I opted not to go tonight as it was clear both clubs numpties were going to try and ruin it.

Listened on the radio, generally seemed you had the first half, us the second. Also does seem that there was an element of being a little over awed by the crowd. From radio comms a couple of your players stood out, a winger and the lad who went back into defence after the sending off? Hewitt is rated our top prospect by the manager, he's the only one with a contract but it didn't sound like he had his best game.

Sets up the second leg nicely, and that should be a more open game, as ever with two legged games.

Give these lads a chance. And well done to both clubs for getting this far, and yes especially us with just a centre of excellence having beaten the academies of west brom, Ipswich and fulham.

As for moaning for the last week, get your facts right. I had a bit of a moan yesterday about ground areas made available by Rovers and this was justified on what I saw tonight. You call it sport when two morons threaten a 70+ year old when he politely asks them to sit down as he can't see the match. WTF..........

It happens often at away matches. Not necessarily the threatening, but the "we have a right to stand up and hard luck to whoever is sitting behind" mentality. Bit sad really, older fans, children and those not in the best of health often need to sit, they're not asking for the sake of being difficult.

I had a feeling this might happen tonight.

Burnley at Ewood= a load of people standing up in the Ends.

A packed BBEnd with the Darwen Enders in there, as well as some folk that are used to sitting in the Riverside/Jack Walker was not a good mix.

I know it does and for that reason, when I've gone to away matches, always sought to source seats away from the 'core'.

It's common sense, however, IMO, there aint much of that about at Ewood and Hunt & Newsham should hang their heads in shame. We do not have many of these occasions and when we do, they should pull out all the stops for the supporters.

hewitt played well.

was disappointed with coleman. all my burnley mates raved about him. looks a bit small for a centre back too.

I agree with you about the numpties.

i remember having rocks thrown at me outside the turf when i was 8 or 9! and that was for a friendly lancashire manx cup game.

But tonight really is shameful! It was a youth football FFS! :angry2:

Good game tonight. I enjoyed watching a physical hard-fought contest with no diving, cheating, whingeing or spitting.

Overall I thought Burnley played better as a team than Rovers who seemed to use Big Sam's hoofball tactics.

Burnley's No2 and 9 impressed as did Rovers No8, Hanley, and No10 in the second half.

I was disappointed with Fernandez.

I still think that Rovers will get through to the final because I think they'll now have the measure of the opposition but whoever gets to the final won't stand a cat in hell's chance against Chelsea.

Great crowd and plenty of song..............well sung.

Well minus the embarassing attempts by bazza to deride our previous infinitely more successful brand of football, I thought we were easily the better side. Even with 10 men the lads more than held our own. The cutting edge wasn't there but I'm more than sure the job can be wrapped up at Turd Moor. Providing the players receive the same quite phenomenal support of course. It astonishes me at times how awesome our support can be amidst the aura of pedantic intelligentsia that is at times created on here. But there ya go, passion and spirit will always shine through when push comes to shove, and the LOWER tier Blackburn End were legendary tonight.

On Monday the lad next to me got into an argument as he was told to sit down. I'd understand if he was stood up persistently but rovers had almost scored when he was stood for 5 seconds....

I can understand where your coming from but, as we have seen with midweek league cup games, by opening all stands, it made for a really poor home atmosphere.

The atmosphere yesterday, in contrast, was, in the main, fantastic. Although obviously threatening people who ask for people to sit down is bang out of order. Sadly it's a condition of society due to the lack of respect from a vocal minority of young people who are born for the sake of beer-money-benefits and subsequently dragged up (if they are lucky).

I wonder if the club could discretely split the BBE lower into a ("standing") upper and ("sitting")? Failing that steward/police and remove people for persistent standing - but that would cost money and cause more aggro.

I think Ohmi's right though it's time safe standing was brought in like they manage to do in Germany.

So the people behind didn't see the chance then? I appreciate it's an exciting sport but it's not exciting if every time something good starts to happen all you get to see is the back of someone's Rovers top.

I was there. No problem with standing in our area of the BBE - folk got to their feet when it was looking like we might get in on goal and then sat down again. What i think most people are forgetting in judging Rovers below par performanace (and yes, I've seen them play better as I always try to get to YC and Resrve games at Ewood) is that it was a cup game and we've all seen how often the underdog raises their game in a cup game and how often the bigger team freezes. It's not necessarily just the size of the crowd, the expectations or anything like that, but the fact it's your one off chance and it doesn't matter what you do next week. Then if you add to that the weight of the crowds expectation that these lads would not let Burnley beat us cos their first team haven't for so long I can totally understand last night's performance.

I went and thought the whole defence looked fairly solid with Burnley hardly having a clear chance. That's what a defence should do. Nobody stood out with 40 yard passes and surging runs from the back but priority number 1 is stop the opposition creating and they certainly did that. This wasn't no backward hillbilly team we were playing, they obviously have talent to get this far (well they are but you know what I mean).

I also thought the left winger was OK but wouldn't release it quick enough - a problem that most speedy wingers have until they mature looking at Hoilett, Lennon, Pennant etc...

All in all a good night and a decent win.

All the club needed to do was open the BBE part of the JW Upper. Those who chose to sit there were unlikely to add very much to the atmosphere and would have been able to sit and watch the match peacefully without aggravation or agitation.

It's all about meeting the needs of your customers but sadly, yet again IMO, Rovers failed to deliver as I don't think they simply care any more.

It's not the club's fault that a number of its supporters have no manners. Whilst we are at it I was always taught to say "excuse me, PLEASE" and not just "excuse me" and push your way past someone <_<

It isn't just the youngsters who are at fault for the standing issue. At Wigan, some more mature supporters undid the netting to prevent people standing in front of and obscuring the view of disabled supporters (and please remember most of these are unable to cope with the upper tiers at Blackburn). These supporters then turned and gloated at the disabled supporters who were unable to see. Unfortunately the stewards melted away and even when tracked down were not prepared to do anything about it.

Back to the Cup semi second leg - I hope everyone is making an effort to get to this match, the lads need our support even more at t'Turd.

They do.

Burnley had a very healthy following of over 3,000.

Will we repeat that, I have my doubts.

I imagine the crowd will be very similar again, cracking effort by both sets of fans last night. Other Derby's worldwide may well be better attended and more watched on TV but no one will ever convince me that any of them stir more passion than a Rovers/Burnley game, at any level. And its still all to play for so I'd expect a decent home turn out next week.

Because Dingles live for these derbies.

Whereas Rovers fans couldn't care less about them right?

Well made my first visit inside Ewood last night since we beat Bolton last April. Sat on row 10 seat 6 , the view was not as good as I was used too.

I thought that Rovers side were quicker, bigger and stronger than the Burnley lads, and played much the better football. Maybe our lads were all a bit older perhaps, dunno. Enjoyed the game as a whole, and I certainly have seen many poorer League Cup games than that match last night over the years at Ewood. And a couple of Premiership ones too actually.

Great atmosphere, good turnout from both clubs, usual predictable result though :tu:.

When did they erect the gallows at the BBE?

But longers we've had no competition for 33 years .

and you desperately want to keep that going, just as much as we want to break it - THAT is what football is all about. Oh but no sorry, that's just for Burnley fans, Rovers fans couldn't care less, apparently - Now what was the attendance at your other youth cup games this season I wonder .......

Playing Rovers is definitely the most important thing, always will be. The PNE games are actually usually better and more fun but never as anticipated as the ones against you. But, as I say, that is just Burnley fans, Rovers couldn't give a monkeys either way.
