Al Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Apart from the cap, the braces, the lemon and the dominoes you have me to a tee Gordon. More likely to have a golf tee in my other hand that I forgot to take out of my trouser pocket.

PAFELL Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 Yes. You and thenodrog should settle this over a pint somewhere.
Al Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 You and thenodrog should settle this over a pint somewhere. Nothing to settle. Just banter really. I don't think there is any real offence taken on either side is there Gordon?

If I took offence easily I'd have left here long ago! There are a few seriously troubled and deluded knobheads about but the rest is all just bar room banter.

PAFELL Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 Our club has just had its AGM. We were all shocked to learn our beer sales had increased by 50%. Two and a half years ago we brought real ale from various micro breweries into the club. Got rid of a local ale - harveys - which upset loads of folk at the time. Introduced folk to different beers from around the country. Won CAMRA'S SUSSEX CLUB OF THE YEAR 2011 AND 2012 & CAMRA'S REGIONAL CLUB OF THE YEAR 2011 AND 2012. Got in to CAMRA'S GOOD BEER GUIDE. I do not believe if we had kept to lagers that membership and beer sales would have increased as much as they have. Folk drinking and converting to drinking real ale is on the increase. I suggest that any pub or club struggling for business, promoting real ale is the answer.
wilyrover Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 Is it me, or have they lost the plot in the Postal Order? Most of the ale they sold me during their recent real ale festival was sludge. It either needed changing or tipping. Went in for a pint after work on Wednesday and there was no real ale on!!!! I don't think they know how to handle real ale these days.

My local Weatherspoons ( The Regal Moon, a converted cinema ) was in the Camra guide certainly until this year so they must be doing something right with their ale. Our club has just had its AGM. Does that mean you don't sell lager at all ? No we still sell carling, and a newish drink called Curious brew by chapel down winery. Which is popular for both ale and lager drinkers. In my view a decent bar has to cater for all tastes. There are pubs that just sell ale. These are called micro pubs. Something I am considering getting involved with.
PAFELL Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 Did you really Pafell?? Is your club in Ealing, London?? Er I think you need a new map. neither Ealing or London are in either East or West Sussex. If your interested, very easy to check via Camra's websites.

If that's the choices for lager fans no wonder you sell plenty of ale.

Found similar experience down in my area. Witherspoons beers on their last beer festival were a disgrace. Sadly it is hit and miss to find a decent Witherspoons. As a camra member we get £20.00 of vouchers giving us 50p off a pint, to use in Witherspoons - I rarely use them.
PAFELL Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 If that's the choices for lager fans no wonder you sell plenty of ale. It is the ale that brings folks in. As it is a club, therefore folk pay a membership fee, the ale is why they join. Been doing one beer festival a year for the past two years. But hope to do two this year. Not only do folk get a chance to try different ales, some apply for membership as well. Happy for other places to do lagers and keg beers - we don't want or need to.

You're narrowing your possible market there matey. Before you mention Carling again, I'd rather drink my own @#/?, it'll be stronger.

If you pride yourself on your beer then you really should apply the same criteria to your lager Pafell. Carling isn't really a good lager is it? btw Pafell can you tell me the difference between lager and beer.... without googling around?

I can tell you it's something to do with the fermenting process but other than that, just that real ale is generally tastier.

Dunno about thats but taste is down to the opinion of individuals, however the temperature it's served at does make a massive difference.

Carling isn't really a good lager is it? btw Pafell can you tell me the difference between lager and beer.... without googling around? Nope, but folk drink it. Lager is kept beer, always in kegs. Though to be honest, I don't drink it. So my knowledge of lager is very minimal. But brewed different than ale. Just been on there....club of year 2012 is in London. Sussex. Check out east sussex camra.
Sparky Marky Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 So...local club of year, not the big one as you would have us believe by your previous posts.....shady Pafell
thenodrog Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Nope, but folk drink it. Lager is kept beer, always in kegs. Though to be honest, I don't drink it. So my knowledge of lager is very minimal. But brewed different than ale. Sussex. Check out east sussex camra. This might help you pafell.... from t'internet. "Lager is a type of beer. There are two main types of beer, Ales and Lagers. Ale is a beer that uses top-fermenting yeast at higher temperatures for short periods of time. Lager is a beer that is fermented with bottom-fermenting yeast at lower temperatures for longer periods of time (Lager comes from the german word Lagern which means 'to store'). Ales and Lagers then have their own subcategories, for example... Ales include, Stouts, Porters, Pale Ales, Wheat Ales, Lambics, etc. Lagers include: Pilsners, Helles, Bocks, Oktoberfests/Marzen, Vienna, etc. A beer's classification as an Ale or a Lager does not have any relation to it's flavor profile, generally speaking. A Stout is much different than a Wheat Beer just as a Pilsner is much different than an Oktoberfest. If someone asks if you want a Lager or a Beer, they shouldn't be serving beer." Just goes to show that beer snobbery is based on sweet FA other then silly macho, entrenched beliefs tempered with a good dollop of jingoism. Also you having Carling on surely goes against your otherwise sound principles and is akin to choosing to stock the tragic and now terminated Watneys Red Barrell or Whitbread Trophy etc! You need sto take some advice on lager methinks.
