Under the 'dynamic' system, the prices went up to around triple that on Ticketmaster so it got much worse, with the band's specific blessing too I believe.

Sounds the opposite of Rammstein. Sure, their tickets are around £70-90 (depending on the country), but they took sites like Viagogo to court to stop them reselling them for way more.

I guess Noel's divorce was very expensive.

Jarvis Cocker is brilliant. Pulp were always better than Oasis and Blur. They were on great form when I saw them in Bridlington last year.

Simply can't afford to be a casual concert goer for the bigger bands these days.

(One of the joys of the smaller venues is being able to afford a pint, should you so wish. Was just shy of a tenner for one at Wembley Arena back in March and the O2 venues are £8.50 I think... I tend to be teetotal for those occasions!)

We're going to see London Grammar at the AO Arena and Paul Heaton at the Liverpool Arena in the next couple of months - both £35 plus booking fee.

The worst part of all these shit reunion gigs is that smaller bands can no longer get any bigger because all the decent spots are taken up by bloated, half arsed cash grab reunions.

Also, all the medium sized venues are rapidly disappearing. It's either a tiny club or an arena with nothing in between. The live music scene everywhere is in an absolute dire state and people need to get out to see local gigs and keep the scene alive before it disappears forever.

My usual haunt down here in lieu of the Wolves Civic or the big jobs in Birmingham is KK's Steel Mill in Wolves. Geared towards rock and metal (it is sponsored by the ex Judas Priest guitarist KK Downing, whose cousin is Rovers' assistant manager!) and though not the best layout/acoustics, it is cheap, cheerful, feels 'real' and gets decent names on. Not the flashiest of joints but offers a space for punters to have a proper experience and relevant bands of all shapes and sizes a stage.

Night and day compared to the trek to the O2 jobs in Birmingham with their 'wedge 'em in, bleed 'em dry' approach as an attendee.

I always loved Priest. A proper band. It takes real bollocks to be openly gay in the 1980s metal scene.

Bristol don't have an arena yet but there is one being built called YTL and that will be about 10mins cycle from our home when it's finally open in 2026/27 can't wait for some big acts to be able to come to Bristol!! Even better it's so close to where we live.

Saw Weller at the famous Barrowland Ballroom in Glasgow last week. It’s a cracking venue (his favourite) and him and the band were on fire. 
 

The support act was pretty good too, a fella called Liam Bailey.

Gimme Danger and both Bad Brains tunes are absolute belters.

Gimme Danger is one of my favourite tunes ever. That whole album is 11/10.

Saw both Fontaines DC and Maximo Park here in Munich over the last week or so.

FDC just get better and better - more polished, better songs and a bigger production.  The only downside is as a result the venues get bigger!

Maximo always deliver - I loved their first 2 albums but I think they dipped after that - but still some great songs albeit fewer and further between on their newer stuff.  Still great live though.

Nicko McBrain retired as drummer from Maiden this weekend after 40 years, playing his last gig in Brazil.

He suffered a minor stroke back in January. He was still able to tour this summer onwards, but admitted he had to adapt and simplify some of the more complicated numbers. At 72 years old, he’s a bit older than the rest of the band so it looks like he’s gone out on his own terms. Bruce made a point that he has only retired from ‘live’ performances, so will possibly still feature on future album releases.

Simon Dawson takes over, drummer from Steve Harris ‘other’ band British Lion.
