ada2020
How many people think we won't have a striker in for our game against Ipswich? It'll be quicker and easier to count the ones that think we will.
Mercer
A number of things strike me in our quest for a striker. Firstly, our negotiations are, IMO, p1ss poor. Take Rhodes, numbers bandied about in wages' terms would be £35k per week versus his existing £6k per week. When this seems a one horse race, no other club willing to pay the fee, why the feck is £35k per week on the table ? Don't believe he wouldn't come for substantially less than that. Secondly, when folk are getting excited about Billy Sharp, it just shows how far our club has fallen. IMO, a journeyman at best. Make no mistake, as a club, I think we are struggling big time, from top to bottom.

Jeru tha Damaja
Sharp is 26 and has had 4 clubs since he was 19. Most of the experience he had with those clubs was in the division we're about to play in and his record is about a goal every two games. That makes him a pretty good signing in our current situation. Unfortunately I don't think we're even looking at him as an option, so it's a pointless discussion. Might be wrong here but think you might find that some two thirds, or more, of his goals / appearances have been at a level below Championship. Make no mistake, as a club, I think we are struggling big time, from top to bottom. Billy Sharp is a really good striker, that's why we're getting excited.....our club did fall when we were relegated....perspective is now needed on who would come here.....you're obviously against paying high wages yet are protesting about signings/potential signings not being good enough.......feel free to name some 20+ goals a season strikers who you would be happy with and would want low wages.......Billy Sharp's recent goal record speaks for itself.....the fact he has played for 5 different clubs, including loans, in his career is largely irrelevant. As for your last point, wouldn't it be easier to have sentences like that as a signature rather than saying them at the end of every single post. I know, just to think some of our fans were getting excited about Ronaldinho when Venky's took over. Surely nobody thought we were actually gonna sign him? I thought we were all embarrassed when they mentioned him and Kaka?

dwayne cage
No I assure you there was certainly some fans. Believe it or not. Ridiculous I know. I am not getting excited about Billy Sharp merely saying he'd be a good purchase. I won't get excited until it says we are officially in talks with someone. Mercer
Better than anything we have at the moment now anyway. I cast my mind back about 40 years when Rovers' transfer kitty was then pretty sparse. We were playing Plymouth and they had a c/f by the name of Jim Hinch. He was every inch, no pun intended, a journeyman and, in reality, not much better, if at all, than anything we already had, however, he was seen by some as a "he'll do" or "bit better than what we already have". Thankfully, we didn't sign him. Settle for mediocrity and that's where you head. I think that you would find any hal;f decent manager able to come up with better talent than most of what's been mentioned if armed with a £14million fee and wages budget (over 4 years) for a new striker. Rhodes, Cox, Sharp etc, smack of, IMO, lack of judgement, knowledge et al.
dwayne cage
Personally I am in camp Guidetti but for some reason it's seems we are still prodding Huddersfield "Come on, sell. I'll be your friend, please?" I think Guidetti will go somewhere in the PL though if he's fit. And we will settle for someone very average-poor on deadline day. If we even get anyone. Thankfully, we didn't sign him. Settle for mediocrity and that's where you head. A confusing anecdote. I thought you were going to point to an example of when we signed somebody who fits the mould of the decent but not great who signed for us and didn't do us well (something which would be quite easy to find). Instead you've speculated that we were right not signing somebody 40 years ago, when you have no evidence that he wouldn't have done a good job. You also state that many felt he was "a bit better than what we already have". Whilst I get your point about planning for the future and agree with it, sometimes you have to make those signings to keep things ticking over when the wonderkids aren't coming. Of all the examples you could have used that was frankly bizarre.
Jeru tha Damaja
Might be wrong here but think you might find that some two thirds, or more, of his goals / appearances have been at a level below Championship. The last time he kicked a ball in League One was 2007. He was a flop at Sheff Utd (51 league apps, 8 goals), but more recently he scored 40 in 82 games for Doncaster and 9 in 15 for Southampton, all in the Championship. So in the past three years he has scored 49 in 97 games.

adsfortheblues
I think personally there isn't many good strikers around in the championship these days and fringe players from premiership sides will be reluctant to drop down, therefore it will be deadline day when we may sign someone, because that is the time when these fringe players think to themselves "oh go on then, at least I'll get some game time"

diziet2
you've got a chance to see him in action tomorrow night as he is starting for the full Scotland team. The player i think he most resembles is a younger version of Ted Sheringham or an inferior version of Denis Berkamp ( although many think I am a bit mad to think that). He has an uncanny knack of scoring goals. His movement in the box ( just a little that makes the space to score) is akin to Ted Sheringham. His first touch is good and his hold up play and link play are very good have developed every year. He has good pace over a few yards to make the scoring opportunity , over a longer decent he has enough pace to hold off a defender. However he is not a messi type player, he is Jermaine Defoe type player either. it is hard to pigeon hole him, but what he does do is score goals. Take a look and see what you think tomorrow Regards Ben

Stuart
I really doubt that. The biggest lie to do with transfers i think he's said is either "We have a war chest to spend" Or "The bid to sign Ronaldinho was a serious one" AC Milan then confirmed Blavkburn hadnt even enquired about the player! This "Rhodes transfer saga" seems so much like the Ronaldinho one. Lots of talk and no real action. This piece in The Telegraph, from early 2011, had a lot of interesting (and damning) quotes in light of everything that has happened since... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/blackburn-rovers/8239338/Blackburn-Rovers-courtship-of-AC-Milans-Brazilian-Ronaldinho-descends-into-farce.html
