J*B Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Is this Gareth Jones? Can we please leave anything to do with statements are public talking to Glenn? Gareth Jones just got absolutely brutalised, it was horrible to listen to. The presenter clearly had an agenda and an angle to work on, and Gareth ended up simply saying "no that wasn't me. " or "I don't know"
Backroom Tom Posted January 5, 2012 Backroom Posted January 5, 2012 Charlie magpie is a Chorley fan not someone from the action group
footypix Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Rovers fan's who aren't going to Newcastle, why not support the Rovers Ladies team, a team short on support and also short on funds...the players don't get wages on expenses. They play for the SHIRT... They play home games at Radcliffe Borough - £3 admission. The next game is on Sunday 8th January v Rochdale away in the FA Women's Cup. While helping Chorley is a worthy cause...why not help and support a team of your own - BRLFC. Rovers Review - BRLFC
Stuart Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Isn't the whole point of the Chorley game to avoid all things Rovers? The problem now is we seem to have lots of different ideas about how to protest and what we are protesting about! Ironic on the day that Rovers supporters groups unite in their admonishment of Kean still being manager on the same day Glen confirms the biggest protest yet (v Fulham) will be against Venkys. Either the supporters groups are way behind the curve, or have a different agenda to the visible demonstrations. Not good.

To fragmented, fans leaving it up to others to protest while they do nothing. Cheers BKR
Roversider Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 As I can't make it to Newcastle I was planning to go down to Victory Park to watch the other Magpies. It is nothing to do with the protests and I won't be wearing any Rovers colours or the yellow and black worn by some. I'm a Blackburn lad through and through and I'm also 100% Rovers. But, as I said I can't get up to Newcastle and I actually live in Chorley so watching them against North Ferriby isn't too much of a burden. I will be listening to the Rovers scores when I can and I am hoping we progress in the FA Cup. But, part of me is put off because of the potential to be seen supporting a protest, I will never be a proper Chorley supporter but an occasional spectator and as they have money problems my bit of cash on the day will help. However on the day there will be no signs from me that I am a Rovers fan, that is disrespectful to Chorley. Sure, go and watch Chorley for positive reasons but don't use Victory Park as a place to air protests about Venkys or Kean. So on Saturday lets hope the Rovers beat the Magpies and the Magpies beat yon Yorkshire lot.
Backroom Tom Posted January 5, 2012 Backroom Posted January 5, 2012 I'm actually considering making the trip if I finish my work in time, may be fun to see some football without the stress

So on Saturday lets hope the Rovers beat the Magpies and the Magpies beat yon Yorkshire lot. That just about sums up my feelings too. I've been to the odd Chorley match over the years especially as a kid in the 70s before we had a car. My parents have started going to watch them when Rovers are away quite regularly, so I thought it would be a good idea to pop along this weekend. I want to support Chorley, not be seen to knocking Rovers. However, it seems that something which could have been so easily have seen as a positive "Premier League Fans Help Out Non-League Neighbours" has now become "Evil Rovers Fans Spit Into The Face Of Their Own Team Again". How did things come to this?

mark1875 Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Just a quick reminder that anybody wishing to make this journey on Saturday and need's transport for it, we still do have coach places left from Ewood park to Chorley at £4 return. Anyone needing transport, drop me a message. Let's try and make this a fun day, raising money and lifting the spirits around Victory park!

How did things come to this? Unfortunately this is how the press like to spin stories, This is NOT a protest, if we was gonna boycott a game it would be a home game, This is about raising much needed funds for a local team who are desperate and have a massive rovers connection in their management and playing staff. I listened to the five live interview Gary Jones did today, and the press wanted it to be a boycott and he said NO IT WAS NOT, Other media outlets contacted me, Gary and when they found out it was not a boycott they had little interest. Hopefully rovers supporters will be painted in a better light by helping Chorley, but more importantly the rovers supporters efforts have a positive effect on Chorley raising the funds they need to be here this time next year

Whilst the 'voice' of the protests is saying that this is an act to merely support Chorley in its hour of need, that doesnt seem to be the case when reading through this message board, and I am sure that there will be people there with a protesters agenda. I for one will be at Newcastle tomorrow, but if I hadn't been going I would have thought twice about going to Chorley, for the same reasons as you, despite going there as a kid in the early 70's, having family from there and still being a member of Chorley Golf Club!

Just simply turning up and paying the extra £4/£8 would've sufficed.
sijoco Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 I'm pretty sure those at Chorley FC couldn't give a toss why people are attending whether it's cos they live there, they are in protest at their club or cos it's the weekend they visit a club beginning with "C". So for anyone to say it's an insult to Chorley because of the reasons people are going, ask the guy counting the pennies at the end of the day, l'm pretty sure he couldn't care less
Mike Graham Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Can't go this Saturday but already support CFC via their lottery. I understand that Trevor Hemmings , who owns CFC, bailed the Club out a week ago, is anyone else aware please?
mark1875 Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 If it was only just about helping Chorley, then it didn't need to be in press at all. Just simply turning up and paying the extra £4/£8 would've sufficed. So Gareth just decides to help and then decides to turn up and pay the £9 without telling anyone? and chorley get 9 quid? Gareth (who has never participated in any protest to my knowledge) came up with the idea, suggested it on message boards, fan's groups etc and contacted Chorley. Then the press get to hear about it via these boards and across twitter. Simply turning up and paying the 9 quid would not have got the people to go with him. Of course it needs putting out there, If we were owned by a billionaire and managed by Sir Alex and top of the table we would still have ended up with press coverage, so to suggest the only reason the press got wind is because it's not just about helping Chorley is completely wrong.
The Gull Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Can't go this Saturday but already support CFC via their lottery. I understand that Trevor Hemmings , who owns CFC, bailed the Club out a week ago, is anyone else aware please? He offered to match what Chorley FC could raise, probably about £40k, just a drop in the ocean to him, he could quite easily have cleared the debt himself with his fortunes, but never the less it's better than nothing.
pokeheruptheace Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 He offered to match what Chorley FC could raise, probably about £40k, just a drop in the ocean to him, he could quite easily have cleared the debt himself with his fortunes, but never the less it's better than nothing. TJH Holdings which is Trevor Hemmings holding company matched the money raised. Its a bit of a complex issue because he is not allowed to own outright 2 Clubs because of conflict of interest. ie they could be drawn in cup (PNE v Chorley) He owns the ground at VP and doesnt charge anything for Chorley to play there, also the groundsman from PNE also does VP pitch so they can help out there . I dont think He personally would be allowed to crash 40K out of his own bank account. Like I say its a complex issue which Im sure someone could explain much better than I have. PS I live in the Chorley area and will be there tomorrow and I have it on good authority that Sky sports cameras will be there as well.

Amo Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 It's worth going to Chorley if only to check out the opposition.
EwoodDawn Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 I've found a timetable on the web for the 124 Chorley bus, saying it leaves the Feilden's at 1306. Does anyone know if this is an up to date TT?
