Kelbo Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Awful but expected news made worse by the fact it probably gives Kean even longer with his ready made excuse I would have thought insurance was in place, however, if its the same knee as previous, has the medical not been carried out correctly?
Ricky Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Not sure how insurance would work for an injury like this.
BRFC95 Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 need a hold up player now Having been at Old Trafford on Sunday I'd say Chris Wood the 20 yr old NZ center forward would fit that criteria. Currently at West Brom and valued at less than a million. Played like a younger Kevin Davis but without giving away the free kicks
G Somerset Rover Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 I would have thought insurance was in place, however, if its the same knee as previous, has the medical not been carried out correctly? Can anyone clarify which knee it is this time? If it's his right I'd imagined he/we're screwed given his history.
davulsukur Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Played like a younger Kevin Davis Alright Steve.
LeChuck Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Need to use the loan market well now. Yep definitely. Not sure who's going to be available mind. I've always liked the look of Chris Wood at WBA whenever I've seen him play, which has mainly been for New Zealand. Big, strong lad and will score a few goals. Knows this division well form previous loan spells. I would have thought insurance was in place, however, if its the same knee as previous, has the medical not been carried out correctly? Aren't insurance claims only for if the player has to retire? Doubt there will be any sort of claim going in for a 6 month injury.
Bennisfromheaven Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Need to use the loan market well now. There must be prem teams with fringe players who they want to get some games, whats that Carroll lad up to at Anfield these days lol. Could be a great idea for all on loan!!
martonrover Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Very bad news but at least it gives Shebby & pea brain time to get someone else in before the season starts / window shuts.
Salgado Is A Hero Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Let's hope he recovers alright and Lukaku fancies dropping down the the C'ship to guarantee games....I highly doubt it though.
jim mk2 Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 PRESS ASSOCATION SPORT 1 SOCCER Blackburn BEST BLOW ROCKS ROVERS Blackburn striker Leon Best is set for an extended spell on the sidelines after suffering anterior cruciate ligament damage yesterday. The 25-year-old Republic of Ireland international, a £3million summer signing from Newcastle, was carried off on a stretcher before half-time in Rovers' 2-1 pre-season friendly win over AEK Athens at Fleetwood. Best had earlier put Rovers 2-0 ahead, adding to Nuno Gomes' opener with a fine individual effort. A club statement read: ``Rovers are preparing for the start of the Championship season without Leon Best after the striker suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in Sunday's pre-season friendly against AEK Athens. ``The Irish international, who only joined the club from Newcastle United earlier this month, was stretchered off shortly before half-time in the 2-1 win. ``Best, who had scored a superb goal in the game, was sent for a scan this morning and Rovers' worst fears were confirmed, with the 25-year-old now set to face an extended spell on the sidelines.'' Reports suggest the striker could be out of action for around six months. Best is one of boss Steve Kean's flagship summer signings as Blackburn seek to gain an immediate return to the Barclays Premier League. Now the Scot faces the prospect of heading into the forthcoming npower Championship campaign with Gomes and David Goodwillie as his only senior strikers.
den Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Just made a poor transfer window worse. The people in power at Ewood need to get their backsides into gear and prove how serious they really are about getting back into the PL. The squad needs real money spending on it.
winstonsmith Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Injured ? Who'd a thowt it, eh ? Just had a quick look at Newcastle forums for their opinion of him.....They... say he has injury issues, not a good sign.
jim mk2 Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 This smacks of 1966 when Rovers signed Martin Britt from West Ham, a good centre forward but with a history of knee problems. He played a few matches for us and then retired. Not saying Leon Best is finished but the lad was obviously a high-risk signing. Well done to Newcastle for getting £3m for a dud.
blue_n_white99 Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Need to use the loan market well now. There must be prem teams with fringe players who they want to get some games, whats that Carroll lad up to at Anfield these days lol. Which manager in his right mind would lend a player to Coco?
modes98 Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 We have to take positives from this Goodwillie and Blackman are still here!
Lhrover Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 kean will use this as an excuse now....'well we would of won but we have too many injuries to key players like leon best'
blue and whites Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 He will be out for at least 6 months. And if his previous knee injuries have been in the same knee, the chances of him ever getting better are severely reduced..
AllRoverAsia Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 We have to take positives from this Take and insert the positive into Kean where the sun don't shine
rhodie Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 If we are really lucky he`ll be back at the tail end of the season. If I remember correctly Shearer had the same injury in `93 he was out for the season I personally have also had the injury and found that it seems to reoccur or flare up sometimes after the smallest tweak.

Are you thinking of Gilliver?
jim mk2 Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Are you thinking of Gilliver? Definitely Martin Britt. Look here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Britt
92er Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Definitely Martin Britt. Look here. http://en.wikipedia....ki/Martin_Britt What I remember about Britt was that he was supposed to have been recommended by the West Ham directors and we bought him without seeing him. Gilliver was the one from Huddersfield who came to us with and injury-I just thought that fitted in better with what you were writing. I'll just withdraw with good grace!!
RibbleValleyRover Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 The fact he has had issues in the past relating to his knees should have been a major warning sign for Rovers. I do wonder where Rovers are going to go now on the striker front. I have serious doubts about the current crop at the club and Cox who the manager seems to want isn't the answer either.
