thenodrog Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 His contracts been paid up and most likely part of the deal is a keep your gob shut clause. I can't imagine that will be the case given that he is obviously going to be paid by Spurs. Mutually agreed severence deal at best. Might be a few grand on top to keep his gob shut though. No doubt Dastardly will have included the conditions in the document.

RIML Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Not posted on the boards for a while but everyone knows how much I love Nelsen. Truly gutted he's left, the manner in which he left too. He didn't have a chance to say goodbye but he always thanked the fans before and after every game like a model pro. He gave everything and more and I am proud that he captained this once great football club. Thanks for the memories. Rovers legend, true blue.
Andy Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 He's been a good servant for the first few years but unavailable for massive portions of the last two. Sad to see his career tail off but great to see his £60k plus a week off the wage bill. Not even close.
Stonesrick Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Not even word of thanks for his 7 years at the club on the official website. What a disgrace of a club we have become!
thenodrog Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 He didn't have a chance to say goodbye but he always thanked the fans before and after every game like a model pro. He should do a Tugay and walk around the pitch from the riverside/ bburn end corner after the match has commenced to take his seat. He'd bring the house down!
BRFC1995 Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 I doubt it's 60k. More like 40k. thought it was bumped to 45k when pompey apparently bid 3 or 4 years ago, going by paper talk anyway.
grinder Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Not sure which is odder, Rovers decision to release him or Totteham's decision to take him.............. I know he is a bright guy with some degree qualification - he doesn't specialise in offshore tax by any chance does he Never gave less than 100% for us and a perfect role model (injuries apart) - you would think we would need someone with his presence around the place but then again may be thats why he's gone in the crazy world that is our club.
John Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Don't need him and we don't need clean sheets....especially as Scotty Dann looks so good thus far.
Paul Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 .I think its good financial planning. Hmmmmm - Spurs don't want Samba but opt for Nelsen. So we pay up Nelsen's contract and give him away to Spurs then we drop Samba, who apparently is worth a bob or two but is sulking in a corner, and play Dann. Dann promptly runs away from a ball he should bust a gut to get and we immediately concede a goal leading to another three points lost. Samba or Nelsen would have tried to win the ball and we might have won to move two places clear of the relegation zone. With QPR for the next home game. I'm all in favour of good financial planning with emphasis in GOOD not desperate cost cutting

I'm all in favour of good financial planning with emphasis in GOOD not desperate cost cutting I think he might have struggled to get that pass and couldn't risk being stranded out of line and out of position in fairness. He might have been more at fault for not stepping up quicker though. Lowe must not be blameless either but imo Petrovic was most at fault for not looking. It would still not have mattered but for the massive deflection caused by the that jinx Big Sam must have got put on him by some gypsy mates in Limerick. Steve Kean is not only the most inept manager in recent history he is unlucky to boot.
The Gull Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 quote from gull if you are the management of this football club and you have somebody that could be a possible distraction to the squad for the rest of the season, when solidarity is required, then you would have to make sure that individual was not allowed back in. I am assuming here that the relationship between Nelsen and the management had broken down beyond repair and therefore no way to correct this. The management have then done the only thing that can be done and elimnated the problem and for this decision, not what has gone on before hand, I think they have made the right call, for the good of the club so why didnt they get rid of samba then ? Surely you don't believe that the club would give away somebody they value at £15m and has recently signed a long term contract? Nelsen had no real market value due to his age and the ammortisation in the accounts of his fees. Quite simple really.
thenodrog Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 quote "I am assuming here that the relationship between Nelsen and the management had broken down beyond repair and therefore no way to correct this." Might equally apply to samba?
Mercer Posted February 2, 2012 Author Posted February 2, 2012 iansingleton1Ian Singleton Interesting that #thfc a/mgr Kevin Bond says Ryan Nelsen is fit to play against #lfc on Monday given his omission at #rovers this season
The Gull Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 quote "I am assuming here that the relationship between Nelsen and the management had broken down beyond repair and therefore no way to correct this." Might equally apply to samba? No doubt it does Gordon, but as I said they have a price for him that they see as achievable and is substantial, the same could not be said for Nelsen. They might be daft but they are not going to just accept peanuts for Samba, he is an asset to the club, and by this I mean in the books that they are using to negotiate with the banks.
BlueMonday Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 SSN confirm Nelsen to Spurs, and he'll be in the squad to face Liverpool! So, why hasn't he been avaiable for Rovers. Question to S Kean.
tomphil Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 SSN confirm Nelsen to Spurs, and he'll be in the squad to face Liverpool! So, why hasn't he been avaiable for Rovers. Question to S Kean. It's quite simple, Billy Liar has been doing what he does best and spinning us another yarn in order to cover his and his paymasters backs ! This whole thing makes me sick to the back teeth now

This whole thing makes me sick to the back teeth now Maybe it was in fact Nelsen spinning the yarn? Bit like the Samba stomach bug.
chris Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Maybe it was in fact Nelsen spinning the yarn? Bit like the Samba stomach bug. yeah don't worry Kean will will get away with it, he always does, lying pays in this world obviously, "Salgado is injuried Holiett will sign in 24 hours Someone spiked my beer with 40% vodka I didn't notice I've never drunk vokda in my life I receive 500 letters of support a week 99% of fans are behind what I'm trying to achieve here I still think we can get into the top 10 The owners have big plans I didn't see the plane, what did it say?"
Mercer Posted February 2, 2012 Author Posted February 2, 2012 From Setanta article: The 34-year-old has struggled with injury this season and hardly figured for Rovers but assistant boss Kevin Bond says the player is fit and raring to go and will be in the squad to face the Reds. "He is fit and eligible to play on Monday," Bond said of the situation. "I've just had a cup of tea with him in the canteen. He is looking forward to the challenge."
bob fleming Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 yeah don't worry Kean will will get away with it, he always does, lying pays in this world obviously, "Salgado is injuried Holiett will sign in 24 hours Someone spiked my beer with 40% vodka I didn't notice I've never drunk vokda in my life I receive 500 letters of support a week 99% of fans are behind what I'm trying to achieve here I still think we can get into the top 10 The owners have big plans I didn't see the plane, what did it say?" You see it's ths inaccurate reporting on sites such as this that plays into Keans hands. I don't like the guy as much as the next man but we do need to get the stats right. 500 Letters a DAY
tomphil Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Maybe it was in fact Nelsen spinning the yarn? Bit like the Samba stomach bug. Maybe you think Kean is mustard, Venkys are great owners and everything is going well ?
Mercer Posted February 2, 2012 Author Posted February 2, 2012 MattDunnExpressMatthew Dunn @ @CryerRovers Been "fit for weeks" according to Kevin Bond...
forumquizmaster Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Maybe you think Kean is mustard, Venkys are great owners and everything is going well ? Yes of course I do. Read what I actually wrote.
den Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 MattDunnExpressMatthew Dunn @ @CryerRovers Been "fit for weeks" according to Kevin Bond... That's an absolute disgrace. Looks like he's been forced out of the club due to, in all probability, his wages. Apparently Samba wont be in squad against Arsenal and the reporters at the presser aren't allowed to ask Kean questions about that. You would think the club were doing their best to get out of this division.
forumquizmaster Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 MattDunnExpressMatthew Dunn @ @CryerRovers Been "fit for weeks" according to Kevin Bond... "Fit and raring to go" was what Bond actually said apparently, which means something totally different. Cryer or someone should ask about Nelsen's fitness today. Either Kean has lied (again) or Nelsen has. Or he has Lazarus Syndrome.
