one of the Rao brothers and we wouldn't want that to happen... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/16565514.stm
Boylerhaus Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Cabaye now injured. Not a chance of Newcastle letting Guthrie go with Tiote also gone, let alone on a loan.
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted January 15, 2012 Moderation Lead Posted January 15, 2012 Halfway through January, good to see we're getting our business done early.....
chaddyrovers Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Halfway through January, good to see we're getting our business done early..... not many clubs in Premier League have done alot of business tho. be a strange window so far. lots of rumours but not much movement yet. Next 2 weeks will be busy.
jones_rover Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Guthrie has been excellent for Newcastle today and has just been awarded MotM. With their absence of Tiote and now injury to Cabaye there is not a chance we will be able to get hold off him in any capacity!
Oklahoma Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Remember when Rovers "wanted" Ronaldinho but he went back to Brazil? Well, it seems he will be free again soon. Flamengo hasn't paid him in a few months and his agent said he will probably leave. Prepare yourself for more rumours linking us to him all over the internet and newspapers...
Mercer Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 not many clubs in Premier League have done alot of business tho. be a strange window so far. lots of rumours but not much movement yet. Next 2 weeks will be busy. Chaddy, you've been listening to Kean too much and drinking too much beer. Nearly all our activity, IMO, will be sales !
John Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 So stupid by Kean saying that we could get any deals done early in the window - very difficult to do, especially in January - once again illustrating his inexperience/naivety.
