[Archived] Rovers Supporters Launch Trust To Buy Club

OK....can we now get back to adding our support for the BRSIT and its bid to act as a 'safety net' in case the worst case scenario comes true?

The support from Colin Mustoe is very very good news. We need other influential(and wealthier) individuals to support BRSIT. It may make it less democratic, but since when was Uncle Jack democratic in his desire to push the Rovers on?

We want an individual or a Group to say something like Uncle Jack said to the then Board of Directors in 1989

"Do you lot want to get promoted?"

In this case it might be "OK we have given you 18 months and you have ruined the Club -now let us take over the Club that we love!"

Any more 'pledgers' or advocates to persuade wealthier individuals?

Venkys would never sell a minority ownership share to supporters. It would mean the whole behind-the-scenes shambles that the club has become would become public knowledge. I can't see them wanting the books opened to those that bought-in.

The best thing they could do would be to accept help and advice from supporter groups/respected professionals without people having to buy-in.

As it stands they have repelled all offers of help and are digging themselves and club into a bigger mess.

As has been said by others i do have concerns about some of the conflicts of interest within the BRIST, some of whom would stand to do very well out of a 'community ownership. Places on the board etc, something some have no doubt harboured thoughts for a long time but had neither the funds or pull to allow it.

I do not know any of those involved or not a great deal about them but I work in football admin and my experience of these sort of trusts/sommunity ownership has a mixed track record to say the least, with often the most vocal members of the community and/or those with the greatest love of the club taking places of power without neccessarily being the best placed to do the job. Stockport are an excellent expample.

"We hope Chris Samba will be the last key departure. There are no plans to sell any more key players because we want to improve the squad"

That's cause there's none left to sell.

I've already made my pledge to BRSIT, it may not come off but we all need to be willing to stand up and be counted. I have never held the view that demonstrations and demands for people to go (whether owners or manager) have got any value unless there is an alternative.

Up to now there have been far too many 'fans' calling for a destructive end to the Venkys involvement at Ewood. BRSIT is a way we can all put into an alternative, I am not foolish enough to see any funds as an investment, nor do I see it as the only funding that will be required.

But ...... its the first POSITIVE move by any group, I'm sick of people thinking that things change for the better as if by magic. This is an option I endorse.

If MG Road is truly a Venkys plant, then surely this is some sort of breakthrough?

Can we really afford to dismiss his comments?

I agree. I also think somebody else maybe working on that idea already.

Again... Not a Venky's plant. Just giving my opinion based on knowing how business is done here.

As I said in my post, the reason I waited until somebody else suggested this was to avoid people thinking that there's more to it than my opinion.

I would have thought the extent to which the people of Blackburn have been antagonised and alienated make this a total non-starter.

It has been difficult enough to maintain supporter unity as it is. I would have a huge issue about putting any of my money into a JV with the Rao family.

Yes Yes Yes.

I am a supporter of the BRSIT idea. If it simply cannot fly on its own (and John Leigh is probably right there - Division 2 maybe, but maybe not in the PL - its just too much money), then the BRSIT idea is still the best we have, but may have to become a JV with an owner (or several owners) who maybe wouldn't have the interest in owning solo, but would do it as part of a team.

But I also cannot see how Venkys could repair the damage already done to be that co-owner. How could they ever repair the trust lost ? And as someone has said, surely co-ownership would open the books and reveal chronic mismanagement and dodgy deals - which would be the last thing they'd want?

I have pledged, but if it came to pass and the end result was a JV with Venkys, I would likely not deliver my small piece of the pie on that idea.

  • Moderation Lead

I think without a wealthy fan willing to put in a large chunk of their own money, this idea is unlikely to get off the ground, unless we dwindle through the divisions and become a lot cheaper, but then would we have the numbers required if that happened?

Got it in one.
