[Archived] Samba Up to His Old Tricks Again

I would let him have a new contract, and name his own price but it would be on £10,000 a week and 10% of his sell on price and see what fee he agrees.

Yeah. I'm guessing he wouldn't go for that.

Nor would we want him to. When he names his own contract release clause of £1, I'm guessing, he'll be having the last laugh.

Disgrace.

I hope he doesn't pull on the sacred shirt again. This is a shirt that should be worn with passion and pride and never say die attitude.

Regardless of who they are or what they've done (Venkys) WE as in US, THE FANS (fan is abbreviation of fanatic by the way), deserve better than overpaid prima donnas pulling a sicky and refusing to play.

Is disgusting and shows a lack of class and respect.

This has little to do with Venkys by the way...I seem to remember a similar strop under BFS.

If he is getting his wage, is fit and deemed required he should be playing without exception. He is a professional sportsman bound by contract to play for BRFC.If the club is in doodah with regards to results it is his responsibility as a paid player and the first team captain to help get us out of the muck.Every other factor should be secondary to him.

Totally agree, otherwise what is the point of having contracts at all?

Kean bullsh1tting and inventing injuries of players for a change....Shock.

In all seriousness though, fair enough he wants to leave- but why on earth sign a 5 year contract just 12 months previously with no intention of honouring it?

Hang on a minute. Hold up. He's injured don't forget, Kean told us. Hamstring. However he will be fit for the reserves on Monday.

Salgado has been injured, as has Nelsen. Kean told us. The fact that the club are treating players, players who were quite happy to sign extended contracts round about this time last year, like crap, shouldn't be forgotten. Why is this? Why are they all being frozen out or given away?

Club Captain and the Team Captain have been frozen out. Samba is not up for selection. End of story. Go and train with the reserves with Michel, Nelsen and Keef. How would you feel, 5 years in or whatever it is?

You work for a liar, a bullshiitter. A diversive inadequate football manager. Self serving, clandestine, manipulator. That's our manager. You seek a move, can't stand to watch what is unfolding at the club you have served, along with Nelsen, with such distinction over the last few years. Again how would you feel about how Nelsen was treated if you were in Sambas size 15's?

I don't understand it. Sure 60k is nice, but my life wouldn't change that much if you doubled my wages if I was earning that a week at QPR or Spurs etc. Maybe Samba is just as sick of it all as we are? Maybe I'm just playing devils advocate. Maybe he wants to win things and sees feck all chance of that at Rovers with these idiots running the show?

Either way I don't think it's as simple as people are making out. With the players they've let go and the absurd belief in Kean, anyone would think they want us to get relegated.

Objection, your honour, conjecture.

Furthermore I doubt money has anything to do with it. He's already earned enough to satisfy all his material desires, including his Rolls Royces and I doubt whether anyone would pay him more than he gets already.

Like us, he's probably sick of being lied to and sick of working for a bunch of incompetents. Maybe he's not too pleased to see how his fellow players have been treated by the club either.

Come off it Bob, Salgado (worst performer of the season by some distance - which takes quite some doing this season) Nelsen (on huge wages and hasn't kicked a ball all season) and Jason (4 League goals a season) Roberts + Super Keef.

I'd say it was an extremely positive move shifting all that deadwood off the wage bill, likewise if someone has finally woken up to the blindingly obvious fact that handing out contracts which say you can have another year if you complete say ten games a season is little short of lunacy.

The one player the owners have put their foot down on not selling is our best player and most saleable asset who isn't very much the wrong side of the hill and imo they are to be commended for that at least albeit not for anything much else.

Just seen the story in the Sun which alleges that Samba won't play unless he is allowed to sign a new contract with a "get out" clause.

If I was Samba and his advisors I wouldn't be at all happy with this story breaking - it's a clear admission he's in breach of contract. He's under contract NOW to play for the Club without any release clause.

If the latest Sun story is true the Club have two choices. The player is flagrantly in breach of his contract so we can fine him, stop his wages and make him train on his own such time as he until he agrees to make himself available for selection. Alternatively we could accede to his demands, let him sign a new contract, try to get what we can out of him for the remainder of the season, and then lose him in summer, probably for a relative pittance.

As much as it might harm our survival chances I'd be swayed towards the former option. The principle of the matter is so important it over-rides Samba and what happens for the rest of this season. You might as well tell the rest of the squad to rip up their contracts and turn up to play whenever they feel like it.

