rovers11 Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 One slight positive is that the LT are reporting a replacement for Best would be sanctioned if he was out for a significant period. That would mean two more strikers to come in. Desperately need a target man up there.

bradeagle Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 We'll have more strikers than British Airways soon.
rovers11 Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 We'll have more strikers than British Airways soon. Strikers win football matches. Without Best, we've only got one decent striker left in Nuno Gomes. Goodwillie is not good enough, Edhino is too young to expect anything from him next season, players like Formica, Rochina, Dunn are not out and out strikers.
booth Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Yes Rochina, like Goodwillie is one of those really disappointing and frustrating strikers where he'll score a goal then the manager won't play him the next match. Bloody rubbish.
AllRoverAsia Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Anyone know if Bests previous cruciate and medial ligament problems were to the same knee? With the other stuff he's had he is somewhat injury prone. He is s big lad so his knees are bearing some load - we better stock up on a couple of decent strikers quick.
booth Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 So now we know what Kean's excuse will be when we have a bad start to the season.
A cup of beans Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 . Desperately need a target man up there. Nuno Gomes is a target man - If he can't fill in and play the 1st couple of games.. then why the f have we bought him ?
Mattyblue Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 A target man? Thought we try and 'play the right way' under Keano?
Mercer Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 4 weeks Hope you are correct but suggest that this may be wishful thinking. Would be amazed if correct - Eric Black "“It is hard to say. Obviously he got a bit of a fright because his knee seems to have moved". If his knees has "moved", there will be, at 'best', some injury to his medial ligament and probably torn cartilage. If this is the case, you are looking at between 2 to 3 months.
S60tti_BRFC Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Not a chance its 4 weeks. I'll put my house on that.
RibbleValleyRover Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 I would be very surprised if he's not out for at least a couple of months and that's as a best case scenario. Is it in the same knee that he had his previous cruciate injury back in 2010?
G Somerset Rover Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 As somebody else has said, he's a big stocky lad, so he's naturally going to be putting his knees under extreme pressure on the football field. Hopefully the injuries not as bad as first feared, but i'd be surprised if he came back as the same player if it is indeed months rather than weeks given that it'd be his second serious knee problem. RVR - it was his right knee at Newcastle, which one was it this time?
G Somerset Rover Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 6 months at least according to LET. F*** I can't see Venkys wanting to splash out decent cash on a replacement and as I said above, I can't see him coming back as the same player either. My housemate had that injury and he lost a yard and more.
BuckyRover Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 As well as being completely inept Kean is also bloody unlucky. Not a good combo Luckily for Best that he managed to get a bumper contract before this happened. Still at least it gives the guys in the treatment room something to do after Vinces departure
bennyboyt11 Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Being a Rover just gets better and better doesn't it.
rovers11 Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Big, big blow. I'd be surprised if he played any part of next season, they won't want to rush him back from that kind of injury, Now have to splash out on another 2 strikers. How big a blow Best's injury is depends on who we sign - need a hold up player now as well as a Cox type player. I wouldn't be surprised if they went in for Santa Cruz.
Muddboy Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Unbelievable. Bloody unbelievable. Well, the chicken pluckers will have to dig deep. Simple as that. Good luck with the recovery, Leon.
The Rover of Finland Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Expect a loan striker to come in. Hard to believe Rovers would pay for two strikers now.
Ricky Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Need to use the loan market well now. There must be prem teams with fringe players who they want to get some games, whats that Carroll lad up to at Anfield these days lol.
davulsukur Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 That is exactly what we did not need to hear. Need to move quickly to get a striker in to replace him.
