EwoodDawn Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 I really don't want to be moaning Minnie because in another season under other circumstances I think I'd have loved this and so would my kids. But at this point of such an awful season - particularly after the last few performances on the pitch - and given that it's the 'Community march' day, does anyone else find it a wee bit of a distasteful, if not downright cynical attempt to be trying to win us round just now?

Ralfinho Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 I think that they have purposely done this so Mr Newsham can come out and say the protesters cannot come anywhere near that area
krypton1980 Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 its purely PR. Its the club saying to the media - "Look at all this we are trying to do for the fans and how do they repay us? By protesting." The problem is the media will probably lap it up and take the Venkys and Keans side again.
Ozz Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 It seems like the sort of thing Rovers used to do, pre Venkys. I say credit where credit is due.
nick123 Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 Have I missed something..... Fanzone ?? I'm a season ticket holder who has not got a clue what your on about? Another top project, promoted by our club the fans haven't a clue about !!!
cn174 Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 To be honest watching a bunch of footballing freestylers do keepy-ups whilst drinking beer is a much more attractive prospect than going in the ground and watching the game!
nick123 Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 Then again my season ticket is in the Darwen end, so both my support and opinion is not required by the club.

Hi Nick, The Fan Zone was promoted at the last match on the Big Screen and has been mentioned on the official website on articles regarding this weekend's match. It's also on the backpage of today's and tomorrow's edition of the LT and Bee radio have been pushing it on air aswell. In addition, we sent a SMS about the Fan Zone this afternoon to STH http://www.rovers.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10303~2730444,00.html

Stuart Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 Thanks for the info.... Will check it out tomorrow. Wow. Pushover. 78, you can tell your lords and masters the plan is going to work like a charm.

Was on holiday when the last match was on ( thank goodness by the sounds of it) Don't listen to local radio - it tends to be for old people or kids. No longer use the official site - I'm far too likely to come across a picture of Kean. Don't get SMS alerts because I don't give out my mobile number to all and sundry and especially not to Rovers atm. However, I am a season ticket holder and do read my emails. Have I had one of those?

I only got an SMS at 16.45 today. Edit: Got the email on Wed but it was entitled 'The double' so I deleted it without reading it. Only happened to catch the ad on the back of the smellygraph by chance. Guess it was more interesting to read the small print of the ad than stomach any quotes from our great leader.

EwoodDawn Posted April 20, 2012 Author Posted April 20, 2012 I take it the Raos won't be partaking in this Fanzone - as hindus I presume real ale and hog roast won't exactly be their cup of tea.
krypton1980 Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 It seems like the sort of thing Rovers used to do, pre Venkys. I say credit where credit is due. In different circumstances I would be championing this initiative, a great idea but organised 7 months too late. As it stands it all seems to be organised to clash with the planned march. There are a lot of good people still working at Rovers but unfortunately they can not effect what needs to be done - that being a change in "manager" (i use that term loosely where Kean is concerned).
Backroom Tom Posted April 20, 2012 Backroom Posted April 20, 2012 I take it the Raos won't be partaking in this Fanzone - as hindus I presume real ale and hog roast won't exactly be their cup of tea. Pretty sure they have no objection to alcohol and Hindus eat pork don't they? Anyway it shows how little I go out now is £3 a pint considered good value these days?
stuwilky Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 I got the text at 16:45. I deleted any previous emails, simply because I get way too much crap from Rovers so it all gets deleted - thanks to the "deal of the day". My fault. Still no childcare anyway so match only me thinks!
nick123 Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 I said I'd look !!!!! Didn't say I'd shake hands with the devil........ Once they realise I'm a Darwen ender I'd be escorted out, strip searched and DNA taken for future reference.
SAS Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 Does seem an attempt to water down the march. I'll be at the march ..

Anyway it shows how little I go out now is £3 a pint considered good value these days? Sorry Tom, hold up my hands if I'm wrong. I was just basing it on the few hindus that I went to school with (back in Simon Garner era!) who wouldn't eat any meat and didn't drink, either. I've made a very sweeping generalisation, I apologise if it's wrong and wouldn't mind anyone filling me in on hindu culture.
roverandout Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 how kind and generous of 'em, makes me go weak thinking about how much they value the fans...bah, they can shove it where the sun dont shine, not buying my affections, the only place i will be tommorow is on the march with fans that care about the club not some gimmick to buy people off, you can tell the rovers p.r people or whoever else this fan is not for turning.