Salgado - not his best season by any means. But what a way to treat the guy. The way the team is set up doesn't help his or our cause with a lack of cover for the fullbacks. Injured apparently. Not.

Nelsen - not injured straight into the Spurs squad. Would have been invaluable.

Roberts and Keef - replaced by Goodwillie and Petrovic. The same pretty much, but far less experience and pointing ability.

The big one though? Emerton. Frivolously allowed to leave. Would have done a great job anywhere on the right for us. But no, allowed to leave so we can bring in Simon, at a guess, and not even play him.

As for the contracts lunacy. Have I missed something here?! Who handed out these new super contracts out in the first place? Kean and his special Brockhall dwelling buddy wasn't it? These must be the kind of daft ideas you get though when you bring someone in who works for free.

As for keeping Samba. Well he's an asset they can now sell in the summer, no point selling them all in January is there? "Yes available for selection, but no, he's not available", smashing. Let's hope Kean is able to use his world famous tact and diplomacy skills on Chris and talk him round because at the moment they might as well be paying me 60k a week (and with my back that would be a waste of money).

Some good point Rev.

In the contracts thing though, how does (did) a club like Rovers attract certain types of players without offering these types of contract.

Also, you say playing a certain number of games = additional year's contract = lunacy.

On the contrary, performance based contracts are a great idea. The fact that players are incentivised to do well, endorsed by the manager picking them is exactly what we want.

The problems arise when you lose strength in depth of the squad and have no competition for places. Our squad strength must be the lowest it's ever been.

The real issue now is that we have no leaders in the squad. At Arsenal last season we had Nelsen, Samba, the Jones' boys, Emerton and Salgado. Now for all their their failings they are very strong characters and have strong leadership qualities. On Saturday the basic problem for me was that the whole team 'melted', primarily due to a lack of character in my opinion. Heads drop too quickly and we don't have a 'tub thumper' who will rattle a few cages (and I certainly include the imposter in this). I'm all for getting rid of players who don't offer much to the squad but we haven't gone anywhere near replacing any of these players. For me the one thing that has kept us punching above our weight has been the unity and characters within the squad. Apart from Givet and Samba we don't have anybody who can step up to the plate.

And that, for me is the main reason why we will struggle to get more than 25 points this season.

What we've ended up mwith is less players on more money. Not exactly a master-stroke.

Can't agree with that Rev, Salgado has been treated disgracefully by the club in the middle of a defensive injury crisis, same with Nelson who has allegedly been fit since the end of November. These 2 players alone are exactly what we need in the current crisis, experience, heart on sleeve stuff, but no we freeze them out and lie to the fans about it.

Pathetic

All 4 offered very little.

With Samba we need to agree to something and move on. But price can't be anything less than £10m.

The problem with treating players like we have recently is that we gain a pretty dire reputation. Basically, what we are saying is that we are quite happy to treat you like dirt once we think you are too expensive for us or you have served your usefulness. So we beg Ryan Nelsen, a wonderful servant to the club, to play against Villa when not fit and then treat him like dirt a few months latter. I suppose it fits in well with the way the club is being run these days but personally I think it's another reason why this club is in the gutter and why so many supporters are now turning their back on the club.

I have some sympathy for Kean - this is one that is difficult to win. Bottom line, he has to somehow get Samba focused again on playing as we can't afford a player of his quality on the sidelines. IMO he is playing this softly softly in the hope of pursuading Samba to start playing again. I don't know Samba as a person - but he doesn't strike me as being the type to be bullied into doing something - so possibly Kean has the right idea ?

For me there is one very important distinction - Samba can make himself available for selection - but whether he puts in the type of committed performance that has become his trade mark is down to him. Being a little slow to get back, block a player or put your head in where it hurts could cost us points IF he isn't 100%

Feel sorry for Kean? Good grief.

Previously any major differences between manager and player would have been dealt with by JW or possibly TF. He/they would have talked to both parties and more times than not come up with a compromise or solution. What we have here though, is a jumped up coach riding roughshod over everyone else at the club. He knew what he was taking on from the very beginning and he has the means to change that if he wants to.

Kean should be answering to a chairman.

He doesn't want to change anything does he? He wants full control. Wonder how that came to be?
