Makey11 Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 maybe neither - Makey did say "official" - which means there could have been telehpone conversations and the like potentially ? Makey - are you able to share anymore info as you said our targets weren`t that great, or something to that effect.......... cant say much, but the targets at the moment arent even first team players for their clubs.
Clitherover Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 He's a top player and would be a great signing for us. That's why we won't end up going for him.
Makey11 Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 He's a top player and would be a great signing for us. I'd go for that. think about his wages.... rovers are trying to get rid of all the big wages... not take more on board. no chance.
Martin Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 This is depressing. Quite frankly all the players have under performed this year and I wouldn't be left devastated by any departure. This in itself is a sad state of affairs. The reality is this - if I am a decent Rovers player (i.e. Samba, Junior etc) I'd want out (and quickly). And if I am decent player elsewhere there is no way I would be coming to Rovers without a substantial pay increase and/or cheap relegation release clause.
davulsukur Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 think about his wages.... rovers are trying to get rid of all the big wages... not take more on board. no chance. I am thinking about our premier league survival. If Venkys think they can cut wages and bring in replacements on peanuts and still survive, they are kidding themselves. If you want premier league players, your gonna have to pay them premier league wages.
Torgeir Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 What do people think Kranjcar would be valued at? Spurs and their valuations is a chapter alone. I'd put him in the £4m bracket so getting him plus some cash for Hoilett would be a good deal. Question is whether he's the right type of player for us now. If we want to start playing football then yes. If we want to scrap as our position and fragile confidence indicates then I'd say no, and instead spend the money someone in t he J. Jones mould. Corluka + Kranjcar for Hoilett is a perfect deal for me. Then beg Venky's for some cash for another two signings.
lukey Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 That would be great, but then I'd say we would need to sell samba for sure to gain more cash for the other signings.
LeChuck Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Corluka and Krancjar would be excellent. Spurs' attempts to use him as an orthodox central midfielder have toughened him up so I think he'd be ok to come into a team scrapping for survival. Corluka is absolutely perfect for what we need - a right back who can cover centrally if needs be. I'd snap their hands off as a swap deal for Hoilett at this stage. To be honest, I'd try and get Bassong + cash for Samba as well, meaning we had a replacement but also money to get a midfielder and cover elsewhere. Robinson Corluka Dann Bassong Givet N'Zonzi J. Jones Vukcevic Krancjar Olsson Yakubu I think that team would be stronger and more balanced than what we have now. Shift some of the baggage and we'd have room to bring in a cover player for full back and Yakubu as well.

You know it'll never happen in a month of Sundays.
magicalmortensleftpeg Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 J.Jones is a first teamer for Schalke and was valued at £8-10m last summer. He aint coming back. The Yak's release clause.. how many people thought he score a dozen goals before January?? He could easily have turned into another Goodwillie. Hoilett for Kranjcar and cash is a no brainer. Just dont let him talk to Kalinic before joining.
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted January 6, 2012 Moderation Lead Posted January 6, 2012 Allegedly Jermaine Jones has been given an 8 game ban at Schalke? (not by the club) Wonder if this applies to English football?....
Amo Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 That's crazy putting a 1.5m release clause in Yak's contract. Why put such a low figure! Because there's no chance of us getting relegated under Kean.
rovers11 Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Because there's no chance of us getting relegated under Kean. Oh, yes. I forgot about that. Someone really should have told Kean to put his money where his mouth is after making that quote. Maybe someone should ask him that question again and ask him whether he's willing to give half of his salary to charity if we go down. His reaction would be priceless.

Or to the poor fans who have had to cough up to watch his team this year
LeChuck Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 No offence, Chuck, but why did you even bother typing that out? You know it'll never happen in a month of Sundays. Hah, none taken. I did stop half way through, think the very same thing and then delete it all. Then I realised I'd started doing it because I was bored, and was still bored, so did it again. It could have some merit as a hypothetical discussion around losing Samba and Hoilett but coming out a stronger team...maybe.
OJRovers Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Ah so this is what asset stripping feels like... I can't see Venkys being interested in any Cash + Player deals, they will want cash upfront to satisfy the bank that the club will stay afloat until they can do a runner.
Elvis McSmithy Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Just read on the sun that the Yak has a £1.5 million release clause in his deal should we go down. Brilliant. to be far to the player, thats how much we paid for him an hes allready far exeeded what youd expect for a striker costing 1.5mill, so we have more than had our moneys worth from him and also his agent is pini zahavi(an agent that makes jerome anderson look like a sunday league scout).
Taggart Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 cant say much, but the targets at the moment arent even first team players for their clubs. thanks Makey and completely understand, sources and all cheers
Elvis McSmithy Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Ah so this is what asset stripping feels like... I can't see Venkys being interested in any Cash + Player deals, they will want cash upfront to satisfy the bank that the club will stay afloat until they can do a runner. to be far cash+player/swap deals rarely happen these days, there usually just lazy rumours from tabloid hacks or wishfull thinking from fans, i imagine this is because its much more complicated than it seems especially once the players agents get involved. i think the players we are chasing are- Bassong, Andy J, W Bridge(please no,but he his 1 of Pini's Boys), Gunter, the lower league striker could be any mother....(if true) and as for the box2box midfield leader we really need i cant think of any that would be available or affordable to us.
Hughesy Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Bassong isnt half the player of Samba....so dont agree with that bit, that position would be weakened. Corluka at 25 id take for right back/ central cover. Id say Sell Hoilett in exchange for Corluka & Krancjar. Makes us instantly stronger at right back, allows Lowe to play in his natural position if good enough, and add creativity/ premier league experience in Krancjar. Id forget AJ on 50k & £2m fee and try to get Carlton Cole on loan
Mattyblue Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 'No bids have come in but we haven't spoken to him about extending his contract," the Scot added. That's odd because I thought we'd been in talks with Junior for months?!?!?
Taggart Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 don`t understand why people are mentionibng Corluka and Kranckjar - there is no chance either of them would digress to playing for Rovers, let alone their wages. They are quality players who would command starting places in pretty decent teams across England and Europe. I would be as surprised as Bellamy signing if we got one fo those two, but it isn`t gonna happen

They might believe Kean's BS, or they might believe their own hype and think that they'll keep us up. As long as they're paid well and have clauses inserted in their contracts I don't think they worry too much.
