jim mk2 Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 More apologists for Cavendish. Fact is the GB team were out-thought and outmanouevred and got their tactics wrong. They had a plan that went awry and they had no way to respond. Cavendish even had the gall to blame other teams for his defeat and has lost the respect of the public because of his ego and lack of grace in defeat. This is another Olympics in which has failed to gain a medal so perhaps he is not quite as good as he thinks he is.

Redrose49er Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 perhaps he is not quite as good as he thinks he is. He thinks he is the fastest sprinter in the world and the rest of the cycling world agrees with him. He is not the best climber, not the best time triallist, not the best sat on the front of the bunch and doesn't claim to be any of these but led out within 500m of the finish and he is the best, in fact L'equipe judged him the best sprinter in the history of the TdF so perhaps he is as good as he thinks he is?

He is in the prime of his life and is regarded as the best in the world, he was competing in the biggest sporting event in the world in his own country, the nation was watching and waiting and expecting a golden victory... and he blew it. History will show him as not good enough.
Redrose49er Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 the nation was watching and waiting and expecting a golden victory... And therein lies the problem, many people believe what they are told. The media made it sound so easy, turn up, race around, win gold because if Wiggins can win a 3 week stage race then GB should win every race they enter shouldn't they, despite the fact that other nations were also taking part and maybe some harboured some hopes of victory, their best chance being to totally isolate Team GB. Perhaps all GB olympic competitiors who 'should' win will be treated in the same way? History will show Mark Cavendish as the greatest road cycling sprinter the world has ever seen but perhaps that isn't good enough for some people? Anyone with any understanding of cycling at the top level understands all of the above but I do accept that some people are not as informed and knowledgable on certain topics as others.
cn174 Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 Some excellent swimming this evening - well done Becky Adlington getting bronze in 400m I've gone multi-screen - nicked my brothers TV and computer from his room because he's on holiday

jim mk2 Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 Good battling performance by Adlington after eighth fastest qualifying and sixth at the turn in the final. Giggs scored for the GB team ... did he kiss his GB badge ?
Salgado Is A Hero Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 History will show Cavendish as 4th on the all-time list of Tour de France stage wins.....and the most successful sprinter ever. And a former British Sports Personality of the Year as some see that as very prestigious.
koi Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 Great win just then for the British team in the women's beach volleyball.....and one of them, Zara Dampney, is very tasty indeed. She sure is, there's also a cracker in the hockey team, going to google later. Actually all round the standard is high except the female swimmers..

Actually all round the standard is high except the female swimmers.. Haha......Great race in the swimming then.....4x100m freestyle (front crawl) relay final.....USA with Phelps and Lochtie look like they're gonna win pretty comfortably until the last leg and the final French swimmer absolutely destroys it and they take the gold.....fair play to them even though they are French and will probably come near us in the overall medal table.
SouthAussieRover Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 Giggs scored for the GB team ... did he kiss his GB badge ? Did Eisa kiss his UAE badge?
Beta Ray Bill Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 Saw the Sabre class finals in Fencing this evening. Still unsure as to what the hell was happening. It is so fast it makes the scoring seem almost random. The pantomime antics of the fencers was a good laugh, and the atmosphere was great - either everyone was a fencing expert or totally nonplused like me.

Don't let the WUM wind you up. He's a know nothing fool who can't contribute to a discussion with any relevant knowledge so he resorts to trolling. That's what makes him the resident MB bellend.

I realise you are unlikely to accept the opinion of those of us who follow, and in some instances participate, in the sport on a regular basis. Perhaps you could comment on the views held by the majority of professional journalists or are their opinions also of no value? Just two examples below, there are too many articles to list them all: The Telegraph http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/olympics/cycling/9436346/London-2012-Olympics-Mark-Cavendish-was-never-a-certainty-for-gold.html This month L'Equipe named Cavendish as the greatest sprinter in TDF history. On the other hand being French and having grown out of L'Auto (whose owner instigated the TDF) the paper probably knows little of the race history.
thenodrog Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 He is in the prime of his life and is regarded as the best in the world, By much better and more qualified judges than you. The guy is still only 27 and is 4th in the all time stage wins in the TDF and in front of Lance Armstrong ffs! He had an off day without a doubt. You have thousands of them. Get your Hornby 00 out and stop your infantile trolling.
SouthAussieRover Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 For your information I cycle with a group once a month - I don't think a tricycle counts Dorky.

M-K Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 What's the point in gymnastics? Somehow they evaluated all that effeminate jumping and prancing, down to one thousandth of a point, and gave Britain's men a silver. Then the team in fourth place put in an appeal and the judges said, well, actually we were wrong by an entire half a point, so we're going to change all the results around. They should all appeal again and see what random number comes out of the judges next time. It's no more a 'sport' than Strictly Come Dancing or the X Factor.
Backroom Tom Posted July 30, 2012 Backroom Posted July 30, 2012 What's the point in football? Major tournaments and games won and lost by people pretending they were fouled and falling over People getting sent off for retaliating and then appealing and having an entire game taken off their suspension
