If that's true Ben, then why haven't Rhodes come out and pledged his future to Huddersfield?

Because a Premier League team could make a move any time. So he'd be risking looking rather silly. Or, because if he pledges his future, Huddersfield will feel less inclined to renegotiate his contract generously.

Am sorry if Adebayor is worth 5m then Rhodes is no bloody way near worth over 6m

But that's just like saying if Berbatov is worth 30 miilion or even if Henderson is worth 20 then surely Rhodes is worth at least 10.......he should be worth 5 but they're in no position to sell unless he really wants to leave so why not drive the price up a bit.....do you really think Santa Cruz was worth 18.

Negotiation 101: BATNA

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Best_alternative_to_a_negotiated_agreement

City wanted Ade off the payroll, Spurs wanted to take him, and the player wanted to go. Frankly 5 million seems to quite high. City must have known AVBs alternative would have cost him at least 10 million and so half that was the magic number that got everyone to say yes.

Right now Huddersfield are pretty sure that we don't really have an alternative of similar ability that is willing to join the club. Plus they simply don't want to sell.

Their alternative is that they hold on to the player, he gets them a decent amount of goals this season and they sell him next summer.

And so, inevitably the price will go up until the gulf between our offer and their BATNA is sufficiently tempting.

Simple as that.

Because they see it as an investment, pay £6m now, IF he does well then he will be worth double at least

It's a big IF though Hughesy and a huge amount of money for someone untried at this level. I well remember us paying over the odds for John O'Mara, well before your time, who had scored goals for fun for Brentford and was actually being chased by First Division clubs. As we were a Third Division club - the same as Brentford - it was seen as quite a catch. Two years later he left on a free and had proved a complete flop.

Quote from Huddersfield forum:

"Everytime i've seen him come up against better centre halves he has looked very average. Barely a kick tonight and just as in the play off final, his play outside the box was rough with a number of dodgy touches/lay offs and his shying away from headers was criminal but the crowd let him off because of who he is.

Always going to score goals but I'd be tempted to cash in while we can if we can get anywhere close to £6mill. Like you say, would be a cracking deal when you consider players like Cox, who was a real handful all night, are going for half of that"

How ironic is it that Kean had Cox lined up, while Shebby decided to go for Rhodes? Also a bit worrying to break the bank for a player who is in the poacher category. If we get back in the PL a striker needs to be either powerful or have pace just to be able to compete.

Just a PR-stunt?

Strange PR considering it is only the LET who is mentioning it.

Not going up for headers = not wanting to get injured before a big move.

Blackburn Rovers have enquired about taking Stoke's Kenwyne Jones on a season-long loan. Aston Villa also interested. #AVFC

He'd be a good option, not the best finisher but a pacey, handful.

i think Jones would have a field day in this division with a clever strike partner , and wide men with good delivery he could easily get 25-30 goals

Just having a browse on the Huddersfield forum to see what they had to say about Rhodes only to find the latest post being this:

"Don't want to fan the incredulous flame but I was just in a retail park down Leeds Road, in which I clocked a (will remain unnamed) 1st team Town player and his girlfriend.

One of the annoying people who worked there (no, you can't help me, and it becomes very tedious by the time I've been asked by the 4th member of staff...in the unlikely event I want assistance I'll ask for it...I only come in your shop so I can have a close look at something ahead of buying online)....had a brief conversation with said footballer, who escaped with a sheepish "I'm supposed to be with my girlfriend" line...

The annoying shop person then said something to another annoying shop person, who loudly replied, "what do you mean he wants to go to Blackburn".

So either the footballer said Rhodes wants to go to Blackburn, or loud annoying assistant was trying to grasp what annoying assistant had wanted to ask footballer."

Just thought I would post it up. Could be a joke/wind up/lie but don't see why a Huddersfield fan would post it if so. Believe it or don't believe it - whatever takes your fancy, but thought some might find it interesting. I'm still one of those clinging to the hope Rhodes might join (yep, more fool me for letting Rovers get my hopes up!) but this saga is just getting silly now. Hopefully today's supposed meeting puts an end to this one way or another.
