BRFC1995
i assumed he "suprisingly" came here over the other clubs he was linked with because we are paying him a hell of a lot of money. Pure guesswork assumptions and fabriction but would the general concensus be are wage pyramid goes something as follows 1.Samba 50K+ per week and can't currently be picked 2.Pedersen 45K+ per week for a very bog standard player 3.Givet 40K per week 4 match ban on the way 4.Dann 40K per week and a liability 5.Salgado 40K per week and can't currently be selected 6.Robinson 40K per week way too much money for a goalie at our level, no brad 7.Yakubu 40K per week currently suspended and history says his form dies annually after christmas 8.Dunn 35K per week for a player made of glass(and pies) 9.30K per week virtuall every other player signed as that seems to be the PL average these days. I'd be staggered if Dann was'nt undeservedly earning those sort of figures.

LeChuck
He's awful. He doesn't have any of natural attributes you would expect from a centre back; slow, not great in the air, not aggressive, not physically strong... Waste of money. Only upside is he's young and that gives us the opportunity to claw money back if he leaves, like Kalinic.

all you need is duff
Not a very aggressive or decisive defender which means he must be a composed, ball playing defender but he doesn't seem to be that either. Really confused as to how he had so many plaudits at Coventry and Birmingham.

Parsonblue
Nelsen on one leg offers more than this poor excuse for a centre-back at the moment. Birmingham must have been laughing all the way to the bank when we paid what we did for this guy. He may come good but thus far he has been a huge disappointment. At the moment he is not good enough for the first team.
Bing
He is terrible. I fail to see what he brings to the team. Paul Merson may have been spot on when he shipped him out from Walsall to Redditch....before they sent him back!
purplegrover
He's a journeyman that some smark cookie managed to talk up into something he's not, and was purchased by a clueless manager based on someones spin. He did look better at Brum than he has played for us, but I'd venture to say (without defending his playing) that without the flashes of individual brilliance from our occasional handful of good players, it would in fact be bloody hard for anyone to look good in the current squad. Still, I'm sure he's a good guy, but yes, we paid far too much for him it would appear. Then again, if he is championship standard, and seeing as that's where we are clearly heading, he may be useful next year. Given that we will have by then lost the handful of players that are capable of cutting the mustard in the big leagues.
bluebruce
No point thinking about how he would be in the championship- if we go down he will be off.

Gav
I think the criticism of Dann is a little over the top, yes he's looked shaky, but so have the defence as a whole. He’s been injured, never had a settled partner and Kean has no tactical awareness whatsoever which leaves the defence exposed time and time again. Puffsan
He makes mistakes you shouldnt do as a footballer. For the price we paid for him we should expect more. It looks to me that he lacks football instinct. In many situations you only have a split second to do the right thing, he keeps doing the wrong thing over and over again
Amo
Can anyone actually verify that it's the REAL Scott Dann? Could be JA's nephew who used to work at Kwik Fit for all we know.
Stuart
I'd actually like to see Dann - and many others of our players - playing for a proper manager. I bet Sunderland fans had written off many of their players under Bruce. Look at them now.
bluebruce
Dann seems to lack all the raw attributes to be a good centre half is the problem- pace, strength, awareness, aerial ability (defensively...offensively he seems ok in the air, oddly), tackling. You generally need at least one of these to be convincing to be a prem centre half. Mind you, many of us thought the same about Hanley until he hit form, so maybe, just maybe, it will change. Suppose fitness might be hampering his pace and nerves/poor management/instability/not having settled yet be affecting his decisions. But let's face it, there's been precious little glimmer of hope from him so far.
USABlue
I think Dann is below average, Hanley must be wondering who he has to blow to get a game ahead of this joker. The youngster was playing so well too.
Veevs
Agree with Stuart here.. I personally reckon this is more down to Kean than anything the lack of a real leader on the pitch (captain won't play and club captain has been flogged), our defensive tactics (which don't exist, unless you count playing the offside trap with every player moving at a diff time), no cover from midfield, no cover on the flanks, no settled defensive partner, team morale, form (0 clean sheets in 31 games, 2.25goals against per game average and 5 more goals let in than the second worse defense so far this season), two of the most influential players in the squad obviously unhappy (probably more who have not spoken out), a winger as one full back and a midfielder as the other and very few players who seem to give a monkeys.. hell we have pretty much dumped any players who have any passion and/or bite Emerton, Nelsen, Diouf, Andrews, Jermaine Jones, Phil Jones.. davulsukur
Kean cannot organise a back 4 to save his life, chuck in the poor defensive organisation of our midfield and most of our defenders will suffer. Had we singed Scott Dann under Allardyce, we'd probalby calling him to get an England cap! Saying that tho, even with Keans shambolic management, he looks by far our worst CB. No one looked like wrestling that off Hanley a few months back.
Clitherover
I can't believe I got excited about this guy on transfer deadline day, by far the worst centre back I've seen in a Rovers shirt for a long time. We need Samba back in the team as soon as possible regardless of how much of a knob he has been in the last few weeks.
BRFC1995
thinking back there was a spell of about 6 months when zurab got a decent run in the team 5 or 6 years ago and never did a thing wrong playing alongside nelsen...then for whatever reason probably signing samba his career fizzled out here. Thinking back to that time and given he still can't be that old i'd have zurab back in a shot over Dann, Zurab was'nt going to get in ahead of nelsen and samba in thier prime and i guess match practise and confidence goes when you can't get in the side but regardless of where his career has gone since he has experience of doing well here and that is something that just seems so unlikely for Dann. Hendry, Nelsen, Samba, Berg, real top draw defenders will live long in the memory ...then there are the solid not spectacular but fondly remembered defenders Gale, Pearce, Moran, Khiz, and then we remove the bottom of the barrel and start digging for the likes of Amoruso, Peacock, and unless a miracle happens Dann (£8m??wow)

Mattyblue
'The fans have been protesting against the owners and the manager rather than the players," said Dann. "You just have to shut it out of your mind, but it hasn't affected us as much as people think and in the last four or five weeks - especially since we won at Manchester United with a really young team - the fans have really been getting behind us. I hope they can do that until the end of the season and that we can stay up." ' Good lad.
