Adrian Mutu had to pay Chelsea £14m (the remainder of his contract) after being sacked for breach of contract. Would something similar apply here?

I know virtually nothing of employment law but he surely can't just refuse to train/play.

Where's he been anyway? .... African Cup jobby I'd wager.

btw Can anybody imagine the trees cut down across scandanavia to make newsprint if it had been Terry / Rio F / Skirtel or Lescott refusing to play for their team? If there was ever a signal that we don't 'belong' in the Premier league this is it.

Thats a bit of a tentative link theno, the amount of press determines if you should be in the PL.:D

I thought it was the amount of points at the end of the season, which may not be enough this time.

That will not stop coco spinning it in India though

Seems we are no nearer :

IMO, totally incompetent management from owners and Ewood management. This has been going on for 2 months now and should have been sorted one way or the other weeks ago.

I said at the time that a player's worth is decided by the market - simple supply and demand. Samba is worth no more than say £7m. Will also cost us £1.5m in wages until summer for feck all.

Couldn't agree more. The Sky Sports News ticker would be working over time. The tabloids and the broadsheets would be crammed with 'inside sources' stories. Look at the amount of coverage there has been for Chelsea the other night just because Lampard and Cole were on the bench! This is the captain of a Premier League club refusing to play and there hasn't been a dicky bird.

As much as it pains me to say it, they are big name clubs with a large and (in Man. City's case), exponentially growing fanbase. No one gives two sh*ts about little old Blackburn Rovers, unless it's to slag us off for our barbaric treatment of the Shiny Headed One.

There is a maximum fine agreed with the PFA of 2 weeks wages. However surely as this is breach of contract then we can not pay him as he is offering no service, and take him to court. He has to honour the contract as anyone does. If you paid a contractor to deliver and he renenged you would be allowed to sue not only for breach of contract but also costs and loss of earnings. If we get relegated with Samba refusing to play in a majority of games we could put forward a case for Samba to be responsbile for some of the loss of earnings resulting from being out of the prem. It could potentially cost him millions of pounds. And could also severely damage his reputation and mean he would find it hard to progress his career.Legally it all seems quite plausible and effective. But then on the other hand do you want this to dominate the focus of the club while we are trying to stay in the league, and also potentially totally rupture the playing staff at the club? Also such action will inevitably lover the value that other clubs will pay for him. And it would take months if not years for the legal battle to be resolved. We're in an awful situation here unless Samba decides he might as well play

i would love it, if clubs started playing hardball and used this suggestion. ever since bosman, the power have switche from one extreme to another. Perhaps taking these kind of actions, could balance the power between clubs and players a bit more.

Could it be possible that if Kean and the consortium had sold Samba in january, that money collected would have gone straight to Barclays bank, where as come the summer there will be a lot more leeway when this money collected from Samba could go straight into the pockets of the owners and not the banks.

I still think coco stopped the sale of Samba to save his neck, the Rao's may have used the proceeds to pay him off

I am glad you are not running our club we'd be broke in 2 mins he has just signed a new 3 year contract whoever buys him has to include that in the price one of the best defenders in the league in both box can play as a striker the time of year is January a players value inflates as teams are desperate to either avoid relagation or trying to get into Europe a classic example Arshavin came to Arsenal in January 14M,Cahill to Chelsea 17M 2 classic examples of players overpriced in January coming to the premiership & another move between prem clubs both prem both had a massive premium on their head at the very least Samba is worth 10-12M with it being january 15M is the max and I applaud Venkys for that and Samba knew when we made such a fuss about Jones and getting 17M they were not likely to be bullied by Samba or his agents and i do believe this is right players have too much power nowadays it's about time the balance of power shifted and clubs stood up to these mercenaries.

Samba to Anzi-12 million according to Keys and Gray on twitter.

That doesn't surprise one bit!

Samba is unhappy and doesn't want to play for Rovers!!!

12 million pounds is a good deal for us but the MAJOR problem is we can't get a replacement in unless it is out of contract player.

Its good and bad as we could be getting good money for a player who does not want to play for us anymore but we cant get a replacment and prob wont see any of the money from the sale, prob pay off barclays bank and venkys back pocket.

Is there anything more to this than just a TalkSh1te-type rumour?

£12m for Samba in January would have been good business. £12m now is of no use to the team. Two possible benefits might be; an improvement in squad morale and, more importantly, potentially affecting Venkys' position regarding selling the club?
