braddock Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 sure you'll give him 9 months like Formica, Rochina and Petrovic because we really have time on our side. I imagine you were saying that last season.

pick32 Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 Don't think anyone was asking for 9 months but give the lad at least couple of weeks, if only we could sign established premiership players on a shoe string budget.
Backroom Tom Posted January 22, 2012 Backroom Posted January 22, 2012 sure you'll give him 9 months like Formica, Rochina and Petrovic because we really have time on our side. No just more than 15 minutes
Hughesy Posted January 23, 2012 Author Posted January 23, 2012 Looked awful when he came on. Had a great shot that hit the corner flag too. Half an hour and written off! In a game, where for the last 10-15 minutes we were under pressure, away from home! Pathetic!
FFP83 Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 People who dont like Modeste, who was Kean supposed to sign with no money? Yak is our main striker and we only play one up front so its quite hard to lure a player to a team in relegation zone, with a small wage budget and tell them they will be second or third choice (behind Goodwillie) Basically is Modeste better than Blackman, Slew and Roberts? My assumption is probably? Has he cost us big bucks? No. I know its not the glamour signing we all want but I think its a very sensible one. If we have any funds at all it should be spent on a right back or centre mid so im happy we havent wasted any on a striker
Drover Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Half an hour and written off! In a game, where for the last 10-15 minutes we were under pressure, away from home! Pathetic! Spot on. If people think they can assess him after that breif cameo when he's hardly been in the country that long let alone the team then to be frank, they're idiots.
Guest TheArtistFormallyKnownAsJB Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Spot on. If people think they can assess him after that breif cameo when he's hardly been in the country that long let alone the team then to be frank, they're idiots. Just highlighting the fact that too many people have the "he's rubbish" mentality built in..
Hekla Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Typical supporters who come out with the 'he's rubbish' after one or two games. I'm not expecting anything big from him but he needs a chance. It is only a loan deal so we just need to see how it works out.
braddock Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Hilarious to write him off. Do people remember Samba's first game? Think it was against Leyton Orient or maybe Luton. Abysmal.
dubdubdub Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Do people remember writing off JJones, Formica and Petrovic?
donnermeat Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Hilarious to write him off. Do people remember Samba's first game? Think it was against Leyton Orient or maybe Luton. Abysmal. Are you serious?? Think he only played 20 minutes or something didn't he? Don't remember the part where he was abysmal. Ooijer was terrible on his first game though he was up against Drogba. He turned out a very solid defender and good player imo.

donnermeat Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 He looked all legs and no coordination in his first appearance. We must have been watching different matches. I'm not saying he was amazing, but abysmal?? Definitely not.
BiggusLaddus Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Samba looked really clumsy in that cup match (think it was Luton). Completely missed the ball for one of his first clearances. Thankfully first impressions are not always right.

savage90 Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 Luton.. looked slow, sluggish and air-kicked from a corner!
FFP83 Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 It works both ways too. Some players start the honeymoon period at a new club on fire then go on to do nothing for that club, John Stead being the first one that springs to mind. I also seem to remember Patrick Berger scoring 5 goals in his fist two games for Liverpool? So if Modeste had scored a hat trick in first 30 mins of PL football it wouldnt mean hes a world beater (although it would be a very handy 3 points.)and him not having a huge impact doesnt mean hes a dud. You have to give players time especially when they are coming from abroad. Thierry Henry wasnt great in his first season over here and it turns out hes one of the best players the PL has ever seen. Petrovic looked AWFUL on his debut for us (I genuinely thought I could have played better for us) but now he is spraying 40 yard passes to feet and I think when hes got a bit more confidence he will start shooting/scoring from distance like we have seen him do on youtube. The one problem with Modeste is as Rovers fans we dont have much time left to wait for players to come good. The plus side is Yaks suspension is giving Goodwillie a well deserved run in the team
alexanders Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 Hilarious to write him off. Do people remember Samba's first game? Think it was against Leyton Orient or maybe Luton. Abysmal. What about Ooijer? Worst debut ever.
LeChuck Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 I thought Ooijer was pretty rubbish for most of his 3 years to be honest. The limitations that caused that horrendous debut (notably lack of pace and mobility) plagued him throughout his Rovers career.
47er Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 Do people remember writing off JJones, Formica and Petrovic? I think its rather that people knew we were in trouble and didn't have the time to allow players to settle in over a period of months. Not so much writing them off permanently but expressing frustration that they were not ready immediately. Jones took little time to win us over. Formica never has won me over really, I'm aware he is talented but a bit lightweight for me. Rochina has not done much. Petrovic is at last showing something but he was terrible until very recently and look where we are ----- in the bottom 3 and facing a hell of a fight. Lack of mid-field bite has been arguably our biggest weakness. Its actually the home-grown youngsters who've proved the best asset---Hanley, Lowe, Henley. Bunn when we needed him.
Oklahoma Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 Vamos! Isnt that spanish? Yes. And portuguese as well.
koi Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 What about Ooijer? Worst debut ever. Think Gary Flitcroft can claim to have the worst Rovers debut ever! How many minutes was it? three I think?
dingles staying down 4ever Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 Think Gary Flitcroft can claim to have the worst Rovers debut ever! How many minutes was it? three I think? But he was man of the match until that point!
braddock Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 Think Gary Flitcroft can claim to have the worst Rovers debut ever! How many minutes was it? three I think? Probably just beats Basturk's first half cameo at Wolves. At least Flitcroft got involved.
magicalmortensleftpeg Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 Chimbonda was great on his debut... Petrovic finally coming good has really seen a lift in recent performances. Its almost like a new signing in itself. At least Modeste gives us a reasonable option. The less Roberts is involved the better.
