sharpysharps Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 I will be AMAZED even more so if rovers land lambert. Complete waste of time and effort trying for him if you ask me, he's just made it to the prem he ain't going anywhere! Luke Moore I would take though for a steady player I suppose. Still give my own backing to Chris Wood from WBA.

Ricky Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 Maybe the discussions with Southampton might end up leading us down the Billy Sharp route.
Mercer Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 No chance of Lambert leaving Saints and he's hardly the future, just adding to our new collection of 30+ players. Moore is a journeyman and is he really any better than Goodwillie at this level ? There are bargains to be had, as we saw today with Vardy, snaffled from Fleetwood, right under our noses. Haven't the foggiest how Rovers' scouting works these days other than it doesn't seem to work too well. Slew, Modeste, Elinho, Goodwillie - ffs, can someone tell me what the hell we are trying to do ? Can see us signing two more nobodies just as Friday's clock strikes midnight.
roverandout Posted August 25, 2012 Author Posted August 25, 2012 more than likely, luke moore is a second rate league 1 player, how will he improve on what we already have apart from taking more wages

Agree on Vardy, a trick was missed there.
Gumbi Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 So we missed trick by not going for a player who previously played for a Conference team and scored 31 goals, but shouldn't have been going for a player who had scored 30 goals in League One because he wasn't proven in the Championship.
Backroom Tom Posted August 25, 2012 Backroom Posted August 25, 2012 Imagine the reaction if we did go for a conference player

Vardy would probably have cost about 4 million over 4 years versus 14 million for Rhodes and from what I've seen, I know who is the better player now and who will get better in the future. Imagine the reaction if we did go for a conference player Could argue better suited to our game than, IMO, 3rd rate Portugese and 10th Division French league !!!!
bob fleming Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 Haven't the foggiest how Rovers' scouting works these days other than it doesn't seem to work too well. They sacked four scouts last week - so that won't help. Still, who needs scouts when you've got Facebook, a bloke in Portugal, Shebby, keano and a bottomless pit of money?
booth Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 According to andy cryer we now want Ricky lambert and Luke moore No chance Southampton will sell lambert though and Moore is steady but unspectacular Why the F would we want Luke Moore?
booth Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 I don't see the point in signing any striker until we've got some wide players with pace. We're not creating anything for an expensive striker to score with, it would be a compete waste of money. Should get Tom Ince, but I'm not sure if his Dad would be too happy about a move here
Kelbo Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Imagine the reaction if we did go for a conference player We once did, or even a lower level, Hargreaves from Stanley, plus Mckinnon from Sutton Utd!!

How much have you seen of them both to make that judgement? I assume from your statement that you believe the 25yr old Jamie Vardy will improve more than the 22yr old Jordan Rhodes. Why? Personally I don't think either player has peaked yet. Jamie Vardy is clearly a late developer & I think he'll go on to be a very good player, but to think JR won't get any better seems very odd.

There is a fine line here, Vardy is a late developer and I do feel he is a better leader of the line than Rhodes (taking his physical presence and hold up play) but, as a goalscorer, have to wait and see, Rhodes at 22 has been hitting 22 goals plus for three consecutive seasons so is progressing, will Vardy get found out or will he progress? We cant say, likewise we cant say if Rhodes will step up to the plate in the Championship until he's done at least a season there!
chaddyrovers Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Sacked Bob ? Or cost cutting exercise ? or left to join Kevin Cruickshank where he is chief Scout now under Hughes? was assistant chief scout at rovers???
Kelbo Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Imagine the reaction if we did go for a conference player Further to my earlier post on conference players, we had a brilliant signing from Stafford Rangers, Keeper Jim Arnold!!

JR reminds me of Duncan Shearer who was always a lower league plunderer of goals and struggled anywhere above the old Division Three. JR lacks real pace hence no real interest from PL. Further to my earlier post on conference players, we had a brilliant signing from Stafford Rangers, Keeper Jim Arnold!! A terrific signing and keeper ! A guy called Tony Parkes signed from Buxton didn't too bad for Rovers either ! They sacked four scouts last week - so that won't help. Still, who needs scouts when you've got Facebook, a bloke in Portugal, Shebby, keano and a bottomless pit of money? Not just scouts as I understand it ! A lot seems to be going on that has not been reported in LT or elsewhere.
dwayne cage Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Shebby just been interviewed on SSN via telephone. Amongst many things he said the Jordan Rhodes deal is dead. He said "We have to respect Huddersfields wishes not to sell to us." He also said we aim to conclude all transfers in the next 48 hours
chaddyrovers Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Bloody hell, expect 3 signings then. 2 strikers and a left back
roversfan99 Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 I wouldn't expect more than 1 striker in. Maybe we will replace Goodwillie if he goes. The same with Martin Olsson or Dann.
davulsukur Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Sorry, did you say Goodwillie goes? Who the F is buying him?
roversfan99 Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Exactly, that's why I don't see more than 1 striker.
davulsukur Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 but what made you say if goodwillie goes? Someone must be linked?
