Overall signs not looking good for Team GB - three days gone, still no gold medal and swimmers missing out again and Tom Daley taking a leaf out of the men's cycling team's book by blowing it on the big occasion. Bouquet for the gymnasts though.

Pretty awful so far.

What a wonderful day for British sport. 14 golds now and it would be a shock if we don't improve on our mark from Beijing.

Need to watch the Russians, they'll start to climb the medal table in the next few days. If we could finish above them and claim third it would be truly remarkable.

Where did that long jump gold come from?!

God knows why Greg Rutherford has been ignored. He is world number 1 in 2012 and yet you would have been hard pressed to have heard about him reading most of the press. There was an article in the Independent last week about how little fuss was made about his chances.

More apologists for Cavendish. Fact is the GB team were out-thought and outmanouevred and got their tactics wrong. They had a plan that went awry and they had no way to respond. Cavendish even had the gall to blame other teams for his defeat and has lost the respect of the public because of his ego and lack of grace in defeat. This is another Olympics in which has failed to gain a medal so perhaps he is not quite as good as he thinks he is.

Astonishing that your jibes were aimed at cyclists, you've been back peddling ever since. Just admit it, this has been a great games with patriotic fervour, especially after today.

Sturridge showing why footballers will never be a patch on our truly great sportsmen and women.

Having Stuart Pearce anywhere near the GB Olympic team was frankly an embarrassment.

Completely agree.

I've felt nothing but pride watching our proper athletes compete.

Funny how Martin Keown was just now talking about it not being about winning but about celebrating the sport. Good old Sav was straight in though and brought up Beckham though.

Helen Jenkins disappointed in the triathlon and the GB footballers took a leaf out of the Cavendish book of screw-ups by losing to Korea. The women's hockey team have also made it hard for themselves by losing to China.

Apart from that not a bad day. :)

Best statistic of all is the gold medal count

Great Britain 14 Australia 1

Fabulous night. The last 200m meters of the Farah race was incredible. The atmosphere in the stadium sounded unbelievable.

Fancy Murray to get at least one gold plus more in the track cycling. 100m should be cracking even without British interest.

I know you're trying to be funny but grow up. Cavendish, the greatest sprinter in the history of the sport, a screw up? I shouldn't waste my time as you clearly dont have a clue about cycling but please, give it a rest.

I must say I though the Farah race was the best track performance by a British athlete since the glory days of Coe and Ovett. Briton followed home by a white American with the leading African nations well beaten in the 10,000m is unusual to say the least. Ennis is a darling.
