I honestly now don't believe rovers ever truly expected to sign Rhodes, Just another PR stunt, i bet we end up just getting another striker on loan, possibly Guidetti, but he could have better options(Def cant see him signing on a permanent).

Until they have a forward of Rhodes/Guidettis quality signed permanently on the books, i wont believe anything that is said about rovers transfer targets/offers, I think Kamy/Cryer are being used(by no fault of their own) as part of Agnew/Kean/Shebbys PR charge of making us believe things are on the up, When in reality below the surface nothing has really changed, only got worst if anything......

ie. Kean/Agnew have more power than ever, shebbys just a human shield, All our best players still want out(the ones that haven't left already), The players that have come in are mostly completely unproven(the Portuguese lads), Kean sycophants and has-been mercenaries(Murphy, Best, Gomes), but hey! we have had a great Pre-season!!!!!!!!!!.

I have to agree with most of the above post ...But if Huddersfield agree a fee with us (which I doubt very much ) I suspect Fulham , Stoke or poss West Ham will come in with the same bid , then down to the player ....Kean has to be removed , for me to believe things are changing at Rovers ..

Anyway not long now , before the season starts , personally I am fearful of another relegation ...

As others have said, am pretty sure this was largely a PR stunt to make it look like we were going for a big target. Whilst bids may have gone in I think Rovers were well aware they would be rejected.

And even if it wasn't a PR stunt this has still been carried out in a ######-poor professional manner. Every bid that went in seemed to be with the media within hours. Whether Kean was deliberately trying to unsettle the player or not I don't know, but it's another example of how unrecognisable the club is from the pre-Venky's era.

I agree entirely. But this is a result of the demands made by the current generation of fans. Not just at Rovers, but across every club in the land. Everyone expects to know what their club is doing in terms of transfers. Essentially most fans nowadays expect their club to play a real life game of Championship Manager. Every summer should yeild sweeping changes to the squad and sod the expense.

This is the real issue for me. There are very few Rovers fans who are hearing alarm bells at the sudden cash we're splashing out. Any that do are getting pelters for it. The majoritiy don't want to think about this because new signings = excitement and hope. I can't really argue against that theory because it is always good to see your club make new signings. But i am more than a tad suspicious at where this money has come from and more than a tad concerned that if it doesn't bring us promotion the club will be in some serious trouble.

But this question is harked on and on the loudest by the same people on here that were asking where the money from the Jones and Samba transfers has gone, it is a possible answer for them.

Thats as maybe. I know people get sick of hearing it. Perhaps this is the Samba and Jones cash. Perhaps not. Venky's have done nothing thus far which makes me want to give them the benefit of the doubt.

It seems pretty clear to me that the change in banking arrangements coincides with bigger spend on transfers. I won't apologise for worrying about that very real possibility. If Venky's are now borrowing against the club then every Rovers fan should worry because it is being spent by an idiot. This is a very strong league to get out of and, although i'm no fan of McCarthy / Warnock style football, the best way to get out of this league is through being better organised than everyone else. Quite simply, we aren't.

Spoton...the less transparent banking arrangements suggest they have something to hide.

I agree we are nowhere near as organised as you need to be to jump out of this league. It's a scrappy, tough, hard hitting and grueling league which requires the players to have spirit, heart and motivation and the managers to have motivational skills, be willing to play unattractive football to achieve results and to make logical decisions in the heat of the moment. Well as far as Kean goes the only thing he has is we play unattracvtive football but not intentionally like Big Sam or Roy Hodgson no because we have ann unorganised panicky bufoon in charge who couldnt motivate a fish to swim in water.

Said a few days ago, this was a "media" event by Rovers. If we really wanted him, given our current position, we would not be alerting the press and possibly invoking a bidding war. If you really want someone and think you have stolen a march on others, the last thing you do is start doing interviews about it.

Strikingly similar to last season where we couldn't spend the Kalinic money, which since seems to have disapeered.

Bob, I think Portugal is running out now, think we should move on to Greecian youngsters.

Been thinking this all along, a lower level Raul event

Murphy free agent, think he took the biggest wad of dosh. Best, Etuhu going nowhere, journeymen who think Christmas has come early with big, big 4 year contracts handed out.

First 'serious' negotiation and we come unstuck !

Is this your catchprase everytime rovers try to make a signing??

