yoda Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 Well the media and Kean keep telling us that the players are behind him, OK so why are key players asking to leave and how many more want to join the bandwagon and why? Question to Venkys and Kean

Guest Rovers4Good Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 I think most of them want to get out of the situation they're in but as for backing Kean think that's a minority for sure There's only really Dunn, Yak and maybe the younger lads who think he's alright but as for the others i'm sure when he's doing his teamtalk they'll be well and truely switched off.
alexanders Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 The only thing which matters for me is that they seem to be behind Kean on the pitch. Everything is irrelevant and I will not pay too much attention to what the media writes.
Mattyblue Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 I have been impressed with the attitude of the players, if that is down to Kean, professional pride or the exuberance of youth, I've no idea.
jannerman Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 Behind Kean or behind Blackburn Rovers? Even if they're not all fans they surely would have some pride in playing for the club?
LeChuck Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 Most of the players obviously like Kean and he seems to have developed a good team spirit. You only have to look at the togetherness displayed against Man Utd, Liverpool and Fulham to see this. With the goings-on at the club (especially the treatment of Salgado/Roberts) then some are obviously going to be discontent, but the whole it's about the only positive thing I can give to Kean over his reign. It's the one thing that gives me hope in this situation - if Eric Black can cover his tactical shortcomings then we might have a chance.

philipl Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 The players are professional but to suggest that they are united behind Steve Kean is a huge distance from the truth. I posted long before Christmas that I could see no way that Samba would still be with us by the end of the window and that was because of the open rift between manager and skipper. Interesting that one of the relatively few Kean loyalists- Jason Roberts- is being frozen out by the sick state of the Ewood finnces. One of the problems Kean has is that everyone including the players know there is a horrible problem of mismanagement by the club's ownership but that Kean is part of the concerted balls up and cannot speak out as a result.
Ricky Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 Did you not watch the match on Saturday?? I'm pretty sure the team showed that they are behind the manager. They could have crumbled after losing a man so early on but they dug in and got a vital win.

Torgeir Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 Did you not watch the match on Saturday?? I'm pretty sure the team showed that they are behind the manager. They could have crumbled after losing a man so early on but they dug in and got a vital win. Unsure if the players are fighting for their own Premier League status or for the manager. We have some decent earners and I don't think players like Dunn and MGP would get another good contract elsewhere with ease. Either way I have seen no signes that the players are not playing for the manager, but the fact that Samba now wants out (again) clearly indicates that he does not care too much for Mr. Kean.
Mercer Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 I have seen teams doomed for relegation, including past Rovers' teams, where clearly they are not behind the manager and there is little respect. Today's situation is not a clear one because on the field, it could be construed, that there are no frequent and obvious signs that they are not behind Kean. However, I think given the make-up of our side including relatively young lads and also some genuine lads (like Robbo), I think any lack of respect for the manager can be more than offset by both professional pride and feeling for the club. Many of us have heard and read speculation that a good number can't stand Kean. I think sometimes it's necessary to look at the more subtle signs for example at half time and in particular full time. Just keep your eye on both Robbo & MGP.
Andy Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 The majority of the senior players are not, and have never been, behind Kean. These are being phased out and/or sold (Salgado/Nelsen/Jones/Samba/maybe Robbo). However, I think it's clear that the young lads are grateful to him for giving them their chance - Lowe, Henley and co.
Rover_Shaun Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 There are plenty of people I cannot stand at work but I still get on with it. Beating a diabolical Fulham and Swansea side at home cannot be construed as supporting a manager

It would give your other posts about Venky's/Kean far more validity if you would offer some praise where it is due. Samba is been wanting to leave for the last four transfer windows, that wasn't really much of a prediction you made there! It is pretty obvious when a group of players stop playing for a manager. There is no way we are at that point, the players (at least the ones that make it onto the pitch) are obviously with him. Beating a diabolical Fulham and Swansea side at home cannot be construed as supporting a manager No, but the attitude and commitment certainly can. The team spirit has been there for all to see recently.
McClarky Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 MGP was just on SSN being interviewed by Jim "Smooth as Silk" White at the training ground. He was obviously reluctant to rise to White's questions about how the players were behind the manager and owners and went for the "all in this together" approach which he went out of his way to stress includes the fans. White is obviouly towing the pro kean and Venkys SSN line but interesting how MGP didn't give the ringing endorsement expected of him. Good on yer lad!

That does nothing to disprove that the majority of them are behind him. I'd put it down to Kean's popularity as a coach, coupled perhaps with the siege mentality created by the protests etc.
onlyonejackwalker Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 Players back their manager and respond to his management? P-21 W-4 D-5 L-12 Yeah and coupled with 8 home losses I think it is pretty easy to work out just how much our players are behind the manager.
den Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 and if all the players are behind Kean, it matters in which way?
Amo Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 and if all the players are behind Kean, it matters in which way? It doesn't, Den. If anything, it makes Kean look even more incompetent.
Colt Seavers Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 Players back their manager and respond to his management? P-21 W-4 D-5 L-12 You make an accurate point but I have detected a definite upswing over recent weeks. Kean himself has, in my opinion learnt a lot lately and I feel that he is beginning to (finally) get a grip. We can quote the stats until we are blue in the face but generally, the last four league games have shown an improvement in tactics and substitutions. I wrote my preferred team before the Fulham game and it contained only five of the starting line up! I didn't include Peds or Dunn- two goalscorers. I was wrong and Kean was right. Lets get behind him; he ain't getting the sack, lets deal with it.
thebigguy Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 Its a typical thing transfer window opens and if you want out you best be playing your best otherwise you might not get a call for a move. Also got lucky that the teams we have drawn/won have not played to there bests

I still remember Harford when he was manager - just at the point I felt he was getting to grips with the job and the differing demands (especially media) - he left !
