But the situation was basically the same last summer and we signed like 10 players. Including internationals with Champions League experience like Vukcevic. We had just stayed up on the final day whilst playing shocking, had an absolute no-name as a manager who nobody had heard of, and ridiculous owners who clearly knew absolutely nothing about football.

We are run absolutely terribly don't get me wrong but players and staff alike still go to clubs when they are.

I don't get Kean's logic though. Players like Danny Murphy will not just sit quietly while he gives his pre-match team talk emphasising the importance of penalty box entries.

If Kean is staying then I hope we do spend money on the likes of Murphy and Best because then there is at least the tiniest, remotest chance we might not get relegated again.

Sorry mate, but it's not "basically" the same at all.

Many, many people thought Kean was a crap manager this time last year, now every man and his dog knows he's a crap manager, a liar, a drink driver and someone who is being sued for calling a Premier League manager "a crook". Half the experienced Premier League players we had this time last year have been sold, paid up or frozen out.

The clubs sacks employees because they tell the truth, the clubs mouth piece is the Malaysian equivalent of Ken Dodd. The clubs General Manager is on holiday (or is it a 4 week sabbatical?). The club don't have any supporters, haven't sold any season tickets and the owners and manager are despised by fans both young and old. More players also want to leave.

Other than that.... Oh yes, a couple of other things, revenue has dropped by £20m at an estimate as a result of our no longer being a Premier League Football Club. That's quite key. Possibly the essential difference. We're no longer a Premier League Football Club.

Why would any player want to come here? Why would any player want to stay here for that matter?

Admittedly "basically" was the wrong word to use. My main point was that the situation was very bad last summer, and that various other clubs in other divisions and indeed countries have clubs that are very badly run yet still attract players that they perhaps shouldn't.

Danny Murphy is apparently considering us because we are offering him a 2 year deal, as opposed to other Premier League and Championship teams who are only offering him a 1 year deal. The guy is 35 years old and just wants to play and pick up a wage. As long as there is no danger of not being paid, players and staff still go to clubs that are essentially a shambles.

I don't like being pedantic even though I'm just about to be but he was convicted for drink driving in mid-August (apologies again for being pedantic). Within football everyone would know that we are normally a mid-table club (and were when he took over) who he almost got relegated. Your right in saying that now everyone knows he is a terrible manager but it's not like some people thought he was ok or anything. I don't know why anyone would want to sign for us. I have thought the same thing for over a year. I have no idea why most of our players didn't leave themselves over a year ago. I don't know about the mindset of footballers but I can maybe see us signing players we have no right to and would be stupid to come here.

The situation at our club is obviously a complete and utter joke but I still think players and staff would come here. I might be wrong but I do believe it, not that I understand it as I certainly wouldn't. Although if it was at a higher wage than other clubs than I probably would.

I don't doubt players will sign for rovers but what is their motivation? It can't be to progress their careers nor can it be to learn from the manager. Coming to rovers makes little sense if your someone with ambition right now. We are potentially looking at some more dodgy characters joining the club!

He would be a decent signing. You never know how long his legs will hold up, but based on his performances last year he should do well in the Championship. Just the sort of player we needed in the middle of the park as well.

I would be more than happy with Murphy - Even if he came in as captain would be brilliant in my opinion and dictate 80% of the games at this level:

Bunn/Kean

Orr Dann Hanley Henley

Simon/Ruben/Formica (RM) Murphy Lowe Pedderson

Goodwillie Best

Surely that stating eleven would finish in the top 8 (Even with Kean as manager) and thats assuming Yak, Hoilett, Nzonzi, Olsson, Other Olsson, Robbo, Givet all leave and we did get Best & Muprhy...

Look at Derry at QPR other than Taarabt he was stated as being their most important player and Im sure Murphy could be vital for us...

are you nuts, there is nobody in that side with any physical presance, height(apart fom hanley&dann) or pace whatsoever they would be battered of the field in the championship,Your also deluded if you think kean can motivate any player or organise any team regardless of the quality of playing staff.

Also i think at chapionship level i think dunn would be much better than murphy if he is played in his best position behind the forwards, last time in chapionship he scored about 20 goals, im sure he could get into double figures easily If we had a real manager at the club.

Won't make any difference if Kean is still manager - unfortunately the bald one's tactical deficiencies outweigh any positives Murphy could bring.

If Murphy saw and took any notice of the statistics posted on here earlier this week he would realise that very rarely do we play through midfield or even pass to each other. Maybe it is in his thinking that he will soon be caretaker manager if (as Shebby says) Kean gets off to a bad start.

Danny Murphy is after 1 thing(if he signs), A Big Final Pay Day.

and a 2 year deal for a 35 year old who could be a massive highly paid flop(other than at fulham where the style of play suits him he has been very average to poor), will the venkys never learn.

I think he would be a very good signing for us, but wouldn't play him alongside Dunny unless the latter is placed on the flank. Murphy would bring some much needed composure and creativity to our midfield, so as long as someone else can do the enforcing I think he could be vital in a promotion push.

Yes that is a fair point. Although I was thinking it would be more the older players such as Murphy in search of a final pay day. Yea well as long as one of the dodgy characters sorts Kean out once and for all I'll be happy.

Why are people saying we will struggle in the championship and that's it's much faster than the premier league, no it isn't in terms of quality and fast play the premiership is a miles harder and more competative league, I watch a lot of championship footy and it's sloppy and stop start with average players. With a different manager we would be pushing for promotion.

I largely agree tbh. I went to some Bristol City games last year if they were playing at a different time to us and with a right manager and a few good signings of which at least have some experience then I'm sure we could definitely push for promotion. The only trouble might lie with just how many other teams will push for promotion as well. Wolves and Bolton? Birmingham, Blackpool, Cardiff, Leicester? Charlton and Sheff Wed? Obviously a bigger problem is getting rid of Venky's/Kean.

2-3 Years ago i would have agreed with you , but not now , not in this league

I might be a bit biased i'll admit. I've always been a very big fan of Murphy. I just think half of his game is his intelligence. Providing he has willing legs around him and he's not being deployed as a harrowing midfield anchor man then i think he can really help the side. Since we lost Diouf we've not had anyone capable of retaining possession and aiding our very creaky back line. I'll also admit that i've not closely followed Murphy's performances last season, so for all i know his legs could be utterly shot. But i just have a sneaky feeling he'll impress the remaining few who'll be at Ewood next season......edit; IF he does sign on the dotted line, as mentioned above.

It would be a decent signing in my opinion. lets face it we would've all taken him last season in the premiership over the likes of petrovic being in there so i would say murphy in the championship can do a good job for the team.

I would say this is a step in the right direction in terms of the type of player Rovers should be trying to sign for a promotion push. Invaluable experience and a clever football brain pulling the strings in midfield. Something we severely lacked last year!

Feeling quite strange as it feels like a positive move for once by the club.

I was a big fan of Murphy when he was at Charlton and the first couple of years at Fulham, but that was years ago. My concerns about this signing would be:

1- How much does he have left in the tank? Pace have never been a key attribute for him but he is only going to get slower.

2- What will the impact be of signing him in terms of the wage budget? It appears if he comes he will be on 'big wages', what impact will that have in the future.

3- Where is he going to play? I don't see how he and Dunny can play in the same team at the same time, can't have two plodders in the same midfield.

chuck Pedersen into point 3 and you see why i'm not overly enthused ... Good player Murphy , just not sure he's for us

The LT also says we're after a "energetic midfielder" on-loan from a PL club
