EwoodGlory
Just seen a twitter rumour (I know, I know!) that Chelsea could be getting a visit from HMRC soon because of paying money into offshore accounts.... The person who said that, said a few days ago that blackburn could be the "english rangers "

m1st
My head hurts when I try to get it round all the issues involved in the finances of Premier League clubs. And the implications for the club we all love. However, these: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/feb/17/craig-whyte-rangers-owner-scrutiny http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2012/feb/17/scotland-media-rangers might make sense to those of you who are more clued up than I am. thenodrog
How come so many alleged crooks and criminals are allowed into football. Who the hell is regulating this!!!! Crooks and criminals.... who just haven't been caught yet. It's a good do this. I'm loving it cos I haven't forgive Rangers, Murray, Souness and all interested parties for the 'Blackburn Sting' yet re: Ferguson and Amoruso! If somehow Celtic managed to go tits up too then the Scottish Prem might be worth watching for the first time ever. It's been a complete drawn out yawn for time immemorial and incredibly the CL format has been allowed and assisted to replicate it across the entire continent. Another good thing is that at least those two will never get to play down here in the forseeable future.

Just watching Aberdeen v St Johnstone. Grim. The swathes of empty seats are a reminder of what Ewood will be like in the next couple of years. Good for kids learning the game though. You can hear every word the players say.
Mattyblue
Thing is clubs like Aberdeen and the Edinburgh clubs have massive potential and dormant support, they have just turned away from the game due to the ridiculous size and domination of the Old Firm. Not saying the league would thrive without them, of course as Sky would surely pull out

Isnt that a bit if a self-fulfilling prophesy? "I'm not giving Hibs my cash because they can't compete with the Old Firm". Jason Brown very nearly conceded a soft one for the Dons, btw. Bluemonday BRFC
Boohoo Rangers. They spent consistently more than within their means & maintained expensive schemes in order to try & attain the ascendency in the SPL. Their fans condoned this supremacist attitude and now they've got what they deserved. Yet, it goes without saying the establishment will not allow the establishment's club to ever go under. JAL
One massive media angle being floated about is that Celtic need Rangers, which is absolute poppycock, or should we say bunkum. Celtic see this as their chance to break away from scottish football, and away from the sectarian Rangers, once and for all and try and get into English football. Could the FA take the one club and keep the other well away. Personally the two together should never play in our leagues but just the one makes a far more attractive proposition. Not saying the league would thrive without them, of course as Sky would surely pull out Not sure that Aberdeen or Hearts/Hibs could ever really compete with the old firm even if you only looked at populations of the cities. Edinburgh is a third of the size of Glasgow, Aberdeen about an eighth. A single Edinburgh club might be able to draw a catchment to at least approach what Rangers/Celtic get, but that's never going to happen. For the size of the league the only real way it could have stayed competitive is if Glasgow had divided it's support between four or more decent sized clubs rather than 95% of it just going towards two. That said if you look across Europe that never seems to have happened anywhere with realtively small leagues. All are dominated by two or three clubs:- Portugal by three, the Netherlands three, Greece three, Belgium two, Greece 2/3 etc etc Scotland's suffered more than most from this but it's a general phenomenon. They are a scottish club. I do not think the welsh clubs should be in an English league either - for the simple reason they are not English clubs. Unless we are going to have a United Kingdom league - then each club should play in the league in the country they are in.

And the whole pyramid of English Football is changed for one club? One team from the conference not promoted? Would Celtic start in the second division? they should have to earn the right to play, but then again, what happenns in the pyramid at Evo stick levels and downwards because a Scottish club wants to move over? In real terms, they should start at North West Counties first division and work upwards!!

I don't want Celtic or Rangers in the English leagues and I don't think they really want to come down either. It's purely be for TV money (obviously). Once that dries up they'd want to go back to Scotland. They ought to have a fixed wage cap across all clubs in the SPL, maybe even have some kind of draft system, and make it more competitive. The bubble has burst up there and they need to get used to the idea. The PL will only be about 10 years behind them anyway - max.

Trouble is once we're independent and free of english tyranny, it'll all be over with and the story will disapate. But if i could and being honest I'd scrap league one downwards and introduce north N south leagues as i know most lower level clubs are run at a lose and are struggling. Majiball
100% correct Maji, less travelling and bigger gates!! You should see the heart attack our money man had when we travelled down for a match, staying overnight, only to have the game cancelled. I honestly think it would be better all round and the gates would be much more lucrative. Normally we lose 200K a year, this year around 450K. Serious cash at our level and unsustainable.
