He's fairly strong and quick, decent touch and a good finisher. What I would say is that he needs to be played up front in a two. He doesn't have the skillset to hold the ball up on a consistent basis and bring others into play, but he can work very well alongside another forward. If he gets chances he will take them fairly regularly.

But how many weeks will it take him to attain the fitness required to accomplish that? With the Yak out we need someone to start scoring NOW.

Likely to be a flop then? Rovers don't have the midfield to play a 4-4-2.

He hasn't played much this year, but I would imagine that his fitness levels should be fairly high. He hasn't been entirely frozen out, throwing him in at the deep end may be a bit rough this weekend, but he's not one that we'll have to be patient with for weeks.

That is only ever said about poor players. Good players can play on their own, or they can adapt and find a role out wide.

I don't agree with that at all. He simply isn't the style of player who can regularly be successful if he is isolated for long parts of the game and he needs support around him to play off of and work with. IF our wide players stay high up the pitch and are on the spot for support then he could do well, but he isn't the type of player who we can just ping balls up to and ask him to hold the ball up while the rest of the team catches up.

It's a decent signing. I don't think he'll be the catalyst for a turnaround in our fortunes, but I would certainly rather have him in the side than Roberts. Bringing him in on a loan is slightly peculiar as he does strike me as more of a project signing, but I suppose with the Yakubu suspension we needed options quickly and this was obviously one that could be done quickly.

If this is a loan with a view to a permanent move then it could be interesting, a nice piece of business, but it will certainly be interesting to see how he does in England. Last year he looked a good player in Ligue 1 and Bordeaux fans were very happy with him as a replacement for Chamakh during the first 6 months of the season, he tailed off and eventually lost his place, but there is potential there.

could he play in a 2 with Yakubu ? or is he more suited to playing with a deeper player i.e Formica or Rochina?

He could play alongside either, but he was used up front by himself at Bordeaux for a bit and complained about it.

lets hope he turns out to be decent - also lets hope they dont make the same mistake as we did with jermaine jones and not agree a fee while on loan ..

According to SSN

The highly-rated 23-year-old arrives at Ewood Park on loan and his French employers have emphasised there is no option to buy.

Bordeaux paid Nice €3.5million for Modeste in August 2010, and although he has failed to make a huge impact at the Parc Lescure they still see a future for him at the club.
