ChrisyG Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 He played well towards the end of last season, and scored a few corkers. Looked like a good player to me. Get him signed!

promoted2001 Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Good job Diouf isn't around anymore! Good hardworking player plus I share the same surname so might be biased
scotty_beam_me_up Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Would be a great signing. One of the best performances by an away player at Ewood last season. Has a bit of a reputation as a super sub at QPR but would surely shine in the Championship. He would improve us and that is all you can ask from any signing but I do agree with the fact we do have more pressing concerns in other areas of the squad. With N'zonzi off we are very light in centre mid.
Hughesy Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Am i the only one that thinks £3.5m is a bit much though? I was thinking the same. Decent player but too expensive. Perhaps £2.5m with £1m based on promotion in nxt 2 years is fair enough

BRFC1995 Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 3.5m would almost guarentee he's a starter Murphy has clearly signed to play As much as it grates pedersen is probably the 2nd highest earner so will play Best it seems is the new starting striker Dunn is venkys poster boy so out ranks Lowe Cox possibly as well Mackie........Dunn..........Murphy...........Pedersen .......................Best.........Cox............................... So the above is the midfield and attack only 5 subs in chumpionship though and we have a hell of a lot of attacking crap we won't shift.............he'd be an improvement which is'nt saying a lot but for the love of god sort the defence out how hard can it be to improve on Dann/Hanley/Orr/???whoever we have at leftback when martin goes?? not hard and not expensive

rovers_rob Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Andy Cryer is reporting that unofficial enquiries have been made about Mackie and we are prepared to offer him a package that would double what he is on now. Alan Nixon seems fairly confident about this one as well. I agree with comments about we are paying over the odds for players but we are a championship club so I guess we have to. I hope we can get this lad in he is a top pro who will give everything.
roversfan99 Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 You'd think a front 4 linking the know how and work rate of Best and Mackie with the flair and natural ability of Rochina and Vukcevic/Formica would be far too good at this level. Then you realise we won't play like that

He must be on a reasonable whack as well. Hasn't the Shebster also outlined that he will play as a second striker?
The Rover of Finland Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Dunn and Murphy would be a suicide. Dunny should be Murphy´s replacement. First choice only when Murphy gets some rest. We may have to watch Pedersen a lot again but Vukcevic must be given a fair chance.
Langwarrin Rover Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Quality player at this level, would be very happy with this signing.
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted July 18, 2012 Moderation Lead Posted July 18, 2012 It´s Nicko´s story. Maybe he thinks it´s £50M budget again. Mackie is definetely a very good player this level. Taking it with a pinch of salt then
roverandout Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 still don't know why people are getting excited about this guy, average at best, have a look on wikipedia and you will see his goalscoring record for a striker is awful. Still don't know what he can offer that we dont already have, why waste money on a non-goalscoring striker when there is a need for more defensive re-enforcement and to suggest a swap deal for hoillet is an insult, this guy is nowhere near hoillet's class. What right does kean have of wasting money from a player who sam worked hard to bring through and then get a visa on such a medicore run-of-the-mill forward? (provided that is that hoillet will join qpr)

Anyway, isn't he more of a right midfielder than a striker?
roverandout Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 i thought he was a striker, thats what it says on his bio
roverandout Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 not sure but still begs the question, havent we got enough players to fill right wing and up front than to waste good money on an average player?
Salgado Is A Hero Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Vukcevic is our only natural right winger and I've forgotten what he looks like.......so unless you want Goodwillie and Henley there again, Mackie would be a good signing. Like others have pointed out, he plays more on the wing which is why his goalscoring record isn't as good and he seems like a Yossi Benayoun/Maxi Rodriguez type player in that he doesn't play consistently yet seems to impress when he does.
Jamesw1982 Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 mackie possible makeweight in deal for hoillet payoff?
savage90 Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Better than losing him for nothing? Hoilett wants nothing more to do with us and Mackie is decent.
roverandout Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 we wont lose him for nothing if he joins qpr, we would get something like 3 or 4 million
patrickvalery Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 http://www.westlondonsport.com/paper-talk/mackie-to-be-offered-up-to-2m-a-year-to-join-blackburn Highest paid player in the Championship!! Christ on a bike! If that is true then we need our heads looking at. The bloke is a grafter, but there are better players to blow big money on.
RibbleValleyRover Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Link to the Mirror article about Mackie becoming the highest paid player in the Championship if he joins: http://www.mirror.co...hoilett-1150355 He's not that good...
