and you desperately want to keep that going, just as much as we want to break it - THAT is what football is all about. Oh but no sorry, that's just for Burnley fans, Rovers fans couldn't care less, apparently - Now what was the attendance at your other youth cup games this season I wonder .......

Playing Rovers is definitely the most important thing, always will be. The PNE games are actually usually better and more fun but never as anticipated as the ones against you. But, as I say, that is just Burnley fans, Rovers couldn't give a monkeys either way.

Playing, and beating burnley, means a great deal to me. we could be playing you lot at tiddlywinks, id still want to go and see you get beat!

Rovers fans that attended last night were very supportive and created a big atmosphere, but I was disappointed in the (HOME) attendance last night.

Thought they would be a lot more rovers fans.

Maybe it doesnt mean as much to some.. i hope it isnt the case.

I actually think 10k for a youth game is exceptional. The folk up here in Glasgow, who are used to largish crowds for Old Firm reserve and youth games, are mightily impressed that a youth cup match, albeit a cup semi against local rivals, could attract a five figure attendance (as opposed to the return leg, which will attract a six finger attendance)

last night was the first time i've seen our academy side but what stood out instantly was how physically bigger and stronger we looked , i suppose we've Allardyce to thank for that , the 2 Rovers c/b's wouldn't look out of place in a league 2 outfit , the 2 Front lads no's 7 and 9 looked a threat in the first half but faded badly in 2nd and imo it looked like the mistakes they were making i.e poor control bad pass/shot selection were due to fatigue , Hernandez the no.11 i'd been looking forward to see because of the rave reviews looked technically gifted although never really threatened, the no' 10 o'sullivan ?? looked good , but the real star imo was the no'8 i thought he was outstanding , i remember a run he did in the 2nd half by the left wing taking on 2-3 defenders , showed great pace strength and skill :brfcsmilie:

Xavi 5'7, Messi 5'7, Iniesta 5'7, Pedro 5'7 - got to love those big lads ;)

Think you miss the point. My point was that those who are really going to make it don't get fazed on the 'big' occasion - one poster suggested the occasion had got to them a bit. It was not a criticism of the Academy.

I remember Damien Duff's PL debut as a 17 year old in a PL game at Ewood in front of almost 30,000 - it didn't effect him. Bottom line is you either have it or you don't.

Um, isn't that total balls?

I mean Hanley did not look anythig special. A total liability in fact. Now he is doing well. Bunn was nothing exceptional. He came in and did a great job when robbo was out. People were writing off Hoilett after a few first team appearences.

Clearly one game means very little in the large scheme of things. A lot of players are slow starters. Agee that the truely exceptional - Jones, Rooney etc. - immediately stand out but plenty of decent players take a while to settle in.

If we get another 3 players out of this youth team of the standard of Hoilett, Hanley and Olsson I would say that would be an extremely good return.

Dont get me wrong its still a huge crowd for a youth game. But I remember a game at turf moor, in the 90's, when it was packed to the rafters.

rovers youth froze and lost 5-0.. the atmosphere was that fierce.

last nights attendance was 10,069.. 3,200 from yorkshire.

6869 home fans is quite low. especially as ST holders got free entry.

I just expected it to be better attended.

Exactly, it's about the standouts progressing and getting in the first team squad, not the overall quality of the Under 18 side.

The side that contained Phil Jones, Jason Lowe didn't win the cup, neither did the side with Duff and Dunn.

Whenever I went to see the Youth team the other year, Hanley always looked far more domineering than Jones at that level. Saw Jones twice and he wasn't even worth commenting about either of the games, and this was after he'd made the bench for the first team (possibly even after he'd made an appearance though i can't say for definite). It's just reactionary views as usual. The top division is never going to be a place where every team has a good few teenagers who blend in perfectly with the more experienced, nor should they be judged on singular performcances in the youth team. I would have thought the older generation would appreciate that having not been brought up on the ridiculous expectations of 24 hour football news and talksport over-analysis etc, and will have seen for themselves that outside of the incredible players it takes a while for players to come through, which they do at different stages of their career.

Unfortunately though, people seem to see what they want to see.

I think you need to factor other issues in. A lot of ST holders (like me) can't get to midweek games because of the distance/work. Also, the first team had just played on Tuesday night as well as an away game at Bolton to follow (which occasional away followers might attend) and brownie points start to come into the equation as well.

You are wrong there.

Our allocation for the second leg is only 2012.

Thought it was 3800?

Comment from Burnley end:

''Sadly more than seats smashed last night too with extensive damage to the toilets, just downright shameful and I stand by my comment that it would have been better against Newcastle because then it would have all been about the football.''

Love the age old tradition of this fixture but hate the shyte that drags it down...the same idiots on both sides never cease to amaze in the same old boring and predictable fashion. You can be passionte about your team without the violence.

It's a real shame. But i fully expect the same to happen at Turd Moor Wednesday.

Well since I can't find the EPPP thread this can go in here. Several league clubs I'm lead to believe have now decided to do away with their youth systems due to costs. Well done premier league, less competition for you

English / British players now, enjoy.

Fixed it for you Maj

For the fattest nation in Europe why would our fat kids want to ever play football, would have thought that football requires far too much energy.

Down with obesity

When do we want it!

After tea !
