BBCLancashire
Hello all This is Andy Bayes here from Radio Lancashire, just wanted to ask if any of you are involved in football teams whether this would be of interest. I am part of a committee that's organising a charity 5-a-side tournament for Friday 4 May at The JJB in Shadsworth starting at 4 in aid of the Denise Hendry Foundation. You may have been part of it before, different fans branches enter....it's organised by Simon Gray from the Northern Ireland supporters branch. We need 20 teams to enter a 5 a side team (preferably with 7 players) so you can roll on and roll off. Kevin Gallacher is also part of the committee and we are getting a number of former players from the last twenty years to make an appearance, and in some cases manage teams, or make a guest appearance in your side. The competition will be based over a league basis, followed by a semi final and final. The ex-players will also take part in an exhibition match. Once the football is finished with, there will be a buffet, raffle and a Question & Answer session with the players who include, of course Colin Hendry and Kevin Gallacher. We already have a number of teams interested but I want to throw it open to Rovers fans to enter their side. The important info is Cost - £105 per team (£15 per head) - This includes buffet after competition. Competition kicks off - 4pm (so take the afternoon off!) If you would like more information please email me at andy.bayes@bbc.co.uk or on twitter I'm @AndyBayes If you can support the event - please do. Cheers Andy

rover_groo
In relation to the above, We've been working hard behind the scenes selecting a date, booking pitches, contacting former players, where we will be raising funds for the 'Denise Hendry Foundation', this season. For those who are unaware, in the past 5 years the supporters have raised money for Scope, Jason Roberts Foundation and also the Former Players Association raising in excess of £3,000 from profits. We all know that Denise is the late wife of the former Rovers Legend Colin Hendry and it is only apt that we support the Hendry family, especially all the hard work Colin's daughter Rheagan has put into the Foundation in memory of her mother. All profits raised from the 5 a-side event will go directly to the Foundation and details of the competition has been set for the following: - Date: - Saturday 5th May 2012 Location: - Lucozade PowerLeague Soccerdome, Blackburn Time: - Teams to meet at 1330 hours for introduction & registration, then kick-off for 1430 hours. At this moment, we are anticipating to have around 12-14 teams entering this event, which will be a group stage with about 6 teams/group, which will lead into the quarter finals, semi finals and final, where the winners will take on a select team of former Rovers' players. For the first time, the event is going to hold competition for the ladies and we've had interest for a few teams. To register your interest then please visit the following Facebook link: - When you visit this link, then please enter your team name, followed by team captain. We're finalising a few finer points and once this has been confirmed then we'll release the price and payment details, list of some of the former players who are playing and the prizes which will be up for grabs. If you have any queries or indeed suggestions, then please do not hesitate to mention this below or indeed on the Event page. Hi Andy Great idea. Can people come and watch (and donate)? I'm not sure if Andy has responded to you. There will be no problem if you want to just watch the event, as you will have the chance to meet some of the former players and see them in action. Again if you want to donate to such a worthy cause, then you can buy raffle tickets on the day. Alternatively, if you are unable to enter a team, but want to play, then I'm sure there will be a team or two who will be looking for players. Im pretty sure BRSCN will take part this year also. Hopefully I will be able to join even though its in the final stages of my thesis and exams. Played a part two times before, had a blast both times. I stronly recommend it and its for a good cause! Thanks Gogger. You forgot to mention that the N.Ireland branch beat you on both occasions you played. Hope you make it over for this season's event.
