Come on Alf, the cash economy is peanuts compared to the tax evasion and avoidance carried out by wealthy individuals and companies. And that does not make the cash economy right either - the Greeks have made tax avoidance an art form and look at the state of their country. The tax evasion / avoidance argument is not spurious and is one of the main reasons why this country's public finances are in such poor order. To repeat, everyone suffers - the little people like you and me Gordon - because these people are not paying taxes. You'll get it one day.
