The government in the form of the prize Cabinet office twerp Francis Maude actually advised motorists to store jerry cans of fuel in their garages. If the idiot had any shame he would resign.

Why would he resign? Thats quite sensible advice.....in fact I already have diesel stored anyway in the garage.

You labour by any chance...? :0

Is it legal ?

No.

If this is genuinely the case, it directly discriminates against a section of the population. Despite what people like to believe, discrimination laws are two way.

Photos should be taken, and balanced letters sent to the local trading standards, council, MP and the police.

.... because the Tory twit with his remarks has caused an unnecessary nationwide panic at the petrol pumps and one poor lady in York suffering 40% burns after an accident with petrol ? You might not have noticed but there is no tanker strike yet and the threatened action may yet be called off so Maude's call for people to store petrol was irresponsible and dangerous. He should resign.

You can blame the minister for the nationwide panic, but the incident involving the woman who is in a serious condition he shouldn't be blamed for that. I don't recall Maude telling people to decanter petrol next to a lit gas cooker.

Agree or disagree, you can't blame him for other people's stupidity.

Maude encouraged people to stock petrol in jerry cans in the garage where it obviously did not occur to him that alot of homes have gas boilers and other appliances. The rule is no fuel should be stored in the home because it is dangerous - people do not understand this and neither did this particular minister. The stupidity lies with him for his unthinking remarks which have caused unnecessary damage to the economy and led to this lady being in a critical condition in hospital. He should resign.

Her own stupidity led to the accident..nothing more nothing less.

Ewood,Lock Mill and Asda all out of Petrol as of this morning.

Bout the top and bottom of it, wouldn't be surprised if she was having a fag at the same time.

Stop using the accident to support your agenda. She was decanting petrol indoors in the kitchen with the cooker on, she was stupid.

I'd just like to say well done to the IDIOTS who went out a queued up for fuel they didn't actually need over the last few days.

You've succeeded in:

- Swelling the coffers of the irresponsible government in extra tax revenue

- Putting more cash into the pockets of forecourt owners

- Emptying the pumps and causing problems for people going about their normal routine

- Indirectly causing the maiming of a woman who would have had no inclination to do what she did without your help

- Allowing Cameron to platform to wax lyrical about how his government are doing "everything they can" to ensure empty pumps are being refuelled as soon as possible - giving further creedence to the self-inflicted "crisis"

- Allowing the government to change the agenda of newspapers and TV stations by taking attention off things like the latest budgetary abomination of unfairly penalising pensioners to enable lower taxes for the super-rich

- Provide the balloted tanker drivers with increased income as a result of temporary relaxation of EU rules to allow them to drive for 11 hours instead of 9 to help replenish petrol stations - thereby making the roads less safe with more tired drivers on then

- Giving greedy, opportunist garage owners another excuse (as if one was needed) to increase the price per litre - probably never to return below 1.40

- Demonstrating to the world how thick we are as a nation

Congratulations you ###### imbeciles.

I don't really disagree there however everybody makes mistakes, it's why they put rubbers on the end of pencils.

I'm sure a resignation is a bit ott for a simple throwaway slip of the tongue and that an admission of error and an apology for giving poor advice would suffice. I think Cameron will see to it that Maude is seen as a loose cannon and removed from being in a position to do much harm in the future. Personally I'd cionsider that punishment enough.

However all this cuts both ways doesn't it? We didn't see Gordy resigning for calling lifetime Labour supporter Gillian Duffy "that bigoted woman" when he thought he was out of public earshot did we? Come to think about it (and without looking back) I seem to rem that you defended him strongly at the time.

Yes, yes, the Tories are a bunch of posh sods with plums in their mouths who couldn't run a p*ss up in a brewery, but the masses are still idiots for foregoing common sense and guzzling petrol like it was about to evaporate.
