There has been quite a lot of work done on a number of incoming deals over the last few days, but until a player is sold most of these deals can't be completed.

It does now seem that Kean can spend money he gets from sales, previously it was feared that most of this money would be used to balance the books.

I suspect that Hoilett will play a canny game and if none of the clubs he fancies are willing to tip-up £8m then he'll wait for summer and join one of them for compo of c£3m.

Like it or not, I think it's pretty certain Samba is on his way.

Its pointless talking about targets when we need to sell first.

What happens if we dont sell Hoilett in the first couple of weeks? Targets will be lost and we will still be struggling.

Personally I would sell Hoilett for £6 million now than £8 million in three weeks, that could buy:

Johnson

Onohua (??)

Gunter

Three players who would walk into our first 11 and allow Lowe to play Centre midfield, thus in essence becoming four signings, it is not going to happen though is it?

I agree with that imy, but I think we will still struggle, I think losing hoiletts attacking flair will be a loss, I suppose we do have olsson and rochina.

I would look to loan a quick attacking player at least, we have struggled without the speed olsson & hoilett, Id hope with gunter comming in and henley we could push olsson permanently on the wing. I still think we would need an experienced midfielder be that loan or buy.

Why do you want Lowe to play in midfeld. What I have seen he's far better at rightback with his pace.

I would invest in a good centremidfelder.

From what I've seen of Lowe I think he is a average player, he has a bit of pace but his final ball and cross isn't up to much. He hit the 1st man everytime with his crossing against Stoke. Putting him in the middle would be Crazy. He looked lost against Sunderland away in the 2nd half.

He needs time to develop.

Why are we even looking at so many strikers? We are scoring plenty of goals so waste of money. We need defensive players. We can't keep a clean sheet for the life of us. If we can get 2 solid defensive signings, 1 ball winning mid-fielder then if we have money to spend (which i doubt we will have anyway) then look at a striker to support Yak. The only striker i'd take out of our rumoured list is Sordell.

As the majority of buying clubs - and Spurs especially - will wait as late as possible in order to get a reduced price the mods might as well close this thread until 11 p.m. on 31st January when we can all marvel at Kean's audacious swoop for the next...{insert name of any top footballer here} to replace the departed Samba, Hoillett etc etc.

The worry is only spurs are serious about samba and they tend to move late in the window meaning we have no time for replacements.

Kammy are we any closer to offloading any of our squad?

Kean wants Fulham striker Johnson, Nottingham Forest full-back Chris Gunter and Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha to join Rovers' fight for survival, but has been told he has to sell to fund signings.

I'd pass on Johnson.

Gunter and Onuoha would be good defensive choices.

Granero on loan would improve the midfield.

We still need another striker. Goodwillie Blackman are not it.

Looking at the names mentioned on these threads there is a hell of a lot of wishfull thinking going on!!!

Don't know how people put themselves through it.

We'll do nothing until the last minute, where we sell Robinson, Hoilett & Nzonzi before bringing in Michael Tonge and Gustavo Echeverría.

We can get by without signing full backs i think. Henley is a right back so can move there now Gvet and Olsson are available, he looks more than up to the job. Lowe can also cover there. At left back we have olsson, Givet and Morris. My main concern is striker - if Yakubu gets injured we are so absolutely screwed it is ridiculous (Goodwillie or Slew?!?! My god....), and central midfield where we desperately need a Jermine Jones/Savage type.

If we get away with just selling Hoilett for 8m, and maybe Formica for 5m then an establshed striker and a midfielder then I think we should be okay. I know playing the name game is a bit silly, but just adding a Jermine Jones to our team makes it so much more robust.

------------------------Bunn

Henley-----Samba-----Givet-----Olsson

-----------------------Nzonzi

--Simon----Jones------Pedersen---Rochina

----------------------Yakubu

Without the midfielder and the striker i fear we are dead in the water.

I think we need at least one full back, definatly need one if hoilett goes just to push olsson onto the wing so we have some speed and outlet to attack - which we lacked at stoke.

at the moment our best team would be imo.

robinson

lowe..samba..givet..henley

......nzonzi...pedersen

hoilett..formica..olsson

yak

we just havent had players fit to play this.

I honetly think if olssen and hoilett had stayed fit we would have done much better so far. from that team we need at least a full back and a midfielder. If we sell hoilett and formica I think we need to get another quck attacking player. for second stiker we have - dunn, rochina, simon, and also goodwillie, to be honest we need another striker aswell, only decent proven winger we have if hoilett goes is olsson.

we need to get bodies in that can jump straight in, then players like pedersen and dunn can be back up for injuries instead of being out main players becasue Keans players are stuggling to get up to speed in a squat that keeps losing and is low on confidence, we need 3 - 4 players as it is, if we sell hoilett and formica we will need 4 or 5

So if venkys are not investing any money, its just another move by them that will help us to get relegated.

In my opinion we need a RB, LB and CM.

Realistically, I'd like to see us sign

Onouha (loan)

Jermaine Jones (loan)

Kranjcar/Rose/Livermore/Pienaar - Possible make weight in a Hoilett deal?

If we do drop down to the Championship to get players then people like

Nathaniel Clyne

Kebe at Reading (Pace Pace Pace)

Jem Karacan at Reading (Hes a Rovers fan)

Matt Phillips at Blackpool

Marvin Sordell

Robert Snodgrass

Nicky Maynard

We're relying to heavily on Yak. What if he suffers a dip in form or gets injured? I think we need a new RB, LB, CM and striker. Preferably experienced players who knows how to survive a dogfight. No chance in hell we will get four quality players to slot straight into our team with no money though.

Venky's out.

Agree with all these however I don't think jermain jones is available anymore. One player who is available for about 1 million due to his contract ending in the summer is johny howson at Leeds. He's a class act and far better than midfielders we have at the minute

I really think the most pressing issue is an experienced right back. A complete safe pair of hands who can keep the youngsters in line when called upon. I'd love it if, like Emerton, he could offer something going forward too, but most importantly is somebody who does not make mistakes, doesn't dick about on the ball, is the image of professionalism.

I think Goodwillie could be a decent forward if given a run and he and the Yak could work together quite well. My team:

Yakubu Goodwillie

Olsson Pedersen N'zonzi Simon/Rochina

Henley Givet Samba (Right Back)

Robbo

The right wing is assuming Hoilett is sold off.

If Spuds go for Samba I'd want cash + Bentley + Danny Rose. I know Bentleys out injured for another month yet but he'd stay with us if we went down too so its a good investment, similarly Danny Rose, possibly the right back we've needed and young and unproven enough to stay with us if we go down.

I think someone on here mentioned that Jones hasn't really featured much for Shalke ths season. I can't remember if it's because he's injured or out of favour. Can somebody clarify this?

He has played a decent amount, just got an 8 week ban for stamping on an opponent though.

Don't know if a ban is still effective in another country? If not, and he is out for 2 months it might suit all parties to loan him to us 'til summer??

We need a midfield enforcer.....that is our main weakness. Our centre midfield is as soft as they come......they dont help out defensively and they hardly put a hard tackle in.

Not sure he's the right man - but what about Karl Henry at Wolves? Out of favour.....

We need a Tiote!!
