That could have been written about the town I live in. You could have mentioned the avaricious brewers charging the landlords a fortune to rent their pubs. That then leads to the landlords charging us punters the best part of £4.00 a pint.

We have just had to put our drinks up where I work - £2.80 a pint now. We don't 'normally' touch these big national co - though we do get Youngs special in, but that is only because they gave us a fixed priced deal about 3 years ago. So we use micro breweries. I won't even drink in tied houses - yet feel sorry for those landlords.

Not sure, but I think no39 in Darwen still sell beer under £3.00 a pint. No 39 is the tap for Hopstar brewery (well was last time I was there)

The Vic and Station, Fishergate, Preston currently has Moorhouses Blond Witch at £2.30 and six others at £2.60.

Paula is leaving the Bittersuite, Fylde Road, Preston at the end of January. I believe the licensees of the Angel, Lune Street have taken the lease.

Sadly not up north till around christmas - shifts permitting. I like Moorhouse. The road out and the beer is the only good things that come out of dingle land. Not sure, but I think one of their brewers, left and set up his own place in Manchester, called Privateer. Had privateer's beers, all good, imo.

From next weekend I will have ' Critical mass 7.4% by Dark Star and Imperial stoAt 9% by Wessex. I questioned the stoat part - but apparently that is the name. For some reason nobody saying why, the name STOAT.

Ex head brewer from Moorhouses set up Reedley Hallows Brewery last year

Have tried a few of their ales and all very good. Usually have one or two on in New Inn at Clitheroe.

Only downside, like Moorhouses, is they are based in the land of the six-fingered.

I heard one of the brewers had moved. Have you tried beers by Privateer? They are from Manchester.

Yes I have. I had one named Kitty hawk (or something similar) at Corporation Arms Beer Festival in October and also had one when I was in Manchester a couple of weeks ago but can't remember the name.

Both very good and I would try any of their beers if I saw one.

Going out round Preston this evening so hope to find some new ales!

Just tapped my Christmas barrel and pulled off the first pint.

Gone for York Brewery's Guzzler this year - not too strong so folk can drink it all day tomorrow when they roll IP at our house

They better like it - there's about 70 pints to sup

Whatever you end up drinking this Christmas, have a good one!

Took my mum and Harry to the Black Bull at Livesey on Boxing Day for a Christmas drink. It was their first visit, 9 cask ales on and both of them will going back.

Great stuff, what lagers do they sell ?

Make me laugh all those cask ale types. They go in a pub in their crumpled clothes, dirty shoes and even dirtier finger nails, select a beer with a daft name (that sounds like its been made up by the village idiot) sniff it, peer at it, taste it,pull a face and then loudly and pompously declare in a loud voice that it is 'off'. Happens time and again and is a very rare occurrence amongst the lager drinkers.

Anybody know a pub that just does a selection of quality lagers and fine wines?

The title of the thread is a clue Gordon and your description of cask ale drinkers is just stupid. You really are an arrogant attention seeker.

And why do you think that is?

I'm sorry Al but since my local ( The Baum in Rochdale ) won the title of CAMRA pub of the year recently it's been full of the types Theno describes. The Baum does stock a fair selection of Continental draught lagers, Staropramen, Hoegarden, Leffe Blond, Becks Vier ( fizzy @#/? ), Amstel ( I'd rather drink my own @#/? ), Brew-dog ( expensive and not great in my view ) plus the usual Carling ( I'd rather drink your @#/? ). They also stock a vast range of bottled lagers from all over the World. Trouble is they are mostly pretty strong and quite expensive.

They used to stock a really great pint of Stella but the landlord didn't like it's Chavvy reputation so he got rid of it.

I'll walk down there tonight at tea. I'll start off with a bottle of " Fruh " that's a Kolsh or Cologne brewed bottled lager. Move on to a bottle of " Erdinger " Weissbier and then finish off with either a bottle of " Schneiderweiss " German lager or a half of " Leffe ". Then it's time to wend my way back to Shoelace Towers. English ale ? You can keep it for me, it's so inconsistent.

You are a lager drinker Tyrone and I would not wish to try to convert you to traditional British Ale. You are probably a lost cause.

Stereotyped nonsense but then I wouldn't expect anything else from you. Our local has traditional ales and it is well patronised by normal people.

For the record, I wouldn't drink lager even on a hot summer's day, but then that is my preference.

And that is your choice..... unfortunately that does not stack up the same for other drinkers around the globe who prefer lager type offerings and who probably make up 99% of all 'beer' drinkers.

btw Are you still a fully paid up member of the 'Flat Earth Society'?

Good pint of Pendle Witch in the Taps at Lytham today.

It is a decent pint in winter MCM BUT enjoy it whilst you can ..... it'll prob taste like vinegar by tomorrow or Tuesday. ^_^

Don't know about globally but here it's about a 75/25 lager/real ale split with real ale's share increasing thanks to numerous micro breweries opening in the past few years and of course the superior taste and texture of proper ale compared to fizz.

Seeing as you like stereotyping drinkers I assume you are a lager lout ?

Bit of a mood drinker tbh. Finished a round of golf the other day and had a pint and a half of Guiness. If I have a tea time pint I usually choose a light bitter (unless it's hot weather) and if I have a proper neet aht sesh then it's usually lager. Truth is I don't have the taste to consume large quantities of either of the former.

Excuse me for being a bit nerdy, but neither Hoegaarden nor Leffe are lager beers

Radio Lancs reported this afternoon that 60 jobs were at risk at Thwaites, as the brewer began the consultation process before leaving its town centre site for an 'un-named location'.

It went on to say that the craft brewery, opened in 2011, was safe. Where is this craft brewery?
