folkdevil Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Looks like we're stuck with Eric Black as Steve Bruce has appointed ex-Rover Steve Agnew as his new assistant at Hull. http://www.mfc.co.uk/page/news/latest/0,,1~2826562,00.html? Either that or he's replaced by Colin Hendry this week. That seems to have gone a bit quiet.

Pitty Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 This is good news, as we need Black in place with pre-season starting tomorrow. Chopping and changing would not be good for start of season.
chaddyrovers Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Didn't think that Black would leave Rovers to join Bruce at Hull
The Rover of Finland Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 I think is Black is actually good at his job and also a good lad. Have I missed something? It´s also good for the team that the assistant won´t change every three months.
thenodrog Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Me too... didn't he fall through the mysterious wormhole at Ewood which has left him sitting in a distant treatment room in a different dimension in a parallel universe next to Grella, Britt, Kerr and Dahlin?
Mercer Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Me too... didn't he fall through the mysterious wormhole at Ewood which has left him sitting in a distant treatment room in a different dimension in a parallel universe next to Grella, Britt, Kerr and Dahlin? Feckin hell, two blasts from the past in Britt & Kerr. Britt was a donkey with a bad back but we were so unlucky with Kerr. At £60,000 from Bury, a steal and I think he would have gone on to great things if it hadn't been for that knee (cruciate I think which would have been fixed in today's medical age).

It´s also good for the team that the assistant won´t change every three months. Me too, I was hoping that he would replace Kean as manager at some point last season. I remember him sticking up for Kean on a radio interview which annoyed me but he isn't exactly going to start badmouthing him on air.
Mattyblue Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Of course his pals are going to stick up for him, it is just the ridiculous 'he's a miracle worker' nonsense that riles me.
Commondore Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 I actually see this as bad news. Black may be a decent assistant, but he seems to add to Kean's naive attacking approach rather than complimenting it.

I do not think that performances improved when Black arrived and in case anyone has forgotton we lost our last 8 games of the season.
Salgado Is A Hero Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 I've made this exact point before but assistant managers don't have the greatest of influences. We were terrible under Clement and Ancelotti wanted him at PSG. Hendry is hardly an ideal appointment but his defensive knowledge might be of some use. At the very least maybe one day he'll tell Kean it's a good idea to close people down on the outside of the box if they look like they're going to shoot.
Rover_Shaun Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 I've made this exact point before but assistant managers don't have the greatest of influences. . I'm sure if he was still with us Mr Clough would disagree young man (peter taylor)
Salgado Is A Hero Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Generally speaking of course. And more in relation to us, was my point. 3 different assistant managers in one season and no real change in how we set up or any success we had. I believe we could have the best assistant manager in the business and we would be awful under Kean.
Kendalrover Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 If they had no use the post would not exist Someone has got to massage the manager's ego.
Salgado Is A Hero Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 If they had no use the post would not exist I didn't say they had no use I said they "didn't have the greatest of influence". Getting rid of Kean is what is vital......employing even a very decent assistant manager will not help us that significantly.

Used to bet every week on Jimmy Kerr as first Rovers scorer, great player - shame about the injury and even bigger shame that he never won won me a bean.
ross-shire rover Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 I remember Martin Britt's first game - he missed an open goal attempting to lob the keeper in front of the Blackburn End . Can't remember if the "Britt is sh**t" chants started then or the next home game. I see in Wikipedia he played 8 times for us...

Clitherover Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Eric Black being interviewed on talksport shortly if anyone's interested.
Clitherover Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Anyone catch the interview? What did he say? It never happened, I think they were having trouble getting hold of him.
