Goodwillie looked totally out of shape in pre-season and very lazy, he scored 2 goals I think but he didn't impress v Stanley or Rochdale.

However he did look fairly hungry and sharp on Saturday, he made a few runs to stretch the defence that went un-noticed.

Edinho was a joke I agree, he should be in the reserves for a good while yet.

I don't think we'll see anyone else in.

Edinho played half a game so is now a seasoned first-teamer.

48 hours will pass and we'll declare it a successful window and keep our powder dry.

Much like the Arsenal, Liverpool and United results he's been dining on for months, this start to the season could be our undoing. "We don't need anyone else".

There are people on here who are already declaring our squad is in good shape. I guess we will soon find out.

Of course, our squad strength in depth, or rather lack of, is a moot point with the imposter in charge.

I think we will see some (1 or 2) new faces through the door before the window shuts. I wouldn't get my hopes up they'll be exciting signings though.

I thought Goody came to life at the end of the Leicester game. If he can play like he did in the last 15mins of that game more often we will be ok. Doubt he can though.

I'd go as far as to say we shouldn't have signed him.

From what I saw, he offered nothing.

JR reminds me of Duncan Shearer who was always a lower league plunderer of goals and struggled anywhere above the old Division Three.

JR lacks real pace hence no real interest from PL.

I'm afraid it's probably my age - I can only vaguely remember Duncan Shearer (He was playing for us when I first started watching HTFC - I was 8 years old) but my memory of Duncan Shearer shows a very different player to Jordan Rhodes. I remember him doing a bloody good job for us at this same level, plus he knocked a fair few in for Swindon at this level too (he was in the side that would have won promotion to the 1st division - now premier league - but demoted for financial irregularities).

I could be wrong but wasn't he getting on a bit by the time he signed for Blackburn?

Either way, pace is useful but it isn't everything. Alan Shearer wasn't that quick after his injuries, Teddy Sheringham was always slow. Closer to present day, how many of Edin Dzeko's goals rely on pace vs clever movement off the ball & positional sense?

All a moot point, of course - Steve Kean-Out has now admitted defeat in trying to sign JR. Like I said, I'd be surprised if he isn't playing in the Premier League by February, and I'd be equally surprised if he doesn't continue to improve. He's a far better player now than he was 12 months ago (& he was no slouch then).

Pace is no everything at the top level. Sheringham, Zola and Cantona were not famous for their speed but they did OK. Dzeko is a donkey though.Speed of thought and the ability to find space to shoot might be what Rhodes is all about.

I doubt we ever had a chance to sign him, as I think Huddersfield would fend us off and wait for a big offer from an established Premier league club.

Dont understand why it was closed in the first place, with the threads like "mystery striker" etc still open.

Just because one of the mods decided they had enough of talking about Jordan Rhodes?!!!!??

Yep pretty much

Seemed a good call at the time. Huddersfield Ben will be back recommending Lee Barnard again.

Rhodes is a poacher who relies almost exclusively on service.....so people are questioning whether he could be effective for us.......but the first point could probably be applied to Yakubu.....we have no strikers currently who can hold the ball up sufficiently enough to bring others into play, something Yakubu excelled at.....Rhodes could do this meaning our others players can get further up the pitch, mainly Rochina, Formica, Dunn, Kazim, Gomes or whoever is playing in the hole.....this will help provide him with better service than hopeful passes from a distance to try and make something out of nothing.

If we continue playing Lowe and Pedersen on the flanks then we won't get many crosses into the box....maybe some from the full backs but not enough for Rhodes......but hopefully at least 1 is dropped if we sign Rhodes and Kazim and Vukcevic can be played on the wings.....I doubt we'll see Simon again though so bring in Kazim for Lowe......then we can have wingers who can beat a full back and get crosses in the box......Ribeiro could even do that for us, as well as Marcus Olsson who has maybe found his level......Pedersen, although wasteful, still has ability and his cross against Norwich for Formica last season proved he can still cross the ball well from open play, even if it's a rare occurrence.

I'm not happy with our current squad until we sign a left back and another striker to replace Best......but we now know, if we didn't already, that we won't get punished as much in this league for mistakes.....and Etuhu has been our most important transfer this year so along with Murphy, he should provide better protection for the back 4, which currently includes the best CB to play in this league for I imagine quite a while.....although Woodgate is quality and Coloccini was really good in this league.......a natural left back will also be important for us as we haven't had one of them in a while.

I'm not saying we're going to continue picking up as many points as we have done.....but if we score enough goals and Robinson continues playing like he has then we have an outside, very small but still significant chance, of making the playoffs.....providing we get Rhodes, or another goalscorer, and a left back......the players don't get much help from Kean but it is their first time playing together so, to use Murphy as an example......it will take him a while to work out which players like making certain runs, where they like the ball being played to (to feet, on the chest etc) and things like that....players need game-time together to develop an understanding....but I know players will continue to be played out of position and we'll come about 15th.
