Salgado Is A Hero Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 What a player. Translation from that Benfica forum - "What a crazy game. 5-3. Are already in first. I hope they are champions. Yet another goal and another assist. Nuno Grande!"
hesfromburn Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 Amazing player!! People wrote him off like they did with Yak, the guy oozes class!!
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 old age pensioner ...Who scores goals!!
Backroom Mike E Posted September 15, 2012 Backroom Posted September 15, 2012 That age old saying again. First with Tugay, then Salgado and now Gomez: Form may be temporary, but Class is permanent.
Hekla Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 Gomes is still a class player, I am proud to have him here. If he is fit for the whole season then I can see 20 goals.
sharpysharps Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 This guy will be signing of the season in the championship if he carries on. He will get 15 goals this season. I would say rovers have the strongest group of strikers in this league by miles. It's a good job too! Looks like we are gonna need as many goals as we can get lol
Beta Ray Bill Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 My MotM today. Seems to have adjusted remarkably quickly to the English game. Rhodes will learn so much from playing alongside him.
Backroom DE. Posted September 15, 2012 Backroom Posted September 15, 2012 He's been fine so far. Let's not forget the fella is 36 years old, it's highly unlikely he'll be able to keep this going for the entire season. Keep your expectations at a reasonable level.
Martin Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 Looks a class above and Kean is managing him well by taking him off with 20 mins to go when he starts. He might be 36 but he looks fit and sharp.
Kelbo Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 His biggest asset is his awareness of whats around him and thus his speed of thought, he is a far better player than one may think, you need to see the lad week in week out to appreciate just how good he is!!

Equal to that is the quality of his finishing. Every strike has been top drawer. He was a favourite player of mine many years ago but I wasn't sure what to expect. I'm relieved that it looks like he will be a success. We're very lucky to have a player like him at this level.
Exiled_Rover Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 Looks a class above and Kean is managing him well by taking him off with 20 mins to go when he starts. He might be 36 but he looks fit and sharp. The quality of the league is so poor that I don't see why not. On a related note - I've just watched the highlights. First Rovers coverage I've seen all year. Those shirts are still ###### - glad that in the future, once we've been able to wipe the Venky stain clean, we'll be able to identify their reign by the halved kits. We should keep the halved kits until they've gone, then go back to the beautiful quartered ones.

Let's not forget the fella is 36 years old, it's highly unlikely he'll be able to keep this going for the entire season. Keep your expectations at a reasonable level. Must admit - I would consider resting him for the game on Tuesday - give Rochina a start and safe Gomes for Friday.

Rhodes will learn so much from playing alongside him. Quite right BRB and the benefit to Rhodes and other developing players will be hugely beneficial at this stage of their careers.
RoversSG Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 There's an article in the newspaper here in Singapore that said that a Malaysian team is interested in Gomes. http://www.todayonline.com/Sports/EDC120929-0000043/Fandi-to-helm-Johor-side-in-MSL-next-year Last few paragraphs
Clitherover Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 Couldn't imagine him wanting to go over there unless they are willing to throw bucket loads of cash for his contract.
bluebruce Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 He's only just bloody signed, and things are going well. Can't see it happening til the end of the season.