Also i didn't realise you had a pub named after you(see final scene) :tu:

Hi,

Unfortunately you have been lied too and sold down the swanney by your disreputable owners once more. Our local rag has run a story today that confirms the points I was making about our chairman, Dean Hoyle, not selling to a divisional rival. It even tempt him it would of had to have been silly money.

http://www.examiner.co.uk/huddersfield-town-fc/huddersfield-town-news/2012/08/11/huddersfield-town-reject-out-of-hand-another-2m-plus-offer-from-blackburn-rovers-for-jordan-rhodes-86081-31599237/

Alas it seems you were lied to about the figures of your bid. It seems it was 2 million plus some add-ons, which was seen as derisory. We reject 4 million from west Ham in January.

the key quotes from the article above:

"[Jordan Rhodes] ... is one of the hottest properties in football right now. Any successful offer would have to reflect that and be a record breaker, but I also understand Hoyle is fully determined not to sell Rhodes to a divisional rival."

"HUDDERSFIELD TOWN have rejected ‘out of hand’ another £2m-plus offer from Blackburn Rovers for Jordan Rhodes...

...Rovers’ previous offer of £2m, rising to a maximum of £4m based on appearances by the 40-goal frontman, was also regarded as derisory..."

It seems you all go spun a line again, much in the way the venkeys have done previously. The sooner your get these cowboys out of there the better, I only hope you still have a club after the destruction they will have created. From an outside point of view, nothing seems to have changed in your club which means you'll be heading for the same outcome, I think you will struggle once more this season and will have to battle relegation. As no matter how good some of your players are ( Danny Murphy), with such socking lack destructive leadership from the top, an organisation can never succeed

sorry for the harsh opinion, you have my sympathy though and good luck it getting those damn chicken pluckers out of your club.

If we are going to have a battle against relegation next year then you will be cut adrift a quick glance out the two respective squads would show that. If we were picking a team from the two squads BEN how many huddersfield town players Rhodes aside would get in the starting 11.

Whilst there's no doubt we have a far superior squad than Huddersfield, I reckon Kean would make a good job of getting the Barcelona squad relegated from the Championship.

I wouldn't take everything printed in the Examiner as gospel. They are likely to want to report the deal in the worse possible sense. Just as the Lancashire Telegraph will try to report it in far more favourable terms.

The truth is unlikely to be in either.

Hi,

I don;t want to take the thread off the topic of Jordan Rhodes however I realise that Huddersfield have players that you are not aware of but we are going to suprise many teams this year and my prediction is the we will be in fighting for or in the play offs come the end of the season. Ehy do I think this? because of the strength and togetherness of our team.

The spine if solid. Smithies ( I realise you;ve not heard of him but he is/was the England U21 keeper. I saw Joe Hart player for Shrewsbury at the age of 17 before his £600,000 move to Man city, Smithies is as good at the same age. Smithies is now 22 and will play for England in the future). Centevack, we've signed Lynch from Nottingham forest ( they rate him highly) to add to a good set of cetnrebacks we have. Centre mid we strengthed well ( this was our weakness last year), Southern from Blackpool ( tough tackling), Adam clayton, Leeds stand out box-to-box midfilder last year and olivier Norwood a young player form Manchester who nearly kept Coventry up by himself last year. Upfront genuine quality in Rhodes although could do with some other options.

Out wide we have pace and skill. Scannell looks an excellent signing from crystal palace we also have Danny ward was was very good past year fro us. We also have to excellent attacking and pacy fullbacks.

Over all, it is a young hungry, well balanced and together squad. Things are very bright for us at the moment and I look forward to a really good season.

I agree with your point. Town tend not to release figures on transfer activity out of respect to everyone involved. My reading of this story is HTAFC wanted to have it put into the open what the figure bid was to end the speculations and the fabrications from Blackburn.

I agree that press in general need to be treated with a pinch of salt. This one though being specific with figures indicates that it has been released with the full knowledge of those at the top of HTAFC.

Town are very tight on releasing information with regards to transfers and most of the signings this summer, nobody has had an forward information till the actual day of the announcement.

Although I never really thought this deal would happen, there is nothing in that Examiner story that doesn't come from the journo's hand. It's all "I understand that" and "sources tell me". Which is exactly what the Telegraph was doing with the other side of the coin.

What would have been more fun would have been Booth saying something like "I understand that the figures quoted elsewhere in the region of £5m+ are not wide of the mark, but Town have rejected these as a sign of their ambition."

Obviously he'd never report that as it would put of any potential buyers in the future, and would also lead to the owners looking silly if they did end up selling for £4m.
