January Transfer Window - Part One

Even if we had been sitting comfortably in mid-table the dealings this window would have been seen as a huge gamble. To be sitting in the relegation zone and put the emphasis on reducing the wage bill rather than strengthening the team is sheer madness. I'm sure it will be a great comfort to us next season travelling to Peterborough to know that we have reduced the wage bill.

I think this window demonstrates that Desai has no interest in Blackburn Rovers and that she has hung Kean out to dry with her lack of support. The manager has no credibility left with his claims that we would do our business early with players who would hit the ground running. Two players have been signed who are an unknown quantity in English football and who are going to need time to settle and adjust to the Premier League - time which we simply haven't got. We have also very kindly helped QPR to get rid of some of their deadwood to make room for their quality signings. Then there is the Nelsen departure to allow Wolves to strengthen their squad - you really couldn't make it up.

We still have no idea if Samba is going to play or if he does play how committed he will be. Hoilett is on his way out in the summer while Salgado, who wants to play, is told he can't by Desai. Still, we have Bradley Orr from the QPR reserve team to challenge Bruno for the right-back spot - or we would if Bruno wasn't one of the few Brazilians on the planet who is not terribly good at football.

In many ways I'm starting to feel desperately sorry for Kean. No wonder he is unmoved by the protests. Madam Desai seems to be far more effective in undermining him with her lack of support when it comes down to hard cash.

What a difference between the owners at QPR and the clowns in Pune. No wonder Hughes wouldn't come anywhere near this circus. Indeed, Kean is clearly going to have a job for life as no self-respecting manager would touch this club with a barge pole.

Deep in the relegation mire and the only thing Desai is concerned about is reducing the wage bill rather than strengthening to squad to ensure Premier League survival. One suspects that our Indian friends have completely given up on the club. I suspect a large number of season ticket holders are likely to give up on the club in the summer.

Cracking point.

Abysmal window which has, most likely, consigned us to Championship next season and lost the club at least 10,000 season tickets no matter what league we are in.

IMO, our owners and manager have, again, been shown to have little, if any, credibility and integrity.

Would Spurs release Bassong on loan to Wolves if they weren't certain of Nelsen's fitness ? In my view, the whole Nelsen business stinks as do many other aspects of our club now.

I believe that our club is now on life support.

Hilarious.

I admit the window hasn't been as disastrous as it could have been, but the way we have gone about things is a disgrace. From the handling of the Roberts and Andrews situations and then to compound it all the horrendous treatment of our club captain Nelsen.

Agreed. I'm not disappointed with the loss of the players as they offered little if anything to us now. But the way their Rovers careers- along with Salgado's were brought to an end were farcical and unprofessional. The way the club is being run is embarrassing.

As I've said in other posts, I dont have much of a problem with the players being moved on and I think it makes some financial sense. However, this transfer window has heaped more embarrassment upon the club. Rovers' reputation must be dirt just about everywhere.

Venkys Out.

look at the support big sam has had at west ham, theyre top, have strengthened significantly in this window, whilst we are near the bottom and done sod all, no wonder he couldnt wait to get away, who would work for these clowns?

also i am sure samba is looking enviously at nelsen getting a dream move to spurs when its a move he wanted all along, that will probably detract even further from his commitment knowing he has been well and truly stuffed.

I may have missed something but how has nelsen been treat horrendously? Has he not really been injured? If that's the case it's pretty bad otherwise we've released him to go to a club at the top end of the table.

I'm still waiting to hear what Bolton have done that is so good off anyone

As an aside Samba to some oil rich country on loan ala Gyan wouldn't shock me!

A terrible window in terms of incomings. Acceptable in terms of outgoings.

On balance however it does look ike we have a decent chance of staying up. If we look at the squad:-

Strikers - Yakubu has goals, so seemingly does Goodwillie

Attacking midfielders - Dunn in great form atm, Formica shows quality, Vukcevic and Rochina knocking about also. Actually have too much quality in this area to be honest. Much better than our relegation rivals. You can see this in our goals for tally.

Wing - Holett is one of the outstanding wingers in the premiership. Pedersen is okay.

Central Midfield - Very weak. Only two recognised CMs, plus Lowe. However Nzonzi has played brilliantly recently and Petrovic has looked more comfortable. Really need to keep this tight if we are to defend well, so crucial.

Fullback- Much much better since Olsson and Lowe have played instead of Salgado and Givet. Henley looks to standard and able to play RB and LB.

Centre Backs - Givet is quality, Dann okay, Hanley has hugely improved. Samba I think will be frozen out now.

Keepers - Both Robinson and Bunn look more than good enough.

So if you look across the squad, even if the new signings are useless and Samba is frozen out, we should have enough quality to stay up. The main area of concern for me is if Yak, Hoilett, Nzonzi or Petrovic get injured as we have insufficient cover for those positions.

It's not really a bad squad compared to those around us at the bottom, and recently we have been playing well so it's not all doom and gloom.

Still Venkys have to go. They must want to go by now surely? Absolutely no idea what they are doing and seemingly completely uninterested.

Why would Redknapp let Bassong leave and then sign Nelsen, who I assume passed a medical, who supposedly is knackered and hasn't played for 6 months? That's what I don't understand...

Don't get me wrong I'm pleased for Nelsen because he has now left the shambles that is our club and gone on to bigger and better things!

Hilarious :D

Tremblers out in force!

Well done to Steve, for clearing the decks. Removing the inefficient drain on the wage bill (Roberts & Andrews [both bobbins], and The Admiral [now a severe crock, and will probably not play again).

Under testing circumstances, good old Steve has come up trumps.

Muppet.

Totally agree with this.

The more this goes on the more Kean looks like he is actually doing a decent job with precious little support from owners or fans.

The whole situation is totally barmy.

Treated is past tense.

I'm happy.

Hopefully Samba will pull his socks up. At the very worst QPR never got him.

Ryan N out is as odd one in terms of the buyers and whether he is fit but could do well for them in other ways than playing.

Junior and Formsy being kept is good news. Junior for obvious reasons and i think Formica is a good player getting better.

Know nothing about Orr other than the obvious but if he can do anything then it means Lowe may be able to play in midfield (again somewhat an unknown to me other than i know that's his preferred position.)

Similar situation will the t'other Olsson but if he's as quick as his brother at least we have a better version of Walcott.

Petrovic starting to look good.

Goodwillie doing what a striker should do.

Not sure everyone should be so glum.

I don't understand Louis Saha either. Just because we don't understand Redknapp's thinking, doesn't make it dodgy.

Perhaps he wanted someone more experienced at the back, Nelsen is an excellent leader of men.

Financially Spurs will be better off as well. Wolves will have paid a fee to take Bassong.

Here, Nelsen says he was injured in August trying to rush back from injury. You think that's a lie...and this last minute rushed transfer was actually planned since last year?

I've no problem with any of the aforementioned players leaving but feel we've missed a real trick by not getting a bit of quality in who might be able to reignite a bit of belief we can actually stay up. For me its now a 4 team scrap as QPR have bought their way out. Need to win tomorrow and suddenly the QPR game that i thought we had a chance in for me has become one we could easily lose.

It always feels good to make Spurs a bit of money, whilst simultaneously paying off one of your own players to join them and also allowing your relegation rivals to strengthen at the same time!

More textbook Venkys :rover:
