I dont think anybody is making out he was the second coming. but his passing has been quality since he came he just wasnt able to impose himself on the games he played. But he now looks like he is getting up to speed and his peformances of late have been good.

There was never any doubt the lad had talent it is more a question of if he can make it and I think he can.

People also (as usual) wrote off hanley people on here having a right teary when he kept getting picked at the start of the season and he did have some bad perfomances but he is only young. Recently he has shown his abilty and has been solid for us.

So what exactly are you moaning about? moaning for moanings sake?

i dont think his passing is that great, he has a couple of decent games lately, if hes still playing ok by the end of the season then people can start to big him up then.

Really? I think passing is the best part of his game nobody in our squad can spray accurate passes around like he does. His short passing does get caught out at times but that is probably down to not being used to the speed. Thats not his fault thats more keans fault for not bringing in players who can hit the ground running.

I suspect if we do bring in a midfielder this window he will also "need time" so we will have to hope petrovic keeps improving, I dont think personally that petrovic and n'zonzi are ideal partners I could be proved wrong. I think in an ideal world it would be him or n'zonzi with a midfeilder enforcer in the jermain jones mold.

Petrovic kept playing the same diagonal ball to Olsson against Everton, landing at his feet every time. Really lovely spray of passes from the lad.

Another way of looking at that is...playing Olsson in his natural position of left back allows the rest of the team to play well. :)

Petrovic has played a little better over the last two games i will give him credit for that as i was giving him some stick amongst my group of mates.

Then i realised it was Kean who had made me judge him unfairly stating he was a "box to box midfielder with a great engine, great pass and scores goals too" - i honestly do not believe Kean had seen him play before or he had, he had been watching the same Youtube clip as myself.

This is a REALLY boring transfer window for all clubs to be honest, it is mainly about holding onto players but we need a couple of extra bodies that can actually hit the ground running.

My tips would be:

Darren Ambrose (Purchase)

Fabio (Loan)

Jay Spearing (Loan)

Modeste (Loan)

There's no way Liverpool would loan out spearing with Lucas injured.

If we got sutter plus a decent cm in without losing anyone major (realise samba is now a difficult issue as to keep or sell) then considering the finances it won't have been that bad a window. I'm sure some people will disagree though.

Lots of effort, but can't finish. Which striker just left our club with a similar description?

I wouldn't mind if he was a permanent purchase as he looks like he has potential (possibly being retrained in a position that doesn't involve being the main scorer, as he's very poor in front of goal) but it's a 6 month loan. Not sure where the sense is in loaning a striker who can't score.

I think he did ok, very good until he Snatched at a couple of chances, won a penalty as well.

He may have had a bad day in front of goal or it may be how he is in general I don't know yet but his overall game was good.

I thought he did well at the exclusion of the most important thing- his shooting (and composure) was awful. That could be due to a lack of first team football and eagerness to impress or it could be the reason why he was a reserve at Bordeaux.

Not good enough to be a lone striker on the evidence of tonight. Not because of a lack of endeavour, strength or skill but because he can't strike the ball. Big shame.

I know 'if onlys' are easy but I do wish he had been given the penalty to take. If he had put it away it might have settled him. Or more likely I suppose he might have taken it Roberts-styley and tripped over his own feet.

I didn't envy him being thrown up front on his own in 4-5-1 first game. Hard to impress when no one around you. I'd like to see Kean pair him up with Yak in a 4-4-2. Maybe he could be useful engineering some chances with Yak there to help finish.

Seeing as Kean refuses to put Rochina up there with Yak for some inexplicable reason maybe he'll think about it.

Why the obsession with 4-4-2? The Yak has scored a lot in 4-5-1.

For all your sympathy with Modeste tonight playing a lone role, he could have had a bagful. It wasn't the system that prevented him scoring, it was his own finishing ability. He got plenty of support from Dunn and Hoilett.

There's a good reason Rochina doesn't play with Yakubu; Rochina is crap. He'd be the worst strike partner imaginable, I can't imagine the Yak would score many with Rochina constantly losing the ball all the time by dribbling into dead ends.

Fair call - but don't you think that some sort of shake up is needed ? I mean look where we are on the table?

Sure, Yak is scoring some - but 4 of them were in one game, and some from penalties. And to take 3 points, a team has to score more than the opposition. With no chance of our back line improving now that the window has shut, we need to score even more to keep ahead. I wouldn't go so far as to call Rochina 'crap', but everyone has their opinions I guess.

What I do know is that sticking with the current plan and tactics will most likely see us relegated. We're stuck with the squad. Mix it up a bit and see what happens !

I agree... the system had nothing to do with Modeste not scoring. He fluffed every chance he had, and was sometimes so slow to react to being through the defenders caught him up before he even got the chance to shoot.

He's barely had any time to settle and has come on loan from an inferior league... but it's not like he played badly. He was a handful for the defenders and had a number of chances. His problems seem to stem from a lack of natural finishing ability... something we badly need as Yak seems to be our only player with any kind of finishing instinct. Formica sometimes looks like he does but the chance he missed last night was laughable.

I thought the lad played ok last night. He has a good first touch and his movement was good to be in the positions to get a bog full but I think he was like any new striker for a team. He wanted to impress and maybe a little bit more composure and an extra touch and he could have easily has a ht trick last night

Cisse scored on his QPR debut last night - it's what a good player does.

There's a reason Modeste is cheap and a reason he is at a penniless and doomed club - he isn't very good.

Well he isn't a striker.

Correct. I think he is even less suited to that role as Goodwillie... but it's close. The pair of em make Jason Roberts look dangerous. Can't think why we signed either of them unless it's simply Dastardly and Muttley's last spoonful off the gravy train as it heads for the buffers I'd suggest Paul. <_<

What a scam it's been! Clever bloke Dastardly or is evil genius a better title? Just wish I'd thought of it.
