Audax Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 I trimmed down my original post, I'm just wondering if some winter sports are just pushing it too much. The new kid in town is this "Crashed Ice Skating" racing and yes, it's like skating down a road of a sheet of ice going downhill. All skating I've ever seen is always on a flat surface so this is really decent. Here's a picture and I know this must be an "extreme sport". Today's extreme sports are often tomorrow's Olympic sports and I don't quite always agree with that. Though, until I hear about someone breaking their neck doing this crashed ice skating, it is rather intriguing. I made this thread more generalised so any winter sport can be discussed. Of course, all sport, action sport at least has a degree of risk. I quite enjoy a lot of winter sport including curling. Here is a website with more info in it: http://www.redbull.com/cs/Satellite/en_INT/Red-Bull-Crashed-Ice/001242785030624 Should have been in the initial post.

andyrover Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Well worth watching the winter x games which is on espn at the mo,the things they do on boards, skis and ski mobiles is insane,,RIP Sarah Burke
cn174 Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 I love this time of the year when Eurosport has random winter sports on all the time - bobsleigh is still my favourite though it seems tame to some other sports now. In the winter olympics I loved the skicross which was new - and my friend who doesn't like sport at all even got into it. My other reason I think for liking winter sports is that (with the exception of curling) we never have to get our hopes up and support the British team out of duty cos we're never in the things to begin with!

I must admit to liking the Ski-jumping,i`m always fascinated by how they can stay in the air for so long whilst maintaining their balance and then land perfectly. Definitely a sport where panicking is not an option!
jim mk2 Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Looking forward to my forthcoming skiing holiday and even at my age I still cannot wait to get out there on the slopes. Extreme winter sports are out of the question however; finishing the week safely with all joints intact is fine by me.
Kiwiwannabe Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 While I am most definately a non-skier, I do love watching the winter sports. Can't say I've come across the skating mentioned in the first post, but I'm excited about my trip to Germany in a couple of weeks. Father Christmas very kindly bought me tickets to watch the ski flying in Obersdorf. I have watched it over the years on TV, but can't wait for me first taste of watching this sport live. German beer, bratwurst and some gravity defying sport..... What more can you want?!
cn174 Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Was Skicross the thing with the wu tang? Aye it was, right at the beginning.
