[Archived] WenY Hu-Sydney visit

Recommended Posts

I've just booked my flights - arrive in Sydney at 8:40 ---- bad news is I'll have to get out of my pit at 3;30am to make the 6:10 flight from the Gold Coast

We'll have to see how I hold up by the end of the night, any signs of sluggishness wil be purely down to sleep deprivation and not the beer - Honest :-)

looking forward to catching up with friends old and new - should be great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Next one will have to be in Bris so I can stop in bed longer...

Arrived in Sydney and found out that it's Mardi Gras weekend. Should be a lively day around town tomorrow. Looking forward to meeting up and all that.

I notice nobody let on... Even SAR had a plausible excuse for not coming. I'm staying in King's Cross, by the way.

I'll stop diggin' now.

Kings Cross and Mardi Gras!!!

Lol Perhaps you should leave the light on at night and be careful that you don't drop the soap.

Having said that isn't it Oxford Street where there is some alternative types????

I'm just back too. Rovers is my second team (sorry) so I was on the periphery but good to meet a few of the guys that were there.

I did have a brief conversation with our o/s guest. I propose that Wen Y Hu should be a permanent overseas ambassador for Rovers. What a lovely man. In fact should be an ambassador for England. I'm looking forward to the podcast made in Lancashire weather outside the only Sydney pub that has mushy peas on the menu!

Only a few hours to stay up for the 2:00am ko - a win over Villa hopefully, probably, maybe. Definitely. As Wen said, a proverbial six pointer.

When you guys next get together in Sydney please give me a shout.

Thoroughly enjoyed meeting up with a great bunch of people here in Sydney after a rather long session. John Leigh and Robbo were still standing and in good form when I left before midnight. The gathering of Rovers fans in shirts certainly attracted unexpected attention and showed us how small the world is. Excellent stuff.

Hope BRSIT is on his Agenda when he meets all you dedicated Rovers supporters.

There was no agenda. We are jusr a bunch of blokes (and a lady) who got together to talk Rovers and drink. We did lots of both.

Of course BRIST will have been discussed, but everything that was said was just individual opinion. We can't and won't be issuing any formal 'group' statement because we simply aren't a formal group. Our status was discussed over drinks, along with many other things, and several people expressed the opinion that we should remain as an informal group. We have no president, no agendas, no votes, no media statements, no committee.

We simply are people who share a common interest in Blackburn Rovers. However one thing we did agree on was that for ease and convenience we will refer to ourselves as simply BRANZ (Blackburn Rovers Australia and New Zealand).

Hope this clears things up for anyone who's interested.

Watch this space as there will be more BRANZs news soon...

I'm sure it will be unpinned now that the visit is done.

Was great to meet fellow tragics at this inaugural meeting of "BRANZ". The more he drank, the more Robbo's thick scottish accent became incomprehensible, which was brilliant. And all in good humour, despite being on the verge of both his PL and SPL teams being simutaneously relegated. It was great to meet some real die-hard fans (john leigh has the club badge tattooed on his chest !! ....and for some reason seemed to have some sort of fem-magnet in his pocket as he was quickly surrounded by groups of attractive women whenever he went up to the bar...) Dave birch was telling old time stories about what Blackburn was like in the 18th Century. Tony had himself a jersey signed by all the current squad - but was seeking laundry tips on how to erase Steve Keans signature without wrecking the shirt. And if any of you anywhere in the world ever get the chance to meet "Wen Y Hu", do so. That bloke is worth bottling. He is a credit to the supporters group, unbelievably knowledgable, and goes out of his way to promote the club with great humour and spirit.

With Rovers jerseys abounding in the pub, it was interesting the number of people who just came up to the group for a chat, and were fully aware of the issues with Venkys (!!).

There was even a Man City fan who came up and recognised Wen's voice - because he listens to the BRFCS podcasts ! Bizarre !

Anyhoo, I wonder if Wen did end up hitching a ride on a mardi-gras float to get back to his hotel in the Cross afterwards ?

All in all, it was good to drown a few sorrows on a wet and miserable day.

One thing is for sure, to all the protesters and those feeling the pain back in the UK, you should know that even at the arse and of the world, you have fellow Rovers tragics sharing the grief and giving you as much moral support as we can. Cheers ! (The home brew Trafalgar Pale Ale wasn't half bad - even if it was $8 a pint)

Indeed it was great meeting the lot of you! Don't get the opportunity to sit and have a civilised chat about Rovers too often in Sydney, especially with lads from Blackburn who were able to talk about the history of the club and all sorts. Was great to share different thoughts and ideas.

And also great to put a face to people! Especially Wen who took me by surprise....Im still expecting a Japanese gentleman! lol
